Rie - Not toasting a sub is an outrage! I must've forgotten about that part. That's beautiful that your mom found inspiration in you! I hope she continues working at it. :) My mom also struggled with her weight for the majority of her life. My dad's always been into staying fit. Ironically, he developed diabetes but my mom didn't. Thanks, I hope the weigh in is better too! :crossed: I'm bracing myself for the worst though. I've been eating more carbs than usual the past couple of weeks, and I feel a little squishy. My Labor Day is being spent almost entirely on hw, but I hope others have a more fun day! :D

somedaysunny 09-03-2018 05:52 PM

Ill be weighing in tomorrow! I went camping over the weekend and just got back today and I left my scale at home; I always weigh first thing in the morning before I eat to get the most accurate weight and I didn't think to take my scale with me! lol

somedaysunny 09-04-2018 05:44 AM

So I think after weighing in this morning I need to change my goal weight for the challenge, I was a little too conservative the first time. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to change it to though, I know my weight loss, doing it the way I'm doing, will eventually slow down but I don't know when. Has anyone else done this? I'm just cutting my calories back, I'm so picky I basically eat nothing healthy but I'm trying to start.

Riestrella 09-04-2018 10:49 AM

Ouch, I'm one pound up this morning after a terrible Labor Day! I had all these plans to be productive - I even listed them in my last post. Yet, I didn't do any of them!! No run, no chores...the only thing I did do was go to the godparents-in-law's place for dinner and had a LOT of meat. Pulled pork, chicken, sausage, pie and ice cream. I felt like I did ok with taking small portions and drinking water but the damage has been done from this unhealthy long weekend! All I did yesterday was pretty much nap and play video games, oof. Not a great thing to admit and as much as I don't like making excuses I can only try to shift some of the blame to my incoming period. I get very lethargic and I crave a lot of random foods. If I didn't have such a social weekend I think I would've been ok, but hey ho, not every weekend will be like that one!

So this challenge isn't starting quite like I hoped, but I need to be careful not to get bummed out and to just keep on trucking!! No point in holding myself to a particular weight schedule. I did have a goal to be 179 lbs by next week, but I don't think I'm going to reach that goal. 6 lbs in 1 week?! Yeah...not happening!! I have another mini-goal lined up, 160's by December. I think I can do it if I really push!

Chunk - I know right?! Cold subs should not be a thing  I actually went home with the sub, took all the veggies off and toasted it under the broiler for a little bit! The problem that my Mum faces is she always puts too much pressure on herself to do these huge races. She used to be quite the runner, always running 10K's, Half Marathon's, she even did the London Marathon a few times. However she slowly let herself go and crept up to being obese, but still has the mentality that she can run all these races. For example, she entered an Iron Man and said she would train for it on X date if she had reached X weight, otherwise she'd get a refund. She then makes huge workout schedules and gets all psyched up, then ultimately caves under the pressure and then ends up cancelling the race. I keep telling her to go back to basics, to enter a 10K again or even just a short Triathlon if she likes them, but she keeps going for these huge races!!
Sorry to hear your Dad got diabetes despite his healthy routine! Sounds like my boyfriends Dad, he's super in shape but is at-risk of developing diabetes so he has to be careful with his food.

sunny - How was your camping trip? I would say I used to average at a pound a week, but these days it's a LOT slower! I think now I'm older it's getting harder to lose weight, especially since now I have a completely sedentary job whereas before I think what contributed to my weight loss was I was always on my feet and walking around for my job.

somedaysunny 09-04-2018 04:46 PM

Rie: it was good! We got to go out on the boat twice basically all day the first time lol I had 2 smores because I just couldn't resist but still managed to lose weight! I think because I'm so heavy is why I'm doing so good so far but i'll ride it out as long as I can lol

Chunkahlunkah 09-05-2018 08:29 AM

Yesterday I put on a pair of jeans that had been snug 1 month ago. They fit great. That's when I started to hope that my weigh-in today would show a loss from the last time I weighed, and it did! I'm down 2 pounds. :D That's not a great deal in nearly a month, but that's about the rate at which I lose, so I'm happy! It probably would've been 3 pounds, if not for the buffet, extra carbs, and wine. But I'll take 2! :)

Rie- Wow, that's so cool that your mom ran the London Marathon! As a former athlete, I can imagine her gain must be so frustrating and leave her feeling not like herself. I hope she listens and goes easier on herself by picking more accessible goals for this time. Your gain yesterday is probably almost all food weight from the meal (which sounded yum). I hope it falls away soon! Are you starting the new round of Insanity soon, or did that already begin?

