JOIN THE "YEAR-END POUND CLEARANCE CHALLENGE"
BEGINS 11-05-17
LATE ENTRIES ARE OKAY
LET'S SUPPORT EACH OTHER DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

SURVIVE THE HOLIDAYS WITHOUT PACKING ON THE POUNDS!

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...LossClinic.jpg

JOIN NOW! Just make a "reply post" in this thread and indicate that you want to join. There is a link to the challenge spreadsheet at the end of this post. Click on it to get to the spreadsheet, then bookmark it (so you can get back to it easily)

Let's have some fun and support each other, during this challenging time of year! No need to stress about competition. For some, the main goal might be to NOT gain weight and to stay on track. For others, who stray a bit too much during the holidays, this challenge can be helpful for you to get back on track after a slip or two. Let's help each other.

The only requirements are that you post a minimum of once a week (no matter how short) and weigh in with a starting weight and then a final weight for the challenge. You are asked to put a weight entry on the weekly weigh-in sheet. You can decide how often you actually step on the scale (except for the start and finish weights). If you aren't going to step on the scale during any week, you will be responsible for placing your last known weight on the weekly weigh-in sheet. So, you are required to enter a number for each week, but you decide if you want to carry forward a prior weight. A weekly chart will be posted with the weight loss stats. The final weigh-in will be on 12-31-17.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ineDancing.gif

WEIGH-INS:
The first weigh-in will be Sunday, November 5th. We will, thereafter, weigh in (or repost your prior weight) once a week on Sundays. You can choose to use a different day to weigh in (i.e., Friday, Sat. or Mon), but the weigh-in date on the paperwork will always reflect a Sunday.

Upon initial weigh-in, you will place your starting weight and goal weight on the "Stat Sheet". After that, you will go to a Weekly-Weigh In sheet for the weekly weigh in and enter your weight there. A new sheet will be available each week by Sunday. The Weigh-In Sheets will feed stats into the Stat Sheet

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ey-glitter.gifhttp://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...owday_e0-1.gif

REQUIRED LEVEL OF PARTICIPATION:
Post your weight/make an entry every Sunday on the Weigh-In Sheet (at the spreadsheet link). Please communicate within the team thread on the message board, by posting at least once a week. Interaction with a team is an important part of the challenge.

OPTIONAL PARTICIPATION:
These additional opportunities will be offered and are voluntary. You can choose which ones you will participate in. You can choose all or none.

        I am in!

Getting through the Autumn and Winter holidays without falling off the bandwagon has always been difficult for me -- I am usually off-track again before November. But, I am still here and holding on for dear life after my fall from grace this summer, because I have a lot of catching up to do now from that regain. I can't let the holidays trip me up after falling so far behind already! I need to break through these next few barriers (getting through the holidays and breaking out of the 200s, mainly) to prove to myself that I can. So, this challenge is perfectly timed for me! Especially since I restarted on here right before the New Year last year...so, this will help me round out a full year (other than my aforementioned hiatus this summer after a move) trying to get healthy again. I'd like to see what I can get accomplished by the end of 2017.

Best of luck to everyone...see you all on Sunday! :grouphug:

        HI EVERYONE!
My goal for this challenge is 11 pounds. That would put me in one-der-land. I gave myself most of the week off. My exercise and steps was low and I allowed myself a few treats. Now, it's time for me to get serious. I really want to make my goal for this challenge.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I hate the time change, so, I'm going to be struggling a bit. One goal is to stick with getting up an hour earlier and make the most of the available daylight.

        Have a good week!

        Curvynotlumpy
I'm glad you joined the challenge! You will be successful, I know it!

        Chub
Best wishes with your goal. Ten pounds is a realistic goal, but I made mine 11 pounds, as I really want to get to one-der-land. I like to look at weigh-loss in goals of "10". With the amount of weight I need to lose, it seems to work for me and keeps me focused.

        Opheliaphoenix
Welcome to the challenge. A move can certainly throw you off course. I struggle with overeating and hybernating in the Fall and Winter, so I can identify with the challenge. I hope this challenge is helpful for you and that it helps you get back on track.

Munchey, you and I are in the same weight-loss boat, girl! Our stats and goals are almost exactly the same. Let's row this boat together!

Great to see so many join what is probably the hardest challenge of the year due to the holidays. Good luck to everyone! :grouphug:

        opheliaphoenix 11-05-2017 04:57 PM

        Munchey: Ditto!! :)

        --------------------

Okay, I am here for the official starting weigh-in for the challenge! I'm kind of stuck in a mini-plateau at the moment, so I am 230.2 today, and am hoping that this challenge will kickstart a break in the lull for me.

