Chicks in Control April Exercise!!

It's April, girls!! March was a great month for us exercise-wise. Let's make April as good as, if not better!! :carrot:

My goal this month is to commit to three exercise classes a week, alternating with three run/walk days. (assuming I can put this darned cough behind me)

I'm going to close the March thread... congratulations to all of us who put so much into working towards a healthier lifestyle! :running: :ebike: :wl: :lifter: :woops: :workout: :yoga:

dgpebbles 04-01-2006 09:13 AM

Hello Ladies

I finished off March with 1888 minutes which includes cardio and weights time....So my goal this month is to reach over 2,000 mins.....Cardio everyday for at least 30 mins and weights everyday(rotating upper body one day and lower the next)...I also need to put in more effort on my abs...I keep forgeting to work them out and that my worst area( how could I forget them)....

Ellis - great goal..I know you can do it..

Ladies we all had a great month last month...lets keep it up this month...So let's all start off with a bang...

Also thanks to everyone for posting daily and for helping keep us all going strong...all the encouragement really means alot to us all

chaoskitty 04-01-2006 10:11 AM

Hi all!

I'm sort of new here - a bit of a lurker, but I wanted to add my encouragement to the group. Although I'm a bit of a slacker, I've really enjoyed starting my exercise routine. I have tons of energy and I stay away from the food I normally might be eating if I weren't so busy.

I take a spinning class 3 times a week, and this week I start my H20 class (swimming with an aerobic exercise component). I also have my yoga gear for classes that start in 2 weeks.

I know that if I can do this - challenging myself and my new body, anyone can. The benefits are so worth it.

Good luck to all and keep up the EXCELLENT work!!

Kitty

justjodi 04-01-2006 10:52 AM

i'm in this month!! i am going to commit to 3 water aerobics classes(1hr each) and 3 strength training sessions every week (30mins each) also whatever other movement i can fit in daily. i am seriously trying to decrease my couch time!! i am off to a roaring start to april already got my class in for today and i am planning on going out to do some yard work if the rain holds off today.

looks like everyone has great goals in mind let's do this!!! here's to april!!

april 1 = 60 minute water aerobics
10 minute water jog

plb@m 04-01-2006 11:03 AM

Hello everyone
Kitty- Wow 109lbs lost thats great! I was a bit of a slacker too , but I'm doing alot better since I've been here on this Thread. This will make month 3 and I can see so much of a change in my body.

Donna- Abs ,abs ,abs bathing suit, beach , sexy abs.:)

Ellis- Glad to hear your feeling alittle better hope the cough goes away.

My goal this month is 500mins on the elliptical and 4,000 crunches. I'm also going to do some weights and some aerobic exercises , but I'm not going to add them to my goal yet.

Rosethorrne 04-01-2006 12:29 PM

Okay, I started April with my workout at Curves this morning.
So, I'm going to commit to 3 days a week, 30 minutes a day for April. Slow and easy to start.

dgpebbles 04-01-2006 01:18 PM

WOW look at the new people :welcome: everyone...this is a great thread to join...lots of support and motivation here...you will all love it:D ...everyone is having great goals...

Well I'm off to the gym in a few:strong: ...I will check back later..

dalai_lala 04-02-2006 09:43 AM

plb - 4000 crunches... my abs are already aching in sympathy... but you're on... I'll see if I can do that too! :)

Rose - good job! My friend really adores Curves... keep up the good attitude...

Kitty - over 100 pounds! You don't sound like a slacker to me! heheheee... I, too, found that coming here to report really helped me commit to getting some kind of exercise every day. I don't want to come in with my head hanging low and report nothing!

April goals for Lala - Well, I have, in my lunacy, committed to 4000 crunches with plb... and I'm already a day behind! Ack! I am going to step up my stretch routine in the mornings. I am going to stick with weights on MWF and elliptical on T TH Sat (or Sun). I will get in any extra walking when and where I can. Of course, this is totally subject to change if I can get myself a job... but I'll still do something!

I took Saturday off (except for AM stretch), we went to visit family, so I will be doing yesterday's work today. We were supposed to get back to working on the sprinklers today, but it looks like we're going to get rained on...

Happy Sunday!