somedaysunny - I wouldn't turn down a couple smores either when camping! Congrats on the loss! :carrot:

Riestrella 09-05-2018 11:04 AM

Yesterday was kind of a success?? I went on my first run since March and oh boy did it suck. I thought perhaps Insanity would have helped, so I was admittedly quite downtrodden and frustrated that my run was terrible. I had to walk for a huge portion of it and I found myself lacking energy. I think my strength was ok, my legs definitely felt stronger, but I think my stamina has a long way to go. I was slower than I was earlier in the year, which really did surprise me because again I thought Insanity would've made a difference with all the strength training! I think I'm also feeling a bit emotional about it since my period is around the corner.

I'm doing my best to hang in there and not get upset, any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!! I also had a realization last night that I've been at this for 2 months now and I've barely made any progress. I've lost around 3 lbs which isn't really a whole lot for 8 weeks of work. I think it's time to really knuckle down on what I'm eating and maybe even try to workout 4 times a week instead of 3. Maybe Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday? However I need to not lean on my exercise as a method of weight loss, because I do struggle with eating the right food.

Despite my frustrations I did weigh in this morning at an all new low for this week, 184.6 lbs bringing my average for the week to 185 lbs. Just gotta keep on trucking!

Chunk - Wow, congrats on 2 lbs down and fitting into those jeans!! A lot of my clothes are a bit snug now, I basically live in elastic workout pants  Yeah, my Mum gets really frustrated at herself about the weight gain, she's been saying for the last 20+ years she'll one day "look like Madonna" because she's her favorite singer!! Unfortunately she never listens to me when I try to suggest doing something smaller. I would love to get to my goal weight, go see her in person and then maybe she'll listen to me!! What sort of stuff did you used to do when you considered yourself your most athletic?
I'm currently doing Insanity Max 30, just started Month 2 of it!

curvynotlumpy 09-05-2018 01:52 PM

Good morning :coffee2:

Still at 216. Labor Day was both good and bad. Good in that I got some much needed rest. Bad in that I didn't do a thing to further my exercise and eating goals. Nothing to do but carry on, right

Rie, I'm a firm believer that no exercise is ever wasted and if you were doing Insanity I'm thinking you gained a lot of muscle strength that will serve you well as your running improves. Sure it's a letdown but make it a momentary one. Now you have your baseline and can set goals where you want to go from here. I'm :cheer2: for you. We all are !

Chunk: I'm going to vicariously live through you for a bit if you don't mind ;). I can't remember the last time I had the great feeling of having clothes that are snug and/or don't fit me, fit. In fact I have so many clothes that don't fit or fit awkwardly that it :censored: maddening! :bravo: to you, sweets. Take pride in all your hard work and efforts.

Somedaysunny: Why not readjust goal? You may surprise yourself :dancer:.

Wishing all a great day!

Chunkahlunkah 09-05-2018 02:33 PM

Hey guys!

Rie - I'm also pms'ing and feeling overly emotional about things. (In my case, it's a class that was frustrating me. Oh, and I came home last night to a huge ants infestation in my bathroom. Must've been around 200 crawling around forming the size of a doormat. It was horrific!) It helps knowing it's our pms giving us the feels. I keep telling myself things will look so different once it passes. Well, except for the memory of those ants. That will always look like the horror it is. Hang in there! The first run back, ime, is always a pain in the @ss. Stick with it, and you'll notice gains soon! :) And I agree with curvynotlumpy--all exercise pays off. I'm sure Insanity is improving your fitness. It may not be transferring to running yet though, but it will in time. Insanity is killer and major props to you for doing it! :cp: I realized I might've been unclear before. I might have made it sound like I was a former athlete, but I was referring to your mom as one. Back when I was in better shape, mainly what I liked was going on challenging hikes without getting tired or breathless, running, high stamina for lots of walking, and doing various workout routines (Brazil Butt Lift is my favorite).

curvynotlumpy - Thank you! :) Not too long ago, I was in your shoes. I hope you get to experience the same soon! I bought 4 pairs of pants a month ago. I deliberately bought them all slightly snug bc I'm kinda cheap/broke ;) and I wanted to make sure they'd fit for a while as I lose weight.