As for my goals for the challenge....about mid-way through the year, I was on target to being able to say I lost 100 lbs in just under a year, but then fell off the bandwagon hard this summer and completely ruined that possibility for myself. So, while my ultimate wish would be to, somehow, hit 197 before the end of December, I don't see how that could ever be a likely or even possible scenario unless I have some pretty hefty whooshes...haha. That being said, I'm obviously going to be more realistic, especially with the holiday season coming up and knowing that my mom and her husband will likely be coming to town for Christmas -- and, they LIKE TO COOK, which always spells disaster for me, because they are also good at it...lol. So, with that understanding, I'm going to set my goal for 210 lbs. That's just a couple ounces over 20 lbs, which I know is still fairly ambitious, but I feel like if I keep my usual "10 lbs per month" goal in mind, it will help me push through the temptations of the season a little easier. If I hit it or even surpass it, I will be thrilled, but I'd be happy just getting as close as possible.

And, like I said on my first post...best of luck to us all! ------- :dust:

(P.S. Adding a ticker for the challenge!)

        flying_unipig 11-06-2017 06:36 AM

        Hello all,
I'm in too! I am starting on a "high", and not in a good way - a few pounds seemed to have jumped on in the last couple of weeks. I'm hoping that at least some of it is just water weight, although I also had some serious stress munchies going on :-/ My biggest challenge is trying to stay on top of my eating (and ideally exercise, although that's definitely part 2), when life gets a bit more rocky. So hopefully checking in here once a week will help a bit :)

Hope you all have a good week!!

        Riestrella 11-06-2017 12:52 PM

        Hey guys!

Weight for the start of the week is unfortunately high. I managed to get down to 173 lbs by Halloween but I've been developing some horrible eating habits recently. Mainly snacking on salt/carb heavy snacks late at night due to cravings kicking in. I'm starting the challenge at 175.4 lbs, eep! I really need to focus on drinking water, which in the latter half of the year I have been failing at, and cutting back on these awful craving fueled snacks. My goal weight for this challenge/the end of 2017 is to get into the 160's again. So I put 169 lbs in there.

Exercise has been wonderful in the past week. I ran 4 times, which is pretty amazing to me! Unfortunately, however, I was playing catch up after failing to run 3 times a week for my first week of training, so I need to run 4 times this week as well to officially get back on schedule. Luckily the runs are still low mileage because it's a 5K I'm training for, so it's not too intimidating. It's been warm here for the last week though, which I HATE! We had a cold snap and the leaves changed colours, but now it's warm and my brain is confused. It sees the colourful leaves and does not like feeling the warm weather!

Life is getting a bit better! Health care could be a major issue for us though, but fingers crossed after a meeting on Wednesday we manage to find something that covers my BF's medication. Work seems to be ok for the near future, I had a potential job offer but it would require relocation (to Tokyo no less). Trying not to get my hopes up too much about it, but we'll see. Would be interesting to live in Japan again doing something I care about this time around!

        ---

A general HELLO, FRIENDS! WE CAN DO THIS! To everyone who's joined the challenge and set goals!

Ophelia - My advice to you would be forgive yourself!! It's very easy to carry around the baggage from past mistakes, but really analyze what made you fall off track and try and learn from it so you can prevent it in future. Sometimes life just gets crazy and it's so easy to put weight loss on the back burner, but it seems like you're ready now to focus and that's a wonderful thing!!

        ichoose2believe 11-06-2017 03:29 PM

        I'm in.
My goal is honestly just to lose something... anything. I do hope to lose about 10lbs by the new year... Finally get into the 260's since I decided to gain over the last 3 months.

        Miko17 11-07-2017 04:45 AM

        Hi, all!
This is my first post and first challenge. I’m a newbie! I currently weigh 299.4. I have managed to put on quite a bit of weight over the past few years. However, with the tools and support via this community, my desire is to rid my body of the extra pounds. Looking forward to lighter days ahead.

        MorningGlory1950 11-07-2017 12:28 PM

I love the Year End Clearance challenge title, Munchey! Thank you for the oh so helpful spreadsheets.

I have just returned from vacation to Monterey, California. I did fairly well eating, but came home and reverted right back to the night time binge mode.

So I am at an all time high this since summer...hopefully a lot of water weight...but time to get serious and get back to eating well and wisely!

Today was my official weigh in and my commitment to sanity. I love everyone's input. We all have weight wishes - let's make them true this holiday season!

