  • Ariannag: I notice you were doing better earlier in the month when you weighed every day. Would that help now? It makes a world of difference for me. I know, because I so frequently don't follow my own advice! And, I definitely do better when I'm weighing daily.

    MarinaBrasil: Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in November (so November 27 this year). For many of us it's a 4-day weekend focused on eating and shopping. This year, I'm going to try to make it about family, friends, and gratitude.

  • Joy, your weight "gain" converts into .3 lbs if my math is correct.. and 1/3 lb is nothing to be concerned about at all, well within range of normal weight fluctuations. I am surprised it caused you a second look. At any rate, I sure would not give it a second thought at all.

    I was doing fine yesterday, @ 5:30 pm still only 450 calories ate and not a bit hungry. THEN.... after cooking two cups brown rice which I intended to put all in the freezer except for a bag to use in the frig. THEN.... I decided to convert some of it into browned rice which I absolutely love but is hard to stay out of. As I would take some finished rice out of the skillet, place it on a plate to cool before bagging it, I had to take a pinch of it. And then I took another pinch. Then that pinch took a pinch. Then the pinches just started rolling. By the time I finished browning that big pot of rice, some 1385 calories plus plus about 200 calories of olive oil used in cooking it... there was no more browned rice left to pinch. And my calorie intake had risen some 1585 additional calories up to 2370!! Today, up 2 lbs. OH WELL! It is not going to bother me in the least except for figuring out a way of handling that browned rice next time I make it. I think the best way will to not try browning it in advance, just what I want to eat of it at a time. Anyway....

    I will work most of that off today working in the garden shoveling and building so no biggie.

    Up a bit this morning (.6) so I'm at 238.2. I drank a lot of water and I seem bloated today. Hoping the clears up so I won't be blah.

  • Hi all!

    I realize there are only a few days left in November, but would you all mind if I joined you now? I've had some serious weight gain the last few months and need to get myself moving now, but I'm also low on discipline to reach my goals. May I join in now and continue in to Dec rather than waiting the last 5 days out?

    By the end of the month I'm hoping to have lost a pound (138).

  • Serious weight gain...don't be so hard on yourself.
    We all have different setpoints and mindsets.
    I don't weigh everyday or count calories, so my leash is alot longer for running around and smelling the wreathes.

    Relax and have a nice Thanksgiving.

    So, we have this thing at work over the holidays called Maintain don't gain, you get points for healthy things, like keeping a food journal, exercising, eating fruits, veggies and whole grains, quiet time for meditation/prayer, spending time outdoors, with family not in front of the TV, etc. it's from Nov to Jan, so just thought I'd share, it's helped me the last couple years not to gain so much, even lose a couple last year. Just keeping track like we do here.

    Anyway, this brings to mind, most gain 7-10 pounds over the holidays, so if you maintain or only gain a pound or so you're ahead of the game. Also, another tip I like to try and keep in the front of my mind, from WW, is to be as good as you can when you can, get back on your plan the next meal instead of the next day or next week...every little bit helps

  • Kelijpa....I like your office plan. We really need our sense of humor during the holidays. It sure beats having someone or There are so many who have a difficult, emotional time ....we need to look up and look at those who appear down, give them a smile, pat on the back or big squeeze.
