August Exercise Challenge

Let's move in August! The monthly exercise challenge thread begins with stating our goals for the month, and then continues with exercise logs as the month progresses.

State your exercise goals for the month of August here. They will be added to our goal list. When your goal is met, it gets turned RED in celebration! Track your progress all month long with a supportive and encouraging group to cheer you.

Our sister thread, August Weight Loss Challenge, is available for non-exercise weight loss goals. Join one or both threads and let's get moving!

I still won't have the official OK from my doc to return to exercise until Aug 15, but I'd like to join back up this month. :) For the first half of the month I'd like to get in at least 4 days of walking each week, and for the second half of the month I want to up my exercise to 5 days per week (and get back to some strength training!). So, for August my goal is to exercise a total of 20 days.

Thanks for keeping this challenge going month after month, gardenerjoy!

lene1974 07-31-2011 08:25 PM

ratc0353 07-31-2011 10:35 PM

Totally new to this forum, but my exercise goals are to do a workout video 3 times per week...ALL MONTH. When put into perspective...that's only 15 days, totally doable! (I'm one of those who will do 5 days the first week...and burn out). Goal this month is to start out steady...and maintain the momentum :)

PghGal 07-31-2011 11:35 PM

I've never done this before, but I'll give it a shot!! My goal is to hit the gym 20 days in August and complete a total of 800 minutes .... I think this is realistic for me. It will be tough to increase the number of days, but I am willing to commit to it. My hope is this challenge will help keep me accountable! :D

idiettomorrow 08-01-2011 12:10 AM

Sign me up! I am committed to all 30 days of 30 day shred and 10,000 steps 5 days/week!

PacSunMama 08-01-2011 04:47 AM

Starting week 4 of C25K today! Going to continue that (may repeat weeks as necessary)

Goal for August: Walk/Jog 60 miles!

yoyoma 08-01-2011 08:06 AM

I have a "walking desk" (plank on a treadmill). My goal is to use it an average of 2 hours per day for a total of 3720 minutes (I'm on it right now :) ).

mya 08-01-2011 08:32 AM

My goals for this month, every week:

1-Continue doing C25k 3 times
2-Do Ripped in 30 5 times
3-Burn above 3000 at least 5 days

Those are not easy, but quite achievable. I can do it!

shanhat81 08-01-2011 08:40 AM

Oooh, this is just what I need.

My goal:

30 minutes of real exercise 5 days/week
Body Pump twice a week

gardenerjoy 08-01-2011 11:58 AM

Updated on 8/4 :

So far so good! Have completed every other day.

SBD Sass 08-02-2011 11:19 AM

Again, not counting minutes. Focusing on missing ZERO days and keeping the intensity on the HIGH side for each workout.

1 - Cathe's Cardio Core Circuit (30 mins) + Cathe's Rhythmic Step (20 mins) + 10 Minute Solution Yoga (stretch & relaxtion workout - 10 mins)

nikkidee 08-02-2011 01:44 PM

ok im in. im new to this site - and just figured i better jump on in posting.

my goal this month is to do the 30 day shred with my husband. as i know we will be traveling, i am giving myself a couple days off from the video, but expect myself to still get out and moving on those couple of days.

so i guess (since apparently i havent already thought this through), i am hoping for lets call it 27 shred workouts

and three days of at least getting out and walking.

;o) good luck everyone!!

DZackery said: I would like to paticipate in a workout vid. Any recomendations?

For the easy days, I get a kick out of the Island Girl hula DVDs and they are always cheap on Amazon. A lot of folks on 3FC do Thirty Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. I have that and like it, but prefer the longer, gentler (but just as intense) workouts by Ellen Barrett. Walk Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone is another classic. I always think those are going to be too easy, but then I'll get one from the library and find that I'm wrong...

My log:
8/1: 50 min treadmill; 50/1300 min, 3/33 miles

zogo 08-02-2011 02:09 PM

I'm new to this thread and this site. I'm setting an August goal of 27 days of workouts leaving one day a week for rest/recovery. I'm currently at day 44 of P90X and mixing in some callanetics to focus on my lower body.

ratc0353 08-02-2011 09:54 PM

As far as workout DVDs, Jillian Michaels is great--but very intense. The Firm Sculpt series is more expensive, and a little old school, but wow is it good for strength training--it does require special equipment though. Looking for something different, I just bought Zumba DVDs...and so far, I love them :) Lots of fun...!

gardenerjoy 08-03-2011 12:35 PM

chickadee32 08-06-2011 02:05 PM

Aug 1 - 1.5 mile walk outside
Aug 2 -
Aug 3 - Kayaking
Aug 4 -
Aug 5 - Kayaking
Aug 6 - 2.5 mile walk outside

I was away on vacation this week and was active every day in the water, but the walks and kayaking are the only things I can truly count as exercise. Today's 2.5 mile walk was the furthest I've walked at one time since my surgery, and I really felt pretty good. :) I see the doctor on Tuesday and hopefully will get the all-clear to return to all my regular exercise!

nikkidee 08-07-2011 01:04 AM

Nice ladies.

Chickadee, i love kayaking and wish i had someone here to go out to the lake to do it with. It freakin burns my arms!

I accompished another shred today making me 6/27.
In addition, the hubs was updating my tablet and doing other geeky stuff, so i did 10 min toning video for abs, and a 10 min toning video for arms. He still wasnt done so i did a 30 min yog for healing video i found on netflix. So i seriously got my workout on today.
But i needed it after the amount of food i ate last nite!

I plan to work out tomorrow as well... But with church and family thing, probably wont check in til monday. Til then, good luck everyone. Keep it up!

chickadee32 08-07-2011 08:45 PM

Aug 1 - 1.5 mile walk outside
Aug 2 -
Aug 3 - Kayaking
Aug 4 -
Aug 5 - Kayaking
Aug 6 - 2.5 mile walk outside
Aug 7 - 2.5 mile walk outside

Nikkidee: I wish we'd had another kayak so that I could have gone with someone as well. It's definitely more fun (and I'm more apt to stay out longer) with a partner. Funny that you mention getting your workout in while your husband was doing "geeky stuff" - my husband is an IT guy and sometimes he wants company when he has to go to a client office late at night or on the weekends, and so I'll go with him and do all manner of no-equipment-needed exercises (wall pushups, squats, lunges, stretching, etc.) while he fixes the server or whatever. It's a good way to fill the time!

zogo 08-07-2011 10:45 PM

It is really nice to see the exercise days adding up on this thread. I feel like I am actually accomplishing something. Thanks for being here ladies!

Matilda08 08-08-2011 12:52 PM

nikkidee 08-09-2011 11:36 PM

nice chicadee! since youve been doing so well this month on modified exercise, maybe youll really start seeing some serious poundage gone with "real" (whatever that means) exercise!!

ladies ... i decided to move up to the second level of the jillian michaels 30 day shred today. it was my 9th workout today, so technically, i should still do two more in the first section, but i felt like i was ready.
holy smokes! she kicked my A!

i did not want to work out. im all down in the dumps today, and just having one of those days, you know. and i REALLLLLY had to talk myself into exercise. i mean i think it took me two hours haha!! i figured if i did the second level, it would be new and fun and so i finally did it. and, i dont regret it. but DANG! my shoulders were burning. i dont think ive ever used those muscles in my life. JM is insane.

sorry for such a long post - but that crap is intense.
but it also brings me to 9 of 27 shreds. im a third of the way there.
