If I lose 8 LBS a month I can reach my Goal Weight in Mid-July! I'm half-way to my Goal Weight when I started this thread! I'm down 60 LBS from my highest weight when I started this challenge! Well, I fell ridiculously short of my goal to hit 135 lbs last year...it was a much harder year of ups-and-downs on the scale than 2017 had been. I suppose that's to be expected as you get closer to healthy weights, but I still had a lot of regains that weren't necessary throughout this last year, so I'm hoping that I can make 2019 a more stable year overall. I'm also bringing up my "Ultimate Goal Weight" of 135 lbs up a smidge to 140 lbs, which would still rest me squarely in the middle of a healthy range -- just to account for some wiggle room. That's a goal of about 42.4 lbs for the year, so we'll see if I can make it happen or how close I can get! Best of luck in 2019, everyone! :wave:

I have never thought of making a yearly goal...when I took how much I wanted to be by the end of the year and divided it by 12, I was so surprised. My goal is 175 by the end of the year. That is ONLY 5lbs a month, which I feel is completely do-able!

Is it to late to join in? I am an old girl and so need to do this for my health..... all though if I could be hot for my age would be a great extra. My goal is to reach 160 this year. I am sure I will look like a sharpa (that wrinkled dog)... but..... praying to be a healthier one. High blood pressure..... pre diabetic..... hurt all over... and who knows what else I am not aware of...... I am 65 and been fighting this weight forever....

I finally met my 2018 goal weight, just 3 weeks late. 199.4 this morning. 3 weeks late is pretty good. I'll take it.

Hoping to have another successful month in February. I've been staying about the same the last few days. Daily weigh-ins are starting to get to my head, so in February, I think I'm just going to stick with this one and the winter to spring weigh ins. I also took my measurements last night. I have lost over 6 inches throughout my body since last Tuesday! So, that makes me feel a ton better. So happy to see some results and know that my hard work is paying off. I lost a total of 6.8 this month, which was better than I've been doing, so I'm happy with that. My goal only needs me to average about 3 pounds a month, but I expect to slow down at some point, so a few bigger months early on will help with that. I'll take it.

I was quite concerned today that I was going to bump back up over 200, so while I was not happy to see the increase, I was glad to still see a 1. I've said before that when I'm sick, I either have no appetite at all and don't eat ANYTHING or else I go crazy and eat EVERYTHING. Well, hubby has had the flu for 2 days and now I'm coming down with it and I think that is why I'm eating EVERYTHING right now. I overate at dinner Friday and then Yesterday, I just couldn't curb my eating. I had 2 handfuls of peanuts, an entire bag of popcorn, about 5 times as much chocolate as I normally have, pasta, (all that on top of my 3 meals) and absolutely no fruits or vegetables the entire day. And I was still looking for more. I did manage to talk myself out of the frozen fudge bar I wanted at bedtime. WOW! First time I've gone over my TDEE in a long time, and I still wanted more. They do say "feed a fever" so maybe eating more is a good thing, but blah!

Lacerta, I feel your pain on the snacking! I was that way last week, but I am pretty sure it was because my TOM was coming. How do you feel now? Do you know for sure that you have the flu? It's starting up around my area. One of my friends said they saw 109 patients today in their little pediatric office! Hopefully, you will get through it quickly and painlessly.

sgregg: I haven't fully come down with it. My hubby had it for sure. So far, I've had a few days of feeling "off", but I've been fighting it off. I'm crediting my healthy eating for boosting my immune system.

I had a really good fall...was down to 167 which is about 3- to 5- lbs from "goal".
But, I indulged A LOT over the Holidays....and seem to not be able to reduce with any ease. I am back up to 175.0 lbs. So, officially I have 10 lbs to lose. Again. I swear I have lost these 10 lbs (and gained them, again...) about 4,582 times at this point. |
My goal weight for 2019 is 150 lbs. I was on vacation for most of January so I didn't get started until the end of the month. I was 215 :o when I got back from vacation but most of it was water weight. I need to lose around 6 lbs a month to get to my goal by the end of the year. I think that sounds doable. :)

November was finishing off the left over Halloween candy and then Thanksgiving. The entire month of December was Christmas cookies and candy. I didn't weigh myself again until the beginning of January and I had gained almost 20 pounds and was back where I started at the beginning of 2019. It's crazy how it took almost the entire year of 2019 to lose 20 lbs (while spending every waking hour working on sticking to a diet and exercising), yet it took only a few short months to gain it all back. I basically maintained my weight for February. I gained + .2 LBS. I started lifitng weights again after over 2 months and started doing a walking dvd. Good Luck, Everyone!

