WOW New Year!! New Me!! Challenge

This is our last challenge of 2011! Taking us into 2012 and resolution time!

For any newbies, the traditional copy and paste:

Women on... WHAT??

Okay, let me explain that "Women on WEED" is not what you might be thinking. During previous challenges, a group of us formed a great bond, and we've been challenge buddies ever since. We use the word "WEED" as a mnemonic device to set daily goals, an easy and very specific way to remind yourself during your day to take care of your body, and to nurture your Mind, Mouth and Muscles... it really does help. After all, we are all taking this a day at a time, right?

If you join this challenge, you will see it often - and you are encouraged to give it a try. Here's what it stands for:

W - Water intake. Set a daily goal for how much water you're going to drink. Although there is conflicting research as to how much to actually consume in a day, we all agree it is important to drink lots to stay healthy. So make it a goal!

E - Exercise. Efficient, healthy weight loss isn't going to happen unless you incorporate some kind of physical activity in your life. Everyone does it differently; some go to the gym, some work out at home, and some find ways to sneak in little bits of exercise all throughout the day. Set yourself a goal, even if it's small. Little bits done often WILL add up over time!

E - Eats. Being that we all have different eating plans and weight loss philosophies, this is sort of a wild card. Whatever plan you're on, set yourself a plan-appropriate daily eating goal for the day. Don't forget to make it specific!

D - Daily goal/Daily affirmation. This is another wild card. It doesn't even have to be weight-loss related! This is the spot where you list something you want to get accomplished. Or, you can use "D" for a a daily affirmation - it's an opportunity to say something good and positive about yourself. Sometimes, when we fall short - and we ALL do sometime - we are tempted to berate ourselves. Although it's good to recognize when we don't reach our goals, it's also good to remind ourselves of the awesome parts of ourselves. So go ahead and remind yourself of that in the "D" part of WEED.

Well here it is! Jump right in, tell us about yourselves, your goals, your home lives, your healthy plan, etc. We LOVE newbies! And we LOVE our regulars! Welcome back!

mothermavis 11-26-2011 08:29 AM

OK my friends, miss you all, so here is our thread to get us to the rest of the year. I plan on getting a real head start on my 2012 fitness goals thru the end of the year so that I am ready to hit the ground running in 2012. Hope we are all able to refocus on us!!

Mother Mavis-drawn from an old nickname.
I am 45, the very proud mother of 2 college students. A wife, daughter, daughter in law and like all of us, pulled in way 2 many directions. Struggling to carve out time in my day for me.

I want to follow those ladies who have that monniker about " A year from now, you'll be glad you started today" I can't seem to stick with it and I know that has to be where I get to in order to see success!! Way upped my Vitamin D and trying to sort out the menopause thing. I'll get there

My goal thru the holidays is to get to 150, I was there just a few weeks back, not trying to lose a bunch right now, if I can just get to 150 and stick thru New Years, that would be fine.

W 100 oz a day!
E Something everyday, restarting C25K, alternating dreadmill and elliptical on non-running days. Worry about weights after January, just gonna get the cardio back on track. Pedometer went back on yesterday, got almost 12k steps!
E WW, it works, just gotta do it
D Trying to dig out of the depression, gonna get there too.

tavvy 11-26-2011 11:50 AM

Hi Mother Mavis!
I'd love to join this challenge! I have had tremendous trouble in the past actually following through and am part of a few groups on here which has helped a lot! But there is always room for more inspiration!

Tavvy: My name is Tabatha, in school everyone used to call me Tabby. My married last name starts with a V so I subbed the "b"s for "v"s because tabby is rarely available and tavvy is never taken.

I am 22, a newly wed (as of April), have two dogs (toby and katie) and a cat (zimba), work full-time as a nanny, and we are currently in the process of picking and building our first home :)

My goal before the new year is to be under 255 and for my workouts to be more of a habit and less of a burden!