Usually, people GAIN pounds on the scale when strength training. So if you are strength training and still lost 3 pounds, that is great in my book. The big question is how many inches have you lost in that same time period?

somedaysunny 09-05-2018 08:21 PM

curvynotlumpy I think I'm going to wait and see if I hit that goal before I change it, if things go south I don't want even more disappointment lol this mornings weight was higher then Mondays so that sucked

I really need to get on the exercise bandwagon but I just can't get the motivation, I've only went over my calorie limit twice in the last 2 weeks, and it wasn't like an extra 1,000 calories or anything like that so I don't know why I've went up a little.

Riestrella 09-06-2018 09:37 AM

Thanks for your support, guys!

Yesterday I had a bit of a moment, I think it was definitely a "period monster" moment since I picked up a pack of root beer (Boylan's cane sugar) and had THREE yesterday. That's the most soda I've drank in one day for a long, long time. I think I came to peace with the fact that my weight is taking a while longer and I'm open to the idea of working out 4 times a week now, but also to cutting down on bread significantly. Even though I had an egg sandwich for breakfast, I really really wanted a slice of bread in the early evening to tide me over until dinner, but I resisted and I was greeted with a nice weigh in of 183.8 lbs this morning, a 0.8 lb drop from yesterday and a 2 lb drop from my highest weight on Tuesday. I think my veggie pasta in the evening also helped - a break from meat was definitely needed. I'm going to be planning vegetarian dishes up until we leave for CO (except Sunday, our 9 year anniversary!) since I know we'll end up divulging in CO.

I'm kind of worried about my trip, it's for my SIL's wedding, but the in-laws haven't seen me in person since December and I've gained about 20 lbs since then. They're very judgmental people about weight and even though I know they won't treat me differently, I can't help but feel self conscious that they'll notice the gain and maybe talk about it when I'm not around. One time, years ago, they pointed out a woman on the street and said "look how huge she is" and she wasn't that bad. I think because they love me they wouldn't be nasty to me about my weight, but it's still one of those things to worry about, especially since the MIL has recently been on a huge health kick. I hope I don't get any comments like "maybe you should ___" when I didn't ask for an opinion. I'm sure it'll be fine, but being in the 180's again has made me aware that yes - people can see I'm overweight again, there's just no hiding it. More reason to kick it up a notch and say goodbye to the 180's!

curvy - Sounds like we both had a similar labor day experience!! Nice to rest, but not so nice for the body! "No exercise is wasted" - you are so right. Thank you for that, I needed to hear it. I hope that once my stamina improves the Insanity training will provide a nice foundation for improvement.

chunk - My skin just crawled thinking about your ant infestation, how awful!! What was the cause, do you know? When I moved into my first apartment on my own in Japan I had a cockroach problem for the first week or so because the door wasn't sealed properly, I came home one night and switched the light on and saw about 15 cockroaches run around in different directions. Such an awful feeling to have bugs invade your personal space! Thanks for the pep talk, I feel a bit silly now to let it bug me so much, but it's a sign I'll just have to work for it and working is always a drag  Why can't I just magically be awesome?!

Lacerta - I really wish I would've measured!! But I didn't, since I'm a big stupid  I definitely feel stronger, so I need to focus on that and not entirely on the scale.

sunny - You could try something simple? Like a YouTube workout or a walk?

somedaysunny 09-06-2018 02:58 PM

Rie I'm always so tired when I get home, I'm done for the day. But when I leave school I'm so tired I just want to go home and then the weekends is nothing but studying lol I know it's all excuses but I can't even motivate to do something in the house lol

RunningRedHead 09-06-2018 03:04 PM

Hope you y'all don't mind if I join a bit late! Thank you Riestrella for another one of your wonderful challenges! I'm hoping to lose 10lbs by halloween so I can rock my costume as Joan Holloway from Mad Men  Best of luck to you all!

Cattails 09-07-2018 12:59 AM

I have nothing to report weight-wise - the scale is sticking hard to 130 for now. Oh well, sooner or later it's bound to budge. But I wanted to say to you, Rie, that you are ALREADY awesome, and you always have been! If there is one thing I would say to everyone that is carrying a little (or lot) more weight than they are comfortable with, it's "Please don't let your weight hold you back from enjoying life!" Your weight is only a small part of you, like your hair color and whether you are right or left handed. There is so much more to you, and so many aspects that mean more than how much you weigh. Be happy to be here, now, as you are.

With that said, be prepared for some 'well-meaning' comments from the in-laws - maybe have some polite responses ready just in case, like "Thank you for caring. And how are YOU?" Some people seem to think they can motivate you by pointing out your weight gain - as if a person is unaware of their own weight? LOL

Happy Friday, all!