-lala

dgpebbles 04-02-2006 11:06 AM

Went to the gym yesterday and did 60 mins on the elliptical..... I tried it on the hills workout and I can really feel it today in my butt and back of legs and i did weights for 60 mins...But of course I forgot my abs again so other than that I"m off to a great start...Hope everyone else had a great day ...

justjodi 04-02-2006 04:31 PM

hello everyone!
well yesterday afternoon i drug out my old pedometer and dusted it off, finally read the little instruction thingy and slapped it on. i was very disappointed to see that i only moved about 1000 steps, but i sat back and realized i only had it on a few hours and it was after my cleaning and shopping etc. so i put it on again first thing this morning and i am already over 5000 today and i still have a lot of laundry etc to do. shocking!! so this week i will walk at least 5000 hopefully 6000 everyday. i also went outside and did some raking and yard work it is just a beautiful day here today!! i hope you are all moving around!!! have a great Sunday everyone!!

april 1 = 60 minute water aerobics
10 minute water jog
april 2 = 60 min yard stuff, 5000+ steps

dgpebbles 04-03-2006 09:03 AM

Jody-great job with the steps yesterday...keep it up..

Yesterday I did 60 mins on elliptical on hills again and worked out that soreness from yesterday and did 45 min of weights...that puts me at 225 mins already for this month so I'm off to a great start...

have a great day and everyone move it -move it -move it

dalai_lala 04-03-2006 11:57 AM

Sunday recap

Morning everyone!

Yesterday was... more yardwork, AM stretch, 150 crunches, 5 lb dumbbells. Lots of running 'round the house (inside and out) so I got many steps (for a weekend day) - 8396 steps, so just under 2 miles. I was pretty wiped out by the end of the day and wound up falling asleep in my chair at something like 8:30 last night.... :faint:

Everybody keep up the good work! Happy Monday!

-Lala

plb@m 04-03-2006 03:02 PM

Rose- Great job ! Joining Curves .

Lala- We can do this !!!!!! 1000 a week.

Donna- What a work out !!! WAY TO GO !!!

I got in 200 crunches and 20mins on the elliptical today.
Didn't do anything , but house work the 1st and 2nd.

justjodi 04-03-2006 07:55 PM

what a great job everyone is doing!!! keep at it girls!! i just got back from a butt kicker water aerobics class. sometimes i get these sissy instructors and it is fairly easy, tonight was not one of those times!! i'm feeling good though, totally worked out! i wore the pedometer to work today. i work in an office setting and spend the majority of my day at my desk so i barely squeaked in my 5000 steps. it wasn't as easy as i thought, good reminder having it on though. i got up and took several "walks" around the office today just to get in some steps. i guess that is the gentle reminder i neededto get myself moving a little more.
hope everyone has a great week!!!

april 1 = 60 minute water aerobics, 10 minute water jog
april 2 = 60 min yard stuff, 5000+ steps
april 3 = 60 min water aerobics, 5000 steps

primal muse 04-04-2006 04:52 AM

ok this is my first time to make a goal!

my goal for this month is to do 30 mins of cardio 6 days a week and then muscle excersises atleast 3 days a week.
i would like to stick to 1200 calories a day as well. ive been trying to eat a lot of soup for this reason.

now im not good at keeping my goals so i would really like to be hounded about it if at all possible.

dalai_lala 04-04-2006 07:59 AM

Morning everyone!

plb - I'm lagging behind right now, but I'm hoping to still meet you at the end. I've worked up from 100 crunches a day to 150... can't quite get to 200 YET...

Jodi - good job on the walking and the class. I just got my pedometer at the beginning of the month and I really like it. I can't lie to myself about how lazy I've been, or not, any longer... the steps show it!

Welcome primal muse! Sounds like a good exercise plan, just be sure you're getting enough calories - doesn't that sound weird? But if you burn a lot more than you eat for too long your body will start to hang on to every pound for dear life. Good luck and let us know how you're doing!

-Lala

PS: Doh! I forgot to report! I got it all in yesterday, woo hoo! AM stretch, crunches, 5 lb dumbbells, 1 mile walk, PM stretch, weights. The walk should have been longer but the heat was awful here yesterday. My friend and I both bailed... I felt chicken-fried by the time I got back to my car. I sat there with the A/C on full blast and fortunately my ice pack from my water bag was still mostly frozen. I had started feeling kind of weak and sick to my stomach by the time I got to the parking garage. Blech! Felt better rather quickly though and drove home okay.

ellis 04-04-2006 08:02 AM

I'm just sitting here watching everyone exercise. :( I'm so sick with this cough. I've got a meeting with my trainer today, and an exercise class tonight. It'll be the first exercise I've done since last Thursday. I hope I can manage it.