        Hi Everyone!
Hope your week is going well. The time change tends to throw me off. I'm trying to follow the strategy of having a daily 12-hour fast. For me, that means not eating between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. or between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.. So far, I'm managing to not eat until 8:00 a.m., but I'm struggling a bit. I know I'm better off to get up earlier and get in some form of exercise before eating. I just need to stay strong and make it happen. I know that in the past, I've been rewarded by getting in some exercise early. It seems to set a good tone for the day.

I joined a gym a few months ago. In my experience, it's typical for gyms to pipe in music over speakers. I'm a bit goofy (and a bit ADD) in that I have a hard time screening out noise (including music) that I find annoying. For the first few months, the music wasn't extremely loud and some days I even liked it when they played some rock music/alternative rock (something with a good beat and motivational).

For the last 4-6 weeks, they have piped in loud rap music all the time. I hate it so much. A few rap tunes are okay, but not "all rap, all the time" I usually bring in noise-counseling headphones and try and listen to my own choice of noise, but I'm not successful with filtering out the rap to an acceptable noise level.

I think the staff generally decides on the music. One day, I asked a staff member to turn down the music, but it was only turned down for a couple of minutes and then was turned back up. Currently, I'm focusing on cardio. They have a "Cinema Room" with only cardio equip. Sometime, I use the equipment in there. The cinema sound can get rather loud, with some action flicks, but it seems to be much less annoying for me.

Just wondering what others experience at their gym. I'm contemplating wearing some ear plugs. Wondering if there is some way to combine ear plugs with noise-canceling headphones. (so I can listen to something I like, as well as do a better job of cancelling out the rap)

Let's make it to one-der-land together! I keep reminding myself that it's never going to be easier than now. I just have to keep with the reality check. Arthritis, aging and excess weight are a recipe for misery.

I've observed a situation with a neighbor a few doors down from me. She is very overweight. She fell and broke one ankle, then during the rehab process she fell and broke the other ankle. She is still in a wheel chair, long after most people would have recovered. I'm beginning to wonder if she will ever get out of the wheel chair.

Your job offer sounds exiting. I hope things work out for the best for you and your boyfriend and that you get your health care situation resolved.

I'm glad your training for the 5K is improving. I think several of us share a challenge with snacking this time of year. I know that the shorter days have an impact on me. I've got to fill the long dark evenings with something other than food.

I live in California. I can identify with what you are going through with your weather. We had recent heat wave, where regions exchanged temps. The areas with cooler temps got the triple digit temps, and the regions where triple digits were common, got the cooler temps.

Good to see you in the challenge. I hope you enjoyed your vacation. You aren't alone with the nighttime eating urge. I've been contemplating posting a pledge, on the nights when I struggle. I'm always glad when I don't succumb to evening snacks, but the temptation can be overwhelming at this time of year.

:welcome: to all the newcomers!

        --------------------------------

Riestrella: That is good advice to keep in mind! Easier said than done, of course, but so are many other things in life...lol. I will have to try to ease up on my Virgoan nature, let some of my self-antagonizing and disappointment go, and try to remind myself that I am back and working at it again instead of letting myself keep gaining like I have done many times in the past. That's the most important part.

munchey: The gym I went to before we moved across country didn't play music over their speakers, so it wasn't an issue there. I haven't been to the gym here on our new post yet, so I'm not sure what they do there....I am sorry that your gym is so loud, though! I know the music probably pumps a lot of people up, but you'd think they would play a little bit of everything to inspire people that love and get worked up via other genres. Plus, even though I like some hip-hop while working out, I completely agree with you that too much of one genre would get boring and less effective in keeping me "pumped up" over time. I would call in one time when you're not there and ask if they'd be willing to switch up their playlists a little, and hopefully, if enough requests are put in, they will actually take it seriously and consider it. Good luck! Let us know if it gets any better. I will even call the gym too if you want me to, so it is more than one person requesting new music...lol. And, yes! I have experienced a lot of human yo-yoing over the years, as well.

Gemini6: I agree...I think we will all kick some serious booty for this challenge!! :cheer3:

        Welcome Kmay86 and JessJoy!

Kmay86: Did you enter the name "Krista" on the spreadsheet? If so, we need to change it to your logon ID. That way, we can more easily identify with who is who, when it comes to stats. Some people like to sign off their posts with their real name, or add it to their profile in some way. Feel free to do those things.

        opheliaphoenix:
Thanks for your input regarding the loud gym rap music. I'm probably going to have so say something about it. If it doesn't change soon, I'll likely have a day when I can't stand it any longer, lol.