I've now been in this new lifestyle for a full year (tomorrow). It was a good year overall, lost over 70 pounds, which is awesome, but it didn't end very well. This week marks the first time in that year that I've had two up weeks in a row. Hopefully, that means this next week, I will have a significant whoosh, because I've been as much as nearly 4 pounds lower than today's weigh in. I've had a couple of meals that weren't what I planned for the day, because of Jury Duty this week, but I never went over on calories, so I have to assume this is mostly just water. Hoping for a 4 pound loss this week to get back to my low (which was this week, so I'm possibly retaining 4+ pounds of water)

I've been in a massive plateau, and lost a whopping 0.6 pounds in March. But that is always better than gaining. |
Thankyou Lacerta! Plateaus are so frustrating! I also struggled with my loss slowing down and I was about to lose my mind, I ended up missing my goal for the month and getting behind by 2 lbs for my trip goal. I did find this article though (now IDK how factual it might be, but I thought I'd share anyway) and it's helped me a lot in terms of how I see my progress. Thanks Daydreamer. I've actually read that article before (I'm big on research, so I swear I've read every article on the internet this year about weight loss). I'm not sure whether I agree with the explanation of the why, because from everything I have read, there is no scientific proof that our cells replace fat with water and then whoosh it away later, but while I may not agree with the explanation, I absolutely agree that the phenomenon is real. And my whoosh has finally arrived. I'm down almost 4 pounds in 4 days, so my March fat loss is finally showing on the scale, which is fabulous. It happened last time I plateaued also. The week I broke the plateau, I had one of my best weeks ever and lost over 4 pounds. I'm hoping to do that again this week.
Looking back at my history, even with the 6 week plateau, I've still averaged about a pound a week since the beginning of the year. There have been just over 13 weeks this year so far and I'm now down just over 13 pounds. So that I why I can handle the plateaus when they hit. I know I'm still doing the work and making progress, even if it isn't showing up right now. |
I'm pretty much back to my SW for this challenge. I started at 202 LBS. I weighed in at 201.8 on Friday April 26, 2019. I need to get remotivated and start losing again. I can still reach my GW this year. Good Luck, Everyone!

Halfway point today.
So my goal for 2019 is 37.8 pounds. Half of that is 18.9. So far this year, I'm down 21.8. So very slightly ahead of schedule. I've had some pretty slow months, and some better months, but overall, I'm doing about what I'd hoped to average. I have 16 pounds to go in the next 6 months to get to my goal for the year, and around 35-40ish to get to my ultimate goal weight. I've been failing on the weight lifting front, though. I need to try to step that up the second half the year. Hope everyone is having a good year so far. And if not, today is a new day. |

How is Everyone doing? I finally got serious about losing weight and had my best month this year in July. I lost 7.4 LBS. I had wanted to lose 11 LBS. But I'm finally back to counting calories and working out more. I do strength training and cardio.

Better late than never :D I didn't start weighing myself again until May of this year. I know last year (thanks to a doctor's visit) I was 285lbs at my highest.

I'm picking away slow and steady (ish). To be on schedule to reach my end of year goal, I need to be under 176 by end of September. I'm at 176.8 today. So I should make it. Then I just need a little less than 3 pounds a month to make it. If I don't get there, I'll be close. I'm not fast, but I still haven't had a month with a gain (lots of weeks with a gain, but no months overall), so I feel like I'm doing well.

Lacerta, how hard is that for you to control yourself against the fridge and endless appetite?..

I'm not depriving myself of anything, if that's what you are asking. But my fridge and pantry are stocked with a lot healthier alternatives now, so if I'm feeling snacky, I choose healthier things to snack on. Some days, I'm especially peckish, and I end up eating more than intended, but because they are healthy options, I basically end up maintaining during those times, rather than gaining. And that's ok. I don't really have an "endless appetite", I'm hungry at mealtimes and so I eat, and sometimes I'm a little hungry between meals, so I have a snack (or don't and just wait for the next meal). Your comment sort of makes it sound like I'm depriving myself of everything good and constantly having to fight impulses. That just isn't the case. I had some chocolate already this morning. You can still have small amounts of "bad" things that taste good as part of a healthy way of eating. In fact, that's the only way I think I could ever succeed in the long run.
I will say that hormones are a big part of that. I have PCOS and hypothyroid and before I got those figured out, it was much harder to fight the cravings, which were constant and overwhelming. But once I got the wacky hormones treated and balanced, it got a lot easier. |
