    Total Loss for Week One:

Ok, today just had me confused. I really expected to be back into 246.x territory this morning, not up to 248.2. I was surprised enough, I stepped off and weighed in again to be sure. That is my biggest 1 day gain so far, but I got my two walks in yesterday and ate well and drank a lot of water. I have no explanation, so here's hoping for a whoosh in the next few days.

Beautiful out today, so hubby and I went for a walk on the Greenbelt along the river, about 2.5 miles.
  • Kim: I'm dealing with the same confusing thing. However, like I was saying in my main post, I have learned that the body has its ups and downs, even during perfectly on-plan weeks...so, keep at it and I'm sure you will get your whoosh soon!

kfunk: The whole gut health/bloating/detox thing is my main reason for trying it again, yes. Ever since I had my gallbladder removed last summer, I've felt "off" in that department, so I'm hoping this helps! And, nowadays, you can find kombucha in just about any grocery store, even Wal-Mart. It's usually up in those refrigerated sections by the produce, next to the green juices and smoothie drinks. Sometimes, depending on the store, it will be placed next to the vegetarian/vegan sections, since it's widely considered a health drink or "superfood" type thing. The Health•Ade brand is more commonly found at health food grocery shops or at standalone grocery stores, instead of multi-product type places like Wal-Mart. I have seen the Health•Ade at Target too, though. I guess it would just depend on your area! The fermented tea base for theirs tastes more like an ale to me, which is why I can actually enjoy it, as opposed to many of the other common brands tasting more akin to an apple cider vinegar, which is a less palatable flavor profile to me, lol. I haven't tried a ton of brands though, just a few, so let me know if you end up trying any that you like!

    Joe: Enjoy your rest day!

    -----------------------------------------

Holding steady at 176.0 again today. I'm just going to continue to stay on plan, trust the process, and hope that something breaks through soon! It's been disappointing to see the same or higher numbers everyday while being on-point, but I have learned from experience that - if you stick to your guns - the scale will eventually show it. I also made sure to take updated measurements yesterday like I said I was going to, so I will have those to turn to as well, just in case the scale stays stubborn all month again. I hope everyone enjoys what is left of the weekend!

  • Quote: How many extra calories are you adding per day, not including the day you are adding 600?
I"m going for 979 per day in theory, which is 10% increase including the 600. So daily should be approximately what I've already been doing (but just decided to have more brekkie), and I have a splurge in addition, to use in bits and pieces or on one day of the week, whatever. Will do it for June and see what happens.
In May I averaged 899, in April 870, in March 881, Feb was 849 and Jan was 874, so it's really those sort of numbers that are a kind of habit now and I've not been hungry, so at the moment i'd prefer to just use the extra calories as 'treats' (other than brekkie) and not use them by increasing normal food just yet. If I find I can start eating more and more and not put weight on, then i'll be tapping in to increase my portion sizes too (or have more red meat or high calorific stuff that I've limited so far).
  • Hello all,
    S
    GardenerJoy thanks for the thread!

    June goal -2.5

    6/1-142.4
    6/2-142.4
    6/3-142.2
    6/4-142.4
    6/5-141.7
    6/6-142.0
    6/7-144.2
6/8-140.8 obviously not a real gain yesterday...

  • Lacerta- That is frustrating but you are doing very well despite the scale! I hope you get your whoosh very soon!!

Ophelia- Thank you for the information about the tea. I have heard about it, but wasn’t sure what the benefits were. I just started taking some probiotic gummy vitamins to see if that helps my gut! I am almost wondering if I am having signs of gallstones. I will keep my eyes open for the Health Ade brand because I wouldn’t be able to stomach anything that resembles apple cider vinegar! The patience part of this journey sucks but when the scale starts moving again it will feel so good!!

    Ange
    - Your monthly calories are very impressive, I must have a bigger appetite than you because I think anything under 1100 would leave me hungry. You have done so fabulously!!!!

Just glad to not see another gain!

kfunk My cycle has been all over the place recently so I haven't even thought about that. I just checked the calendar and if things are settling back down for me it's completely possible it's ovulation. How irritating to be a girl huh?

Casey I hear you. It's just weird for me because I'm not used to seeing no change so early on in a restart. I usually have a month of consistent loss before things slow down and/or completely stop.