        Gemini6:
I rarely skip breakfast, just try to go with the "12 hour fast" logic. Some days I make it, sometimes I' off by an hour or less. I'm sure I borrowed the phrase "It's never going to get easier than now" from someone in the fitness jandra. (Don't remember who said it, but I can't take credit). Have you tried melatonin to help with sleep? I empathize with you regarding sleep problems. I've had my share of problems. The root cause can be varied. Sometime, I think it's a hormonal/metabolic problem, sometimes it relates to bothersome aches and pains and then there are "sleep hygiene" issues (light from electronic devices, too much stimulation before bedtime)

I believe melatonin has helped me, as well as some other supplements. Insomnia really sucks. Adequate sleep is so important and plays a part in weight loss success.

        HEY EVERYONE!
I've added a Weigh-In Sheet to our spreadsheet notebook for the challenge. I'll be back to offer information and clarification.

Hope everyone is having a good week and that we each have a little less of of us to report, when it comes to weight.

        munchey 11-10-2017 12:09 AM

I've added a tab to the spreadsheet notebook for the 11-12-17 Weigh-In. It looks like the example below. There will be a new weigh-in sheet each week. All you have to do is enter a weight in the one field. Once you enter a weight, the "Pounds Lost" and "Percent Lost" fields will populate correctly.

The Weekly Weigh-In Sheets will feed into the Stat Sheet.

Tee, Hee! Where do you find these little gems? I Have inherited my son's two year old orange tabby. He is a large cat and while active, likes his food bowl a bit too much(disturbingly familiar!). He use to be a house cat but now he can go outside. His underbelly is a bit jiggly and I so hope he doesn't grow into a garfield.

He is a large cat and while active, likes his food bowl a bit too much(disturbingly familiar!). He use to be a house cat but now he can go outside. His underbelly is a bit jiggly and I so hope he doesn't grow into a garfield.

I think normal weight cats can get a bit jiggly in the under carriage, as they age. I guess they deal with gravity, just like us. I used to have an orange tabby cat that I called Morey.

I started collecting GIF graphics a few years ago. I have an account at Photobucket and have them categorized in various albums. As time has marched on, your can "Google" and find GIF's for about anything. I guess it's the "kid" in me, that I have a bit of fun with the graphics. Black and white gets boring for me - got to jazz things up, LOL

        friends!

I started to write in my weight today only to realize that it's Friday. Tomorrow is my birthday so I was going to check in early, but not that early! :dizzy: TOM appeared on Wednesday after skipping a month. My cycle is typically clockwork but I'm perimenopause age so I wasn't completely shocked when I didn't have one last month. I've also skipped cycles when I'm under heavier than usual stress which I was last month. We'll see what the future brings. :dunno: Due to it's appearance my weight is up 2 pounds by today's scale reading.

        Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

        Curvynotlumpy:
Have a great birthday! Remember, you can decide if you want to coast this week, with last week's weight. Other than a beginning weight and a finish weight for the challenge, it's up to you. Do whatever is a good motivator for you.

        Grazier
Sounds like you are making steps in the right direction. My activity has been down this week as well. Looks like we both have opportunities for the week ahead.

        Huckle
Hang in there. All steps in the right direction will add up. Hope the next few days and subsequent week go well for you.

Just a reminder. You will enter your weight on the spreadsheet tab that says "11-12-17 Weigh-In" - NOT the stat sheet. The weekly weigh-in sheet will feed into the Stat Sheet (where your entered your starting weight).

You need to enter a weight, but you may choose to NOT weigh, and carry forward the weight from your last weigh-in. You have to weigh for the final week, but you can decide how often you weigh until then. If you don't weigh on a given week, you still must make an entry on the weigh-in sheet (your weight from the last recorded weigh-in.

Hi all - I had a better first week than I had thought, must have been the willpower dust!:carrot::carrot:

What a great team! I like that so many of us have the same goal ... to get to ONEderland.

I am still struggling to get back to losing and I am up a little bit. My eating has been less restrictive and I like to switch to maintenance now and then, but I need to get back to weight loss!

Munchey: I'm on my phone and unable to see the different tabs. Could you do me a huge favor and log in 135.8 lb for this week for me? Much appreciated!

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

I made the entry. Congrats on your loss - 3.2 lbs! Awesome!

Hello, everyone! Checking in at 226.2 for the first follow-up weigh in...which means I am 4 lbs down, even. Considering we had birthday celebrations for my husband both on Friday and yesterday, I am happy that I was able to keep on track!

Sending out love and some more :dust: to everyone for the upcoming week!

Nothing wrong with a "maintenance break". Sometimes, there can be benefits from that action. I'm sure you will get back into "loss mode" soon.
