'Ello all you monthly exercise challenge peeps! Man, I have missed this thread. A special hello to Joy who keeps us going each month. I have been a bit busy with trying to find a job lately that I haven't been posting to the forum but that doesn't mean I have fallen off the wagon of my workouts or fitness. I have dropped another 11 pounds for a total of *thinks for a moment* 77 pounds lost since January 2nd. Hoo-Raa!!
I know it's a little late to join in the challege thread but i know everyone is so nice and will squeeze me in surely. I am sticking to my 6 workouts a week, rain or shine. I hope everyone is having a great summer and keep working hard and stick with it! |

Jacqui, surely there's another way? A cell phone or wrist watch? Pick which hours on the hour you plan to stand up?

Jacqui_D: I'm glad you're finding a new solution. I use pomodoros to help me focus on work -- and then get up every 25 minutes during the breaks. Here's some info: Pomodoro Technique.
I rarely get over 8000 steps unless I walk for 30 or 40 minutes. Yesterday, I only walked 20 minutes and got nearly 10,000 steps -- lots of errands and running around! Thanks for that site Joy! As of right now, I simply have my tv (turned way down low because I don't watch tv during the day) set on a station that has half hour shows, and when I see a new show coming on, I stand up. A kitchen timer would be great. An alarm clock on the other side of the room might be even better. Then I'd have to get up to go turn it off! :D

Seven months after losing my brother to leukemia, I need to get back into shape (advanced hip osteoarthritis is taking its toll on me). My goal is 1500 minutes of exercise in any form (swimming, biking, machine, yoga). Yes, I do think the water exercise (especially in our apartment pool which is shallow and gets full sunlight much of the day, so it is often over 90 degrees) has been helpful for the arthritis. I always end my pool workout with leg lifts to the side and front and back for range of motion. And walking through chest deep water is good for building up the leg muscles, but not painful. I will miss the pool when it closes for the winter. But by then it will be cool enough to ride my bike without getting sweaty helmet hair. The bike doesn't hurt like like walking does. Now that I met goal, I will confess that I accidentally set it much higher than I planned. I was thinking I could average a half hour a day, which would be an hour in two days, and I thought with about 30 days in a month that 15 hours in a month would be a good goal. But I was too fast and careless, and didn't stop to think each hour has 60 minutes, (NOT 100 minutes) when I wrote my goal. When I realized my mistake, I didn't want to admit it, so I decided I would really work hard to get those extra minutes and actually reach 1500. A local yoga studio is offering a 80-minute class for school employees once a week for $10 a session. I might go to one and see if I can still do yoga. For now I will see how many more minutes I can get this month. |
