Winter Olympics 16 Day Challenge

Hi everyone.

Join the Winter Olympics 16 Day Challenge. The Challenge starts the first day of the Olympics on February 9 and ends on February 25. Set your weight loss goal for the next 16 days. All the goals will be compiled into a list. As each goal is met, it will turn gold/yellow to represent a gold medal in celebration of your achievement.

First weigh in is February 9 and final weigh in is February 25. You can weigh daily, weekly or whatever works best for you.

 flower1

Thanks for this challenge. I have no idea why I'm drawn to it but I am and can't see the downside to joining it. My Olympic weight loss goal is 5 pounds.

:goodluck: everyone!

flower1 02-08-2018 01:59 PM

Welcome curvy - glad you joined. Great goal:). I love the Olympics and try to watch as much of it as I can. There are a few qualifying events that start before the official opening ceremonies. Yesterday I watched the curling mixed doubles between Canada and Norway (I'm Canadian). Today the figure skating team event starts and tomorrow is the opening ceremonies and the start of our Challenge.

curvynotlumpy 02-08-2018 06:41 PM

Thanks, flower1. I enjoy the Olympics as well; sometimes too much as I stay up way later than I should. ;) Even with the time difference I still watch and don't mind if I find out ahead of time how countries finish in the medal standings. My goal with your challenge is to use this time to establish and re-establish some good habits even if I don't lose pounds.

curvynotlumpy 02-09-2018 10:51 AM

Good morning :coffee2:

Here we go!

February 9 SW: 211.2
Weight loss goal: 5 lbs.

flower1 02-09-2018 02:45 PM

Good morning. Did you watch the figure skating team event last night? One of my favourites in the men's event is Nathan Chen from the US and of course our Canadian, Patrick Chan.

Day 1 of the Olympics:)

February 9 SW: 134.2
Weight loss Goal: 2 lbs.

curvynotlumpy 02-09-2018 06:42 PM

I watched most of the skating last night. The time difference was messing with me though; seeing skating last night but Opening Ceremony tonight. We have a lot of talented youth on the skating team. Come to think of it, :chin: most of the teams.

curvynotlumpy 02-10-2018 11:30 AM

Good morning :coffee2:

Weight is back down to 209.4 this morning. I've finally released my bloat from this week's TOM and Super Bowl weekend. I wish I could attribute it to on plan eating and some :kickbutt: workouts but no, just biology at work.

What did you think of the Opening Ceremonies, flower1? I thought they were outstanding. I seem to enjoy the winter OCs more than the summer OCs. I think it's because the sky is so dark and everything else is so vivid against them. I sat in awe and admiration of the two athletes who ran the torch up that long flight of stairs. Wow. Just wow!

February 9: 211.2
February 10: 209.4

flower1 02-10-2018 12:49 PM

Hi curvy. Wow nice drop:) I seem to be plateauing again (sigh...).

I thought the opening ceremonies were outstanding as well. I enjoy the winter Olympics more than the summer too. I find the winter sports a bit more exciting. I watched the skiing biathlon last night - those athletes are in such fantastic shape.

Feb 9: 134.2
Feb 10: 134.4

kfunk6113 02-10-2018 03:37 PM

flower thank you for starting this thread!!

Good afternoon ladies! I am going to jump in with a goal of 3.2 lbs.

SW: 170.8
GW: 167

I hope you guys are enjoying the start of the Olympics. I will be honest, I do not watch much but I do hope to catch some figure skating!

flower1 02-10-2018 03:49 PM

hey kfunk - glad you joined us here:). I thought this might be a fun challenge. Wow you are almost in a new decade. Great job! You really turned your week around. I'm plateaued again ... and feel quite bloated.

Tomorrow team figure skating is on - the dance and ladies. I will definitely be watching. I just watched the mixed doubles curling with Canada and Russia. Canada rocked it 6-2.

Here are our goals so far. Good luck everyone!

curvy: 5 lbs
kfunk: 3.2 lbs
flower: 2 lbs

fofo_bunny 02-11-2018 12:26 PM

Hi all! I'm a huge Olympics fan too! I don't have a weight for Feb 9th, but I do for the 10th. This is probably a pretty big goal for me, but I'm using a new scale and think I might have a bit of water weight on me, so it might happen. Besides, the Olympics are for pushing yourself, right?

SW: 142.0
-2 lbs
GW: 140.0

flower1 02-11-2018 03:10 PM

fofo bunny: glad you joined us here:) Great goal. I agree the Olympics are for pushing yourself. What a great way to look at it - I'm going to remind myself of that for the next 2 weeks and try and push myself more than I have been doing.