I'm going to actually track my calories really close starting today and just make sure I'm not missing something. I generally eat a lot of the same things everyday and know the range I'm in most of the time without recording. If anything I may be getting too few calories and might need to adjust my macros to get by body acting right.

Hope everyone has a nice week!
  • Way to go on your loss so far this month kfunk. You're on a roll.

    Total Loss for Week One:

Grrr. I really do think this gain has been from muscles retaining water and possibly building a tiny bit of muscle gain. I've done quite a bit (comparatively) of new strength training over the last week, whereas before I was just walking. So far over the last few days, I've also done: water aerobics (which, despite the name, actually has a lot of strength element to it), 6 pool laps, 10 minutes of an online workout video and 30 minutes on my Wii Fit that I dug out of the closet. I know that isn't a LOT of strength exercise, but it is that much more than I had done, and I've been pretty sore over the last few days.

I have to keep reminding myself that the scale can be deceptive when starting strength training.

I am staying consistently good on my eating, and getting in my walking (actually did 4.5 miles yesterday), so at some point, it will move down again. Maybe not in time to make my June weight goal, but any muscles I gain should help me with meeting future goals easier.

I'm going to have to work a lot of hours this week, so not going to be able to make it to the pool much, maybe Thursday. But I'm going to try to do something on my Wii every day after work, and still get my walks in. Got my 2 miles in this morning already.

Here's to everyone seeing a whoosh this week.
  • I ate a lot of chips yesterday. And an ice cream cone. We went to the beach. I was tempted not to weigh today, knowing it could be bad. So I'm logging a victory in facing the music.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

    Total Loss for Week One:
  • Quick check in after the weekend. I had a couple of events over the weekend (graduation parties, family dinners) and was good as gold. Friday we went out and I had a chicken sandwich minus the bread and cheese, a couple of French fries and a small scoop of ice cream. I stayed within my calorie range. Friday at the party they were serving tacos/nachos. I had a black bean bowl with salsa, olives, lettuce, and a sprinkle of cheese. And one of my niece’s chocolate chip cookies. Still within range, and I helped out with serving, so I sat for maybe 5 minutes from 5 – 11PM and worked in the yard/house all day. As of today, I’m less than a lb away from 20 lb loss. It feels strange, because I’m wearing the same size pants, they just fit very differently. I’m down a shirt size. My next big goal is 162, which puts me in the “normal” BMI range. I don’t think I’ll hit that until next month, but I’m really excited to be in the same decade as that goal.

Back for personals later this week – I have tomorrow off for my daughters last day of school, so I’ll try to catch up after I drop her off in the morning.

  • This past week was not the best but I got back on track and worked this weekend. I am finally seeing some results and today I was able to get back to my workouts. My right knee has been giving me problems so I was off the last 4 days. No pain today so i'm glad about that. I see quite a few of us that are bouncing around and having unexplained gains so I feel your pain!

  • kfunk: Let me know what you think if you try it! And, hopefully the probiotic gummies are helping, as well. If you have any questions about gallstones and such, let me know...I really hope you don't have them, because they can become quite painful when they sometimes block the bile duct! That's what's known as a gallbladder "attack", and I was just about certain I was having a heart attack the first time it happened to me. It scared me so much that I was in tears on the side of the bed in the middle of the night, especially since my dad died at the age of 58 from a heart attack....no fun.

Kim: Good idea on double checking the calories...sometimes, things can sneak up on you! Funny story of a tiny example, I was switching out the bottles of my coffee creamer yesterday as the old one was running out, and - as I went to throw it away - I realized it wasn't the sugar-free kind that I usually get and was just the regular kind. So, for the past month, I've been unknowingly logging a 48-calorie cup of coffee at lunch everyday instead of what was actually almost a 200-calorie cup of coffee!! It's not enough to totally derail me, but little things like that can definitely add up if you don't notice them or track them properly. (Same with getting in too little cals as well, like you said.) That was definitely a face-palm moment for me.

nicoley73: That is half the battle -- staying accountable, regardless of the loss or gain! Making that choice - at least to me - tells me that you've already built the right mentality for bouncing back right away and will get right back on track.

SnowMama: Amazing job staying on track all weekend with all that going on...bravo! And, passing 162 is exactly what puts me into the "normal" BMI range and is my next mini-goal, as well --how neat! I even have a ticker for it and everything, lol. You're closer to it than I am, so now that I know we're the exact same height and have that same milestone coming up, I'm rooting for you to hit it more than ever!

Joe: Great job on the steps, Joe!

momtopands: I am glad that you're seeing some downward movement on the scale again and that your knee is feeling better!

    -----------------------------------------

Hallelujah -- after a week and a half of stalling, I finally got some movement on the scale! I got a mini-whoosh to 174.6 today. Now, let's hope I get to keep it tomorrow. I did a 5 mile during triple digit weather (101*) yesterday, so I think that may be part of the sudden drop. I got in a little over a gallon though, so hopefully that kept me hydrated enough that this isn't just a fluke on the scale. We shall see! Sticking with the on-plan food schedule and will be going swimming later this afternoon with the kids now that our outdoor pool on post here is finally open...I'm just hoping I don't get sunburnt again, lol.

    May 5th: 119.24

Wow, busy round here, which is great. Shame that i'm too lazy to do personals!
It's really good to read everyone's updates.

I'm doing a mini-bounce around thing, which is fine. My food has been the same as always but I did have a glass of wine last night - we went to play crazy-golf in a pub. It was very crazy golf (27 holes worth) but good fun (and better with a glass of wine!!)

My spreadsheet informs me that after 4 days this week I now have an average of 1087 calories per day to consume for the next 3 days. Sounds heaps, but will probably save the majority for dinner with friends on Thursday. I also weighed in for my 4th month in a Transformer challenge in Diet Bet, and am way ahead of target so not much worrying there, although I am looking forward to seeing how much money i'll make by the end of it. I pledged (gambled!) $125 at the start, and have got back around $100 so far, but should make close to $100 profit by the end I think - mainly because it started at the end of January and so there were lots of people joining at that time of year that subsequently gave up, leaving more money in the kitty for the remaining people
  • Kim- That is so frustrating about your cycle, I had experienced the same thing, but it finally seems to be straightening itself out. At least now that might explain the inconsistency on the scale and you can look forward to your upcoming whoosh!!! I also tend to eat the same foods, makes life so much easier!

Lacerta- Thank you! YES, all the hard work you are putting in probably explains a lot of the water retention, especially if it is a newer regimen! Also, normal monthly fluctuations can play a huge role. I lose all my weight in 2 weeks during the month, the other 2 months I bounce around. Way to go on your walking, that is fantastic!!

Nicoley- Congrats on getting on the scale, not always easy when you expect a gain.

Snowmama- You did soooo good over the weekend!!!! What is your typical calorie range? Congrats on -20 lbs. down, you are on fire!! How exciting that a normal BMI is so close!!

    Joe
    - woooohooo, great job on the steps!!!!!!

Momtopands- I am glad to hear that your knee is feeling better after a few days’ rest. Great job getting right back to your workouts, which is not easy!!! Very nice drops this week!

Ophelia- I ended up having a doctor appointment yesterday and was able to address my concerns. Since the pain I have is constant instead of coming and going she thinks that its less likely I have gallstones, but my gallbladder could still be malfunctioning. I go in for an endoscopy next month and hopefully I won’t have any more episodes before then! I have been feeling really gaggy eating certain foods and that is making it difficult because I am a creature of habit. Oh no, your experience sounds awful, I am really glad that it wasn’t a heart related issue in your case! Congratulations on your whoosh!!!!

Ange- I love how you have a spreadsheet that keeps track for you, that is brilliant!! I hope that lots of people ended up dropping out at the beginning of the year so that you get more $$ for your diet bet! I am in the middle of a 4% one as we speak, but I usually only make about 15-20 profit from the little ones.

    Ah! Yay! Mini whoosh today.

My calories did seem to be fine from tracking closely yesterday. I'll continue to do so and just watch for any odd trends. Also considering that my muscles might finally be letting go of some water retention. I started my strength training back up last Monday and the first week I'm always so sore. Soreness is almost completely gone so that could be making a difference.

kfunk You're having a great week!

Casey Oh man, that sucks about the creamer! I would have lost my mind as my diet is no sugar. Congrats on your whoosh yesterday.

Everyone seems to be doing great so far.