You're all doing so well... keep it up, girls! :grouphug:

dgpebbles 04-04-2006 09:14 AM

ellis -sorry to hear your still not feeling good...I hope you get well soon..

lala-great job yesterday getting everything done...

Question...Do you think that maybe I'm not eating enough calories for the amount to exercise I'm doing?.....My average for last week was 1312 and I'm doing cardio from anywhere to 30-60 mins and weights for 60 mins...maybe my body is holding on to what I'm eating cause it's not getting enough..

ellis 04-04-2006 08:05 PM

Thanks, Donna. :)
You know, I've been contradicted on this before, I strongly believe that it's important to get enough calories. Well, that's what my dietitian and doctor say, and I believe them!
You could try having a couple of hundred extra calories...

I just did my exercise class. :hat: Now I'm going to take some Buckleys and go to bed.

dalai_lala 04-05-2006 08:38 AM

Tuesday Recap

G'morning! Goods and bads yesterday for me... it was one of those dreaded hungry-all-day days.

However... I did the AM stretch, 160 crunches, 5 lb dumbbells - and I actually picked up the pace for my running in place between sets. In other words, I actually ran in place instead of walking in place... whew! Last night hubby and I went for our 3 miles 'round the neighborhood, and we did great! Our last record was 35 minutes per 1.5 mile circuit and last night we managed 33 minutes per circuit. I know that's not exactly a 15 minute mile yet, but our old time was 45 minutes per circuit, so we're definitely seeing an improvement.

That walk put my pedometer over 15,000 steps for one day, too...

Keep working, we're getting better every day!

-lala

justjodi 04-05-2006 07:41 PM

great job lala sounds like you had a great day yesterday!!! 15,000 steps?? i can only dream!!

ellis good for you going out to the class!!! i hope the buckleys did the trick!

donna i agree with ellis maybe adding in a few hundred extra calories for a while will kick up your metabolism. good luck!!

hello primal good luck with your goals!!

me? well 5000 steps yesterday, barely!!! sheesh this is way harder than i thought. to make it today i'm going to have to march in place before bed LOL. didn't make it to my 2nd class yet this week. too much time spent running kids around. i'm going to the late class tomorrow night no matter what is going on here. feeling sort of cruddy tonight TOM. maybe i'll have a little tea.

keep up the great work everyone!!!!

dgpebbles 04-05-2006 08:42 PM

I agree..what was up with yesterday...I also was hungry all day...we went to a buffett with a freind and I ate more that I should have and all healthy either but I did come in at 1800 calories which was better than I thought it would be...I also didn't get in any exercise...I was not feeling to good and slept most of the afternoon and night...I feel better today just still feel really tired...don't think I'll make it tonight either...I do have my first real session with my trainer tomorrow...I hope he doesn't kick my butt to hard..

Lala- WTG 33 mins from 45 is a great improvement..you'll be at 15 before you know it...

Jody-hope you get in all those steps..yes it is hard..I stand up and walk all day at work and I don't even get in that many...

dalai_lala 04-06-2006 09:45 AM

Wednesday Recap

Okay... AM stretch, crunches, 1.5 mile walk... that's about it. I got in lots of other walking, though, about 2.5 miles total for the day. I'm up to about 630 crunches for the month total, I try to add 10 more every day until I can do 200 per day. I also do about 20 - 25 reverse crunches per day, but I haven't counted those in my total. Do you think I should?

I'm not announcing it officially yet, I think it's a scale fluke but... the scale said 259 this morning. Gulp... the lowest I've ever weighed in... I dunno... ten years? I was 261 yesterday and I know I didn't burn enough calories yesterday to lose 2 whole pounds. I'm semi-excited, but I'm holding off on the official boogie-down until I give it a day or two to see if it sticks. Wish me luck!

-Lala

plb@m 04-06-2006 10:29 AM

Lala-A reverse crunch is a crunch I would count them . You are doing great !!! My rule is if the scale shows the same weight for 2 days then I count it and move on . My scale only moves every 2lbs so seeing a 2lb lost over night happens to me every time it does go down. I'm sure it wiill stay down your doing so good.