W: 81+ oz a day
E: P90x everyday! On weight training days I will add a dance or kickboxing video to get more cardio into my schedule.
E: Low-carb diet (less than 100 carbs, more than 100 proteins)
D: Take all things one day at a time! Keep the end results in mind but do not lose patience in getting there!

Look forward to getting to know everyone! Only 36 days to the new year :)

Dharma420 11-26-2011 12:09 PM

Hi there, I am new to 3FC and have been lurking for a week or two. I like the WEED concept and would love to share in this. I'm 43 years old. I'm at 162 this morning. I did Jillian Michaels at the beginning of this year and got down to 147, but an emergency surgery slowed things down a bit. And a million other excuses...starting college again etc. I have always been a little chunky in the butt which bothered me, but now all of a sudden I have a flabby belly...I mean like over a few months it has developed when my whole life it has been my best feature flat and small waist. Now Im losing my curves and I want them back. I also love the way I feel when Im in shape.
Evening eating is my biggest issue. And a glass of wine will make me crave snacks. Gotta find something to keep me occupied before bed. I can't go to bed at 6pm everynight to avoid the food.

So here goes:
W: 80 oz a day
E: 5 miles of something everyday minimum. (I usually do way more but this is a must)
E: try to cut out the carbs and sodium. Up the protein and eat more often to boost metabolism
D: I am what God says I am. Not defined by anyone else.

Off to the gym now. :)

mothermavis 11-26-2011 06:44 PM

Welcome Tavvy and Dharma!

Dharma, loved that show! Not sure, but we could be twins, I am a couple years older, but the weight, the surgery, the wine...all the same!

Tavvy, congrats on the marriage! Love to hear about the new house (I sell real estate, so always like to hear the good and the bad for ideas!)

Celebrating my son's birthday, so will be back later to chat more!

Dharma420 11-27-2011 09:54 AM

So I was doing some surfing for fat answers last night...we all do it :o And I read that alcohol can actually slow down you metabolism up to 73% yikes! I was having trouble figuring out how alcohol could be so bad for weight loss when the calories arn't that bad in some drinks. But, when you think about alcohol as a chemical overall...why do we drink that stuff ? LOL So it's got me rethinking the wine thing seriously. I can live without it, but it has really been nice to come home to after a few rough months.

About my belly flab....could this be from the depo shot?? I researched that too and it does increase your appetite but I only found one person (perhaps on this forum, can't remember) who said it was directly related to belly fat. I really want to stay on it as I have no periods and I feel really good now. A miserable period will make me eat and lay around dooming my weightloss too.

I did good with the water yesterday, got my workout in...8+ miles running and biking, and ate well until the 3pm monster and that glass of wine got me eating french bread with cheese for dinner. (THUD)

Hows things with you girls?

Hugs!
Dharma

Neesy_20 11-27-2011 10:08 AM

Hello Everyone, I'll join ya. I've been stuck around my current weight for the past two years. I really started back, focusing and eating right , about 6 weeks ago. I'm not losing weight as quickly as I did before. I was use to losing a pound every day or so. Now its gonna take a week to get one pound off.... which sucks. But, I'm focused and determined and will get to my goal by summer if it kills me. lol

W: 80 oz a day
E- 3-4 miles
E-1500 calories
D-If you want something bad enough, you'll do whatever it takes.

mothermavis 11-27-2011 12:05 PM

Morning all! Refrained from overindulging in triple chocolate cake last night, did take a sliver but that was it! Now, today, back to college for my boys and all the food trash is going in the trash! No junk to tempt me.

Dharma, I have to say that made me think too. I am going to try and forgo the alcohol at home, limit it to a glass of wine at the Christmas parties etc and see if that makes a difference thru til the New Year. All the stress in my life makes me grab a drink or two almost every night. Have to stop.

Neesy, welcome!

I had to run & pick up YS's new computer today. If you are using a laptop without a fan, stop! We had to buy a new computer because the processor fried on the old one and the computer guy said it was from him using it on the bed in the dorm without the bottom being able to breathe. I learned an expensive lesson! But, he has to go back to college and needs to be able to write his papers, so....there you go

Off to put up the outside lights. We have snow on the ground, but it's about 45 today, so not likely to get a better day to do it!

W 100 is the plan
E Treadmill a little later
E Points! Don't go over!
D Enjoy the little things. Find a great calorie free holiday treat.

Dharma420 11-27-2011 03:40 PM

well, so far today I'm:

W: 2/3 to my water goal.
E: I did 10 miles combined running, hill climbing and biking.
E: writing down my calories and making decent choices so far
D: I know I have everything I need to suceed in me and so do you!

If you need me I'll be hiding from the afternnoon evil that makes me eat and drink

Tabbycat 11-27-2011 07:55 PM

Hi y'all! I'd like to join in!

I'm in my mid-fifties and I'm an old maid school-marm teaching third grade. Every summer I lose about 15 pounds, but every school year I gain it back. This year I want to KEEP IT OFF!

Over the summer I went from 145 t0 130 by following (loosely) the Mediterranean Diet and swimming laps almost every day in the apartment pool. Now it's too cold to swim, even here on the Texas coast, so I have switched to jogging. But I can't do it every day... it makes my knees and back hurt if I do.

There is a 5K at church in March. Last year I finished in 42 minutes. This year I want to be under 40, maybe even 38 minutes.

W: 64+ ounces
E: 2-mile jogs or use exercise machine
E: whole grains, cut back on candy and cookies
D: Time for my workouts should be a priority!

Annie

Sum38 11-27-2011 08:04 PM

W 72 oz
E walk 3 times per week 3.5 miles at a time
E eat at least 1 pound of veggies each day
D pay more attention to my hard working husband :)

mothermavis 11-27-2011 08:28 PM

Welcome Annie and Sun!!

Sun, love the veggie goal!!

Annie, just restarted C25k myself. I am with you, cannot run every day, but I am going to try and run every other day and use the elliptical on the others!

My boys went back to college today. :( I miss them when they are gone, but only a few weeks and they will be home for a nice long break!!

PS: Got my exercise and my food goals today. Now trying to finish my water!!

mothermavis 11-28-2011 08:12 AM

Tavvy, do you like p90x? I have been thinking about it. Also thinking of Zumba for the WII, so everybody, please tell me what you have for home that you like.

Today is my day to finish my Christmas decorations. I am on vacation this week and planned to finish decorating and most of my shopping this week, but, my older son has given me no ideas yet....

w 100 oz today
e elliptical, may do "just dance' too
e pop, d2
d celebrate little victories

Sophieeex3 11-28-2011 08:59 AM

Simply want to feel good when going out on New Years for the first time in ages. I hope to hit 180 lbs by the New Years :).
W: 64 oz daily ( 16 oz are green tea)
E: Alternate between "Cardio Days" and "Weights Days". Cardio days will consist of cardio workouts twice a day, 30 minutes running or elliptical in the morning and afternoon, or a Gym/ Dance class. Weights days will consist of a weight training session, and a pilates workout before bed time.
E: High Fiber and High Protein, Low Carb. Only Whole grain carbs before 2 in the afternoon. Unlimited amount of lean proteins. A lot of lentils, veggies, and salads. Only fat sources will be avocados, olive oil, and low fat greek yogurt. No eating after 7 PM.
D: Each Day I will weight myself and strive to be less than I was the day before. Every oz will be a celebration. Everyday I will strive to be better than the other day, and each Day I will see it as a day closer to my Ultimate Goal Weight!!! :D

mtiger 11-29-2011 07:16 AM

Hey, hey!! Look at all the action here. Welcome to all the new people. We have been looking for some new blood to join our little group.

I am Mindy, 51 and also a newlywed as of April. Talk about life altering. I have to children 23 and 26 that live with me. Lots of animals and then the whole pack of children that I spend my days with at school. Talk about stress...

I have lost 70 pounds over the past 4 years or so. I have been stuck where I'm at for about 2 of those years. My body seems to be very comfortable with 181 these days. I want to lose about 30 more pounds but am meeting some ery strong resistence. For the rest of the season I just want to maintain. Then after the first really focus on losing some more ugly fat.

I ahve come a long way and people tell me to be proud of my accomplishments. I try, but it is hard when Iam not happy where I am. Maybe it requires starvation. Who knows.

Well we are supposed to get a ton of snow here......hello old man winter.

mothermavis 11-29-2011 07:36 AM

Thin, I love that. Onederland for you by NYE! What a great goal!!!!

Leonea, are you training for a specific marathon? When is it? Is this your first?
I am tossing in my head the Walt Disney World marathon next year. Gives me a whole year to prep and there is a 10 mile run here in July that I have been eyeballing for a few years too.

Mindy, I am with you, you know I am. I am trying to keep my nose to the grindstone and really be honest with everything I eat AND to get my exercise every day. I have a feeling that it may not come off as easy as it once did, but, if I both eat right and exercise at the same time, it will come off! :dancer: PS: Please keep the snow there, northern NY is gorgeous right now.

Khumphrey, bathing suit is a powerful motivator!

CountryB, what are you studying in college?

Dharma, love that "D"

W 100
E C25K back to the start-back to say, starting over on week 2 to see how the knees do. W2D2 done, threw out 2 old pair of sneakers too because I think they are part of my problem!
E POP again
D Got my Christmas tree all done. Now to finish the rest of the decorations!

Dharma420 11-29-2011 08:57 AM

Good morning everyone!

So scale #1 says...I'm down 3 lbs to 159 scale #2 says I'm down 5 lbs to 157. I know your wonder why I'm weighing on two scales right? Well, we have two and I'm trying to figure out which one is a crappy big fat liar. I'm really hoping it is scale #1 :D

I did good with the food and no wine again last night tho I maybe ate about 1/4 cup more spaghetti than I should have, but no real disaster and still at about 1200 calories.

So, for today

W: 5 16oz bottles
E: Rest Day
E: 1200 calories of nutritious healthy food. Low carbs and lots of veggies
D: Just cuz the bird flies over your head doesn't mean you have to let it make a nest in your hair.

Have a great Tuesday everybody!

Countrybarbie24 11-29-2011 03:12 PM

I am going to school for phlebotomy and medical office assistant.

Well I weigh in today and I have gained 3lbs since last week weigh in and I dont like it. My bf said when I loose 30 pounds he buy me a new oufit I cant wait so now that mean I have to loose 33lbs I am hoping to loose 10lbs by NYE that mean I will only need to loose 23lbs more in order to get my new outfit. I get a new car when I loose 100 pounds so I cant wait instead of rewarding myself with food I am rewarding it with things I need. Those things are my motivation and also getting to be in onederland will be the most amazing reward ever

SW--- 279
NYE GW--- 270

11/29--- 282

W: I haven't had any today yet :(
E: boxing and cardio
E: 1200 calories of nutritious healthy food.
D: Tell me I cant do it and I will show you how much more I can achieve.

Tabbycat 11-29-2011 09:14 PM

Tabbycat reporting in!

W: I don't think I drank enough during the day. I'll try to polish off a 16-oz bttle before bed.
E: Today I jogged two miles (non-stop). It took 25 minutes.
E: Not bad. But a slice of cake at a co-worker's birthday lunch.
D: If I don't feel like exercising, I will commit to do it for "just five minutes." If I still dont want to after five minues, I give mysel permission to stop. (But I always decide to keep going.)

Thinsole 11-29-2011 10:09 PM

Tabbycat- Congrats on the 2 mile run! I love your D.

Countrybarbie- I always gain the first week I really try to lose weight. Then I have a scale plummet the next week. Hopefully you get your woosh on the scale next week too!

Dharma- I love you D. I am also convinced that every scale is a big fat crappy liar. Some just lie less than others.