Kfunk: Did you watch the figure skating yesterday? It was the team event with the ladies short and the ice-dancing short. The Canadian ice-dancers, Tessa Virtue and Scot Moir, were fantastic as well as the US dance team. The ladies were really good too.

curvy: How's your weekend going?

I am pleased with my drop today because I had been plateaued for the past week. I'm heading out for a walk soon. The sun is out but it's pretty chilly.

Flower I am glad your persistence paid off with a huge whoosh!! I caught a couple of the woman’s dances but missed the rest. It is incredible what they can do while making it look effortless.

I had a small uptick this morning but I was on plan yesterday. The weekend was jam packed and I didn’t get a chance to work out. My youngest is sick so I am staying home with him tomorrow, so I will get a workout in while he naps.

Fofo_bunny it’s nice to see a new face!! Good luck with your goal, I hope the water flushed away very soon for you!

flower1 02-13-2018 10:16 AM

I hope everyone is enjoying the Olympics. I watched the figure skating finals in the team event and some of the men's speed skating. It was excellent.

My weight went up a bit since my drop a few days ago but this seems to be my pattern.

Feb 13: 133

kfunk6113 02-14-2018 08:47 AM

flower I always bounce back up a smidge after a big drop, it will be off in no time!!

I haven't had a chance to tune in the Olympics, but enjoy the updates!

fofo_bunny 02-14-2018 12:21 PM

Thanks kfunk! It's very hard to tell what's going to happen with my weight as my birthday is also over this weekend, and I do like to indulge for special occasions. Of course, it's a week before the end of the challenge, so as long as I finish strong I should be able to get rid of all of that birthday bloat, huh?

So what are all of your favorite things to watch for the Olympics? I really like watching pretty much everything. I haven't watched too terribly much so far, but did get to see pairs skating last night. Those athletes really are incredible! It's amazing how they look so graceful running around on a sheet of ice balancing on a thin blade, jumping and throwing each other in the air! Now, I can ice skate, but pretty much just in a straight line, haha!

I'm excited to watch some of the various cross-country ski races as well, as I used to compete cross-country skiing in high school. I was alright, but not phenomenal at it. And ski jumping I always find really fun to watch too! And downhill. And skeleton. And curling. And snowboarding! Yeah, I just think it's so fun watching all of these amazing athletes fulfill their dreams.

flower1 02-14-2018 12:48 PM

fofo bunny - I watched the pairs skating last night too. I was really impressed with how many of the couples did a clean program. I think the pairs do their long program tonight so I'm going to watch that. I also enjoy the speed skating, ski jumping, downhill, curling and snowboarding too.

kfunk - that definitely seems to be my pattern too - lose a bit and then jump up a bit ... I'm hoping things will start going downward again.

I hope everyone is having a great week:)

kfunk6113 02-15-2018 08:30 AM

fofo_bunny What are you planning on doing for your birthday!? If you are careful afterwards you could totally flush out the water weight by the end of the challenge, drink lots of water before and after!!

172 this morning. I have been good so I am excited for the drop that should be coming!

flower1 02-15-2018 12:40 PM

fofo bunny: I hope you have a great birthday this weekend:)

kfunk: I hope you have a nice drop. You're almost in a new decade - I'm excited for you!

curvy: how are you doing?

I'm going to watch the figure skating today.

Good to see everyone and newcomers! I've been fine, flower1. Thank you for asking. Unfortunately, I lose track of challenges I join and forget to check in. I was happy to have seen your name in one of the threads and I quickly remembered that it had been a few days since I dropped by. Weight is still at 209.

So, I've been telling everyone that in my next life I will be a biathlete. In my next life I'll also be super athletically gifted and participate in the summer Olympics as well; either in fencing or archery! Nothing that will hurt my head or take me off my feet. ;)

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

fofo_bunny 02-16-2018 09:45 AM

Hey everyone!

SW: 142.0
02/16: 141.4
GW: 140.0

As for my birthday, I don't have any huge plans. I'm currently at my folks' house for a long weekend, but need to drive back on Sunday (my birthday) to the place where I'm currently living for a few weeks for a short internship, which is ~4 hrs away, so a good chunk will be spent driving! I did buy some birthday cake HaloTop ice cream, though, so I can try to be a little "better" than usual. Have you guys tried HaloTop? I love it! It definitely doesn't taste exactly like real ice cream so I know people who don't like the taste, but I like it quite a bit and think it's the best tasting of the low-cal ice cream I've tried. I'm sure it doesn't fit into quite a few diet plans, but I'm essentially just counting calories (and trying to limit empty carbs because I know they make me crave more).

And hey curvy, why wait until your next life to be a biathlete? Cross-country skiing is a great exercise! Lots of cardio, strength, AND it's low impact! Good equipment is expensive, but you can definitely find some used stuff for not too much! And local ski shops (at least around here) are SUPER helpful. It's a very close-knit community, and you can certainly do it until old age! My grandma recently just stopped skiing, and she's in her 80's, but that's mostly a dementia thing, not an ability thing. Anyway, as you can tell, I'm a huge proponent of skiing. I think it's pretty much the perfect exercise!

curvynotlumpy 02-17-2018 01:17 PM

 fofo bunny!

Thanks for the encouragement! I like your :kickbutt: attitude. Your grandma sounds like an exceptional lady! Years ago I had a friend who attended Cornell University in Upstate New York. She took up cross-country skiing because trails were readily available just minutes from her doorstep. She loved it and attests to it being the best overall exercise she ever did.

flower1 02-17-2018 09:01 PM

How's everyone doing?

Week 1 of our challenge is done and we only have 8 days left until the challenge is over. I hope all of us make our goals this week:) I'm going to try and push myself a little more with the exercise this week.

Does anyone else have anything they want to concentrate on this week?

I watched the men's figure skating last night - it was an excellent event.

flower1 02-18-2018 01:10 PM

flower CONGRATS on making your goal!! Good luck meeting your bonus goal, it sounds like you are well on your way!! I would like to focus on eating more vegetables this week and also making sure I get all my water in. Yesterday I only drank about 40oz. I usually drink 3x that amount.

bunny I hope that you enjoyed your Birthday!!

curvy I hope you are doing well!!

I am hoping to get rid of the water weight in the next couple days as my TOM finishes up. I still feel like my goal is possible!

fofo_bunny 02-21-2018 11:07 PM

Hey all and congrats flower!!! I'm currently watching some of the downhill and oof are people really going for it (and going all out when they biff it). I've heard there have been quite a few serious injuries from the downhill today, so hopefully that stops.

Also, I am so incredibly excited about the women's cross-country team sprint! This is the USA's second medal in cross-country for the Olympics ever, and the other one occurred back in the 70's, and this one is now even a gold! I was very much into cross-country skiing when I was in high school
(as I mentioned... and I really need to get back into it, but school... both time and finances as well as finding people to ski with... has really put a damper on that. But let's be honest, it's mostly because I let myself be lazy and it's cold outside). Anyway, I am so so so excited about this.

Anyway, I feel like I had my own Olympic workout today. I go to a cardio kickboxing class on Wednesdays, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE, and it usually kicks my butt, but oh man. Today was brutal, and it wasn't just me. There were way more people than usual who were letting out grunts, etc. as well as stopping for breaks in the middle of sets. I had to completely stop a couple times myself and I haven't had to do that in awhile. As for what actually happened for my birthday, it was nothing too exciting, but still a good day. I ate quite a bit, including a DQ cake, which is my favorite. We got a half-off leftover Valentine's cake. Yum! I think I did pretty good over the weekend with not going crazy on food, though, I suppose there was one day where I just could not put the box of fruit snacks down. Oops. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have derailed me too much, if at all. I do like to have semi-regular indulgence/cheat days, because I think it's more sustainable for me, I don't feel very deprived, and well, it may or may not help keep my BMR higher? Who really knows how accurate that is. My weigh in for today was on the scale at the gym and in the evening, so not my usual AM weigh-in. However, I'm not sure how consistent it is with my scale at home.

fo fo bunny: great job -you're almost at goal - well done:) Sounds like you did great over the weekend. I like to have one day a week that I eat what I want too - I don't go crazy but it's just not as strict as during the week. That seems to work for me, however, I could probably do a bit better on the weekends.

kfunk6113 02-22-2018 08:31 AM

flower Thank you for your encouragement! I am excited for the weekend thread too, I think it will make a HUGE difference for me!! REMIND me if I forget!!!! Back down to 169.6 today so hoping that I can have a few strong days strung together!! I love your medal pic!

fofo Good job handling your bday! I like to have days where I indulge because it helps from feeling deprived. I do need to lock it up on my end though because the cheat days are becoming to frequent, and I have been working on losing weight for well over a year and just want this part done with! It does give me confidence for when I reach maintenance though! Your cardio kickboxing class sounds super hard core, well done!!!! You are very close to your goal!