As for me I'm feeling lazy and down. I'm fighting the pig inside of me ! I haven't eaten today because I don't know if I will beable to stop if I do.

dalai_lala 04-06-2006 12:07 PM

Oh, I know those days, plb! I get one every week or so... yesterday and the day before actually. I just felt like I was starving the whole day no matter what I ate, good or bad. It's one of those things we just have to bear and move through as best we can, unfortunately. I didn't eat espeically well either day, but I just kept moving as much as possible to counteract what I could. Good luck! Keep moving! (A moving target is harder to hit? Sure, why not...)

-Lala

dgpebbles 04-06-2006 07:09 PM

well I did make it to the gym yesterday after all but all I did was 30 mins on the elliptical...today I went and did 60 mins on elliptical and 60 mins of weights...I think I'm back on track again...

ellis 04-06-2006 08:37 PM

I think I'm back on track with you, girls! (Yay, Donna!) I just got home from my 45 minute INTENSE exercise class. :D

Plb, Lala is right... keep moving, hon!

You're all doing great... :cheer: :cheer:

justjodi 04-06-2006 09:46 PM

well i made it to my class tonight, thats 2 down this week. i'll go saturday morning with no fuss! i got in 6000 steps today, i kept moving at work for most of the afternoon and then parked at the far edge of the parking lot at the y to get the rest in.

lets keep it moving everyone!!!

dalai_lala 04-07-2006 08:21 AM

Thursday recap

G'morning everyone! Looks like we're all hard at work this week... good job!

I had a serious Thursday. I skipped out on weights on Wednesday night, so I made myself do them Thursday morning instead. So... AM stretch, crunches, weights. PM stretch, 35 min elliptical. Only a mile & a half in steps, though. That's okay, my workouts wound up coming close to 2.5 hours yesterday, I think I did quite enough!

Happy Friday!

-La

(BTW, I did post it under the CIC: Weight Loss thread, but the weight of 259 is really real! Yippeeeeeeeeee!!)

dgpebbles 04-07-2006 10:16 AM

morning ladies...yesterday was good ...I ate good and got in my cardio and weights....Has anyone heard if it's ok to do an hour of cardio and an hour of weight in the same day...someone told me to alternate days and not to do them both in the same day..said that anything over an hour starts burning muscle...It makes sense but I see everyone doing both everyday at the gym even the one that are in great shape...if it was wrong than why do they look good?

ellis 04-08-2006 08:05 PM

Hi, ladies!
I went to my exercise class this morning. My chest is really congested, and I'm zonked. Am going to bed...

Good going... keep up the great work! :cheer:

justjodi 04-08-2006 09:03 PM

hello everyone!

well i made it to my exrecise class this morning, and got in 10,000 steps today!! who'd of thought just shoping and regular satrday errands would equal that many steps. going to bed early tonight, i am beat!

take care ellis- good job getting to the class today!!

dgpebbles 04-08-2006 10:22 PM

Great jo ladies getting in those classes today...and getting in your 10,000 steps...I'm hoping to go to bed early too...I have to work in the morning...today I only did weights and I cut the grass(good cardio)..I'll make it to the gym after work tomorrow and do my elliptical and weights ...

have a great Sunday

plb@m 04-09-2006 10:45 PM

Hello everyone,
I've got in 1000 crunches and 90mins on elliptical and 90 mins of just moving after the elliptical to keep my heart rate up. I'm down 1lb ,but I'm not ready to move the tracker for that just yet.
I'm thinking about adding weights maybe a couple times a week or just weekends.

dgpebbles 04-10-2006 08:32 AM

plb-WOW- :cheer: 1000 crunches and 90 min on elliptical..you go girl...and congrats on the 1lb..keep it up

yesterday I did 45 mins on elliptical ..no weights yesterday...will do them tonight...So far I'm at 600 mins of workouts this month...I'm also down 1lb this week.....

Jodi-How are thoses steps coming along?

ellis - Hope your feeling better:hug:

chaoskitty 04-10-2006 11:30 AM

hi everyone!

You guys are awesome!

dgpebbles - Thanks for the pats on the back. It's hard for me to see the work I've done until someone mentions it - so thanks for putting what I've accomplished down in black and white so I can really absorb it. I really admire the cardio work you've done - and I have to admit it's motivated me to really blast off during my spinning classes, which are 60 minutes of grueling up and down on the bike seat (ouch) as well as my legs falling off. But good golly I feel like a million dollars afterwards!

dalai lala - look at your walking! OMG, I don't think I could do 3 miles in one go, that's for sure. I had a hungry day on Sunday (4/9) so I sure can relate to the hungry-all-day feeling.