Mavis- Do it! Do it do it do it do it!! Ok, so I'm a big fat chicken and refuse to think about a marathon until I do a half marathon, which I will do after I finish my 10 training. But you should totally do it! That is a great goal and the 10 miler in July is an awesome half-way point.

mtiger- I am also in Michigan and suffering from snow. As I look out my window right now, the grass is covered, the patio is covered, and :censored: my car is covered. I am so not ready for this.

W-80 oz (60 down)
E- Did light knee exercises and took a 2 mile walk
E- Below 1800 cal
D- Onderland, onderland, onderland. Stupid pounds get off me.

I called around my area today looking for a gym. The cheapest one I found is about $40 a month but that's with access to all the fun classes. Considering...but it's not a huge town and it's about the only gym so I'm betting if I do sign up I'll bump into people I know. Not sure how I feel about that...

Thinsole 11-29-2011 10:28 PM

Hey peoples. Just wanted to add in that on the W.O.W Thanksgiving challenge I lost over 18 pounds! Woot!

12 weeks= 18 pounds.

Nixmom 11-29-2011 11:21 PM

Back in the saddle... again.

Mindy, Mavie - got room for an ole WEEDER?

I need you! I made my self subscribe to the thread before I even came to post! I miss you girls. I miss this place and I need to get back to some support that I can count on... so... TAA DAA!:carrot::carrot::carrot:

I have been gone a while. Job changed (promotion) and I seriously landed myself on the verge of a meltdown. Landed in counseling. Gained 15lbs in 3 weeks (August) and stressed out and lost 20 in the next 3. NOT A HEALTHY PLAN!

I have returned to the gym couple weeks ago. Started C25K and am doing each week twice. So, gonna reconnect here. Get back to basics and am seriously looking forward to meeting the newbies and  my old virtual friends.

Here's tomorrow:
W- 64oz (so hard when its cold - I love me some coffee!)
E - 30 minutes tread - chest and triceps
E - STAY OUT OF THE DONUTS AND CANDY! Get back on 6Week diet
D - Dont waste another day, another minute, another opportunity.

Lets go sistah chicks! Off to learn about everyone! 2nd post on the way!

Nixmom 11-29-2011 11:44 PM

Dharma – LOVE YOUR “D” from 11/26/11. You’ve nailed it! I have a crutch too afterlong days of craziness – nicotine. Andtalk about chemicals. I have beenbattling on and off for years. I feelyour pain – or need to kill it J

Neesy – You are not alone with the 2 years of hovering atthe same weight. But slow and steadydoes win the race. I’m in it with you to celebrate one pound down a week.Whatever it takes.

mothermavis 11-30-2011 08:01 AM

Morning all! Hope everyone is having a great day!

Kris!!! Welcome back! I've missed you!! So glad you are doing C25K. I am redoing it as well, trying to get refocused and re-energized. As far as the thread, no, I am not maintaining that new Monday thread that we used to do, just using the same one for each challenge. I will switch when we get to New Years Day and start a new one then as long as that's OK with everyone?

Thin, 18 pounds is awesome!!!!!! You rock!!!

CountryB, sounds like a good profession to get into. Good for you!

W 100 oz
E today is elliptical and I keep forgetting my pedometer, try to remember 10k steps***elliptical done!!!

mtiger 11-30-2011 11:08 AM

Kris--Love ya babe!!! And I am so glad you are back. Let's do this thing!!!!

Got my workout in this morning at 5:00 am. Shoveling about 8 inches of snow from my extremely long driveway. My son was stuck at the end and hubbie needed to get out about 5:oo so we were all out shoveling. FUN, FUN!!! My hubbie is obsessed with Arizona and wanting to move there. HHMM???

Even after all that, this body is still stuck at 181ish. Also did kickboxing on Monday. What does it take???

mothermavis 11-30-2011 11:50 AM

Thin, I just checked, the applications for those races are not up yet. But, I am going to sign up when they are to force me to move forward.

khumphrey 11-30-2011 05:49 PM

W: for the past three days I have had around 80 - 100 oz. each day.
E: Monday 60 minutes of Zumba, Tuesday 50 mminutes of a boot camp work out which kicked my butt (my arms hurt), and today 40 minutes of taebo, and 20 minutes of Zumba.
E: Still sticking to my low carb diet which works for me
D: What doesn't kill you (working out) only makes you stronger.

I am doing it and I feel so much better when I workout everyday.

Good Luck Everyone!

Thinsole 11-30-2011 07:03 PM

W- 80 oz (only 20 so far but have hit it the past few days)
E- Arm work, 1 mile walk
E- 1500-1800 cal
D- Remember the feeling of going to pat your hip and realizing there was a lot less there than before.

Mavis- Good for you! That's the only way I can see to get myself to push myself is by signing up for stuff that's non-refundable, lol.

Khumphrey- Way to go on the workouts!

mtiger- I was lucky enough to only get an inch of snow so my shoveling wasn't even a workout. Is it sick that I'm slightly disappointed by that? Having to go out and shovel any driveway of any snow at 5 in the flippin morning is cruel and should automatically be worth a one pound advantage.

Wish I could say I lost a pound after all that shoveling but all I got for my efforts was an aching back and shoulders. OUCH!!! Of course the mexican dinner last night probly didnt help much. Well back to work today and good sensible eating. Hopefully tonight I can work on Christmas decorating.

Mindy, I love Mexican, but can't resist the margarita with salt. Always blow up after I eat there. :D

Thin, the D makes me smile!

KH, Spot on, I feel so much better after I work out and when I eat right. Not sure why I have so much trouble staying the course when I know how great it makes me feel. Weird, should be so easy.

I have to go back to work Monday, so will have less time to post, but am working hard at carving out time to exercise. Thinking I will get up 1/2 hours earlier two days a week to run on the treadmill. Then the others I will work in the elliptical? We'll have to tweak as we go.

w 100
e day 3 week 2****DONE Thinking may need to upgrade to DVR so I can watch the Young & the Restless on the treadmill. Have not watched that in 20 years and Victor, Nikki & Paul are all still there!
e pop, a bit of extra bread last night, but body must have needed it as scale was good to me today
d A year from now, you'll be glad you did not quit today

Mavis- liking the D. I usually run to back episodes of TBL or favorite movies when I run on the treadmill, never thought of watching a soap...it's been years.

W- 80 (DONE)
E- 20 min run & leg work (Done)
E- 1500-1800 cal. No snacking after work!!
D- 7 more pounds, just 7 more.

Hey ladies,

Just checking in. Had a rough couple days. I work for a local government agency. We just contracted out our trash hauling services after decades of performing them in-house and about 18 guys I have worked with for the last 12 years had their first day as employees of the new company. Needless to say, our facilities were eerily quite and the parking lots empty. Today was take over day, and I'm the boss. At least they all remained employed, but it still hits me right in the gut.

To top it off, my son (22) who came back home after 3 years of living away was "forced" to give his beautiful 6month old bullmastiff away today. She was soooo cute but just too much energy for being trapped in our house and we dont have a fenced yard. I miss her, and my son isn't speaking to me at the moment. But the house is peaceful again and there are no pee spots to detect with my socks.

So, I sold out my people and broke my son's heart all in the same day. You can imagine what my eating was like. I'll be better tomorrow. Just had to come cry on a shoulder. :?: Will focus on WEED tomorrow.

Tabbycat reporting:

W: Not sure if I am drinking as much as I said I want to, but all week I resisted buying a Coke at lunch and had ice water instead.

E: Dec 1 - 2 mile jog in 24 minutes

E: I managed to shop at Dollar Tree and NOT buy a box of Milk Duds. I just LOVE those Milk Duds but cannot have them in the house!

D: The first mouthful of fattening food is the only one I need, because the rest of them won't taste any batter than the first one, so I should just STOP after one bite.
