  • I frequently do the going to sleep thing myself! Lately I've also been having a glass of no sugar added chocolate fat free milk. It's still some calories and some sugar and not really good for ya, but it's sweet, it's chocolate, and the milk helps make me feel full enough to stop. Well, that takes care of the "sweet" craving, anyway... Not so much the "salty" thing or any of the other varieties...

  • I've been doing this for only a couple of days so take it FWIW. When I'm craving and circling the kitchen, I say, "It's MY choice". It's my choice what or whether I eat. So far, I've been able to walk away with nothing or a healthy choice such as an apple.
  • Admitting is the first step, but what on earth is the second???? i too circle the kitchen, looking for a snack having no idea why i want to eat, then eat it and beat myself up. i have sabotaged food for a while, like as soon as we are finished with dinner i immediately put the leftovers in the sink or pout soap on it to keep me from grazing while cleaning up. i wish there was a surgery to make us only eat when hungry.

hang in there, trust me you are not alone. i just joined tonight but am really hoping that by reading what other face and how they deal with it that i will draw strength from them. so best of luck with it. Maybe we should start having old mother Hubbard cupboard, that would stop any problems!!! to bad i have 4 others in the house that would have a fit if snacks were not around.
  • I know this problem all too well unfortunately.

I love to eat and eat in big portions so small surprise that I am big. I eat fast, snarfing down a big bowl of whatever I'm craving, then discover it hasn't satisfied me so I go looking for something else to eat. I have absolutely no self control. It's not emotional eating, it's just that I love to do it and it is more like a habit than anything. I get bored, I go looking for food.

So I now I buy things that you can break up into little portions. I love drinking juices, so I bought a shooter glass. It takes a lot longer to fill one of those, go sit down, do something as you drink it and going back to fill it. I buy those little ice cream bon bon things and only get one at a time, it keeps me from easting a full bowl in a setting. I keep stuff like that around, giving myself just a little bit and walk away it may be enough to forget the craving or at least take longer to eat/drink until I am satisfied.
  • Hmmm...control myself? Hmmm.......?
I have given up controlling myself because I don't listen to me and I just rebel...so I journal my food on fitday.com and have been for 4 years and have lost about 40 lbs in those years...I am post-menopausal and meno-pounds are like cement...so I don't sweat it anymore but just do the best I can...I also lift weights and do cardio because it makes me feel great...and I still don't lose weight in large numbers but I have found peace in food...after dieting all my life I am done...now I just eat healthy as often as I can and leave the rest up to the spirit in the sky....when I leave myself alone I leave the food alone too!