Donna (ellis) - I hope you are feeling better. It's certainly hard enough to just get around, much less exercise when you are feeling poorly. Thank goodness I can go to my gym and sit in the sauna when I'm sick - it may not actually help me get better any quicker, but I know psychologically it seems to help.

justjodi - OOOoo I love my water aerobics class! My muscles really get a nice burn and I feel soooo de-stressed floating in the water afterwards, it's just a great feeling! You are doing really great with your other exercise too!

Hey primal muse - I hope you are able to stick to your workout goals - they sound just perfect. Are you making your own soup? I've noticed if I don't watch it, my canned soup has tons of sodium and for some reason, I really retain the water if I have too much of it. Lately, I've been staying away from the prepared stuff, and only making my garden vegetable soup (I've not had any lately though - bad me!)

So far here are my stats on biking for the last week according to fitday:
Time Spent Stats
Total: 190 mins
Average: 63.33 mins
Max: 70 mins
Min: 60 mins
Avg Weekly: 190 mins

And here is my elliptical times:
Time Spent Stats
Total: 130 mins
Average: 32.5 mins
Max: 50 mins
Min: 20 mins
Avg Weekly: 130 mins

Good luck to all in exercising and choosing smart food choices as well!

kimd2006 04-10-2006 02:13 PM

Hi, I'm new to the form.

My exercise goals this week are 3 days of cardio for 30-45 minutes and 2 days of strength training. This is my first time actually making an exercise goal so I really hope I can keep it.

dalai_lala 04-10-2006 05:03 PM

Hi Kim! Welcome aboard, you've found a great place! I know that I exercised pretty sporadically before I started hanging out here, but now I would hate to walk in and confess that I gave in to laziness, so I am sure to make myself do the work. Now I almost always get in at least 5 days a week of SOMEthing.

Speaking of which, ya'll, I had a terrible weekend. It was the Killer TOM from Outer Space and I spent most of the weekend in bed... with a heating pad. I even got nauseous. My poor hubby was worried that I might be pregnant until I reminded him that I actually was in the throes of TOM so... unlikely. Though, I did know a woman who continued to have TOM for the first few months of pregnancy - but I didn't tell him that! :fr:

Today's good, though... well, I didn't get far on the crunches, still too much in the way of crampiness... but I did the normal morning routine otherwise.

Hope everyone's having a great day!

(play that funky music) :dancer: (boogie wonderlaa-and...)

-Lala

justjodi 04-10-2006 07:24 PM

hello everyone!!

well exercise is no longer my problem thanks to all of your encouragement! could someone come over and lock up my fridge tho???? sheesh!! someday all of this will come together!!

so yesterday we spent the entire day outside including a hike through the woods with the kids and i got in over 17000 steps on my pedometer!! when i see all the movement i do on the weekend(2days) compared to the week(5days) it is no wonder i am exhausted on monday when i get to work! feeling good about it though.

tomorrow i'll go to my class and walk as much as humanly possible for a chubby woman with a desk job!

kim- welcome! good luck with your goals!!

kitty- great job on your workouts keep it up!!

donna & plb great job keep it going!!

lala- TOM was not kind to me either! hope you are feeling better.

ellis- are you feeling better dear??

if i missed anyone sorry hugs to all!! let's keep it moving ladies!!

ellis 04-11-2006 09:49 AM

Hi, ladies! You're all really burning up the calories, eh? Good job!! :grouphug:

Kim, welcome! I hope you're managing to stick to your exercise plan!! :)

Lala, I hope you're feeling better. Darned Tom, eh? :( It really cuts into our lives.

Kitty, spinning is such good exercise! DH and I took classes for awhile, and boy, was I sore after each class! Be careful with your legs falling off... one of our mods caught her leg on the pedal, and had to have over 20 stitches. :(

Donna, congratulations on the pound down! You're doing so well with the elliptical!!
I'm not certain about the cardio and weights thing, but I seem to recall my trainer telling me to alternate them.

Jodi, "... a chubby woman with a desk job..." :lol3: I hear ya re: the food. But heck, you've got half the battle won! You're an exerciser!! :cheer:

I got home from my exercise class on Saturday around 9:30. I went back to bed, and slept until 1:15! :yikes: I guess I really needed that sleep.
I'm starting to feel better... thank you for all of your well-wishes, you sweet girls. :grouphug:
I'm determined to get on the treadmill this afternoon/evening. I just need a major kick in the butt... :running:
