February Exercise Challenge

It's a new month, dah'lings!! Let's pick up the pace a bit. I, for one, am planning on wearing a one-piece this summer! :D

Anyone who would like to join us, come on in!! :welcome2:

:wl: :coach: :tread: :goodscale :workout: :cheer: :sumo: :ebike: :dancer: :strong:

Congratulations to those of you who participated in January. (DancingAngel, you Queen, you!! :queen: )

Margarita 01-31-2006 08:48 PM

I'm sorta new here. :) What is the challenge, exactly?

ellis 02-01-2006 08:11 AM

Welcome, Margarita! :)

Basically, we're just challenging ourselves. To do a little more than we did yesterday... to do enough that we feel good about ourselves.
I'm starting a new "diet" program tomorrow, and with it comes a commitment to exercise. I'll be posting my daily exercise minutes here with the others...
We'd love to have you join us!

Margarita 02-01-2006 10:47 AM

Thanks for the welcome and the invitation. Okay, I'm in for February. :) I'm presently trying to build up my stamina for a 7-mile race in May. I only plan to walk the race, not run, but it's still a challenge because I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life, and very out of shape. I really do hope to see some positive changes by the end of this month.

I'm looking forward to reading about everyone else's challenges.

dgpebbles 02-01-2006 11:45 AM

hello ..I would like to join you in this challenge...my goal is to get in more exercise...for the month of Jan I only got in 658 minutes of exercise...this month I would like to challenge myself to do over 1000 minutes

FishWoman 02-02-2006 10:20 AM

Hi everyone. I had a grand total of 1276 minutes for January!

Yesterday I walked for 30 minutes and snuck in 5 minutes of yoga at the office.

****

2/01 - 35 minutes total - 30 walking; 5 yoga

October = 1176; November = 1235; December 1192; January 1276

dgpebbles 02-02-2006 07:41 PM

well yesterday was a good start..I got in 75 minutes of exercise...Have not done todays yet..

ellis 02-03-2006 08:48 AM

Good going, girls! :cheer:

Until I see my new trainer next week, I'm just going to keep track of the steps I'm counting on my pedometer. I want to work up to 10 000 a day.

Feb 2 - 3317

dgpebbles 02-03-2006 09:11 AM

morning everyone

lots of good goals here...well yesterday I got in 45 mins on bike....thats a total of 120 minutes for the first 2 days...I'm off to a great start..

How is everyone else doing so far on their Feb goal?

Tiggs 02-03-2006 02:25 PM

Can I join you guys...my exercise goal is to

work out for at least 30 minutes after the boys go down every night...30 minutes isn't a whole lot and that's why I've set my goal for every night. It means I miss one tv show a night while I hit the treadmill or the bike in the basement and better myself...well worth it.

ellis 02-03-2006 04:53 PM

Welcome, Donna! We're glad to have you join us. :)

Margarita 02-03-2006 05:22 PM

My goal, now that I've thought about it some, is to increase my daily aerobic exercise to 40 or 45 minutes a day by the end of the month. (By "daily", I mean Monday through Friday.) I started in January with just 25 minutes a day, and am now up to 35 minutes. This is all in preparation for a 7-mile walk I hope to take part in, in May. Right now my weight is at an all-time high, and my stamina is at an all-time low. Any improvement will be a victory.

I also plan to resume contradancing with DH in mid-February. We started back in the fall, but I realized after the first couple of lessons that I was too out of shape to participate. It took me almost 25 years to get him to agree to go dancing with me. Now that he's willing, I'm determined to get into good enough shape to take advantage of the opportunity.

surfdreams 02-03-2006 05:22 PM

Hi all - i'm trying hard. Did 60 minutes Wednesday and 120 minutes Thursday. Just don't feel like it today - I'm sore from a mat pilates class. Can someone tell me how I can find this site again? I keep posting in different sites and then I can't find them. I'm sure someone has responded to one of my posts (or at least I hope so) - but i can't find anything!

plb@m 02-03-2006 08:55 PM

I'm in :carrot:

My B-day is in March and want to feel and look good !

Claire de Ravin 02-03-2006 09:24 PM

I am in. My exercise goals are in my sig - I really need to star weight training and am getting weights at Modell's tomorrow! I also want to ban cravings and overeating (I know it's impossible to do it all the time, but possibly some) because it is making me stay at a plateau.

ellis 02-03-2006 09:32 PM

Feb 2 - 3317 steps
Feb 3 - 5437

Better than yesterday!! :hat:

dgpebbles 02-03-2006 11:43 PM

dgpebbles 02-07-2006 11:45 AM

sorry I've been busy the last few days...well no exercise for yesterday but I am at 295 minutes for the month so I'm still on track.

DancingAngel - great job on the exercise...wow your really working your butt off....but wait your butts already gone lol:rofl: ...wow 190lbs lost and at your goal.:balloons: :cheer: ..how long did it take you to get there?...and also thanks for sticking around and helping to motivate the rest of us

DancingAngel 02-07-2006 01:31 PM

Hi, dgpebbles, and thanks for your kind words! It only took me about 12 years to lose all the weight! I lost 50 or so, and then had a baby, and that was it for awhile. Then I lost the additional over a 3 year period. I'm a weightloss surgery patient, and it's not for everybody! It did work for me, though I had some complications along the way.

I can tell you that I honestly love exercising, and I know it's the key to acheiving and maintaining any significant weight loss, no matter what method (diet and/or surgery) you use!

Thanks again!

surfdreams 02-07-2006 06:12 PM

Good day

Went to the club today and did one hour water aerobics and 30 minutes of strength machines. Didn't have time to do my free weights tho'. I'm just getting into free weights. Does anyone use a trainer for that?

Oh, and I'm down 2 pounds:cool:

just_a_dreamy1 02-07-2006 07:10 PM

walk to work atleast 3 days/week

I also want to start getting outside to run, rather than just doing it in the house. i have to get over my fear!

FishWoman 02-08-2006 11:27 AM

Oh my gosh, I'm back. I have been so sick. The 20 minute walk this morning totally wiped me out. But I know the only way to get back to the apartment is another 20 minute walk, so at least I am getting some movement and exercise in finally.

As of last Thursday I had fever and bone-achyness. I finally went to the doctor yesterday - It turns out i have bronchitis. Yuck. But I am on antibiotics now, so should be feeling better shortly and back in the exercise saddle.

I have a funny feeling I won't be breaking any records with my February totals:(

****

2/01 - 35 minutes total - 30 walking; 5 yoga
2-02 through 2/07 - nothing
2/08 - 40 minutes walking

October = 1176; November = 1235; December 1192; January 1276

ellis 02-08-2006 09:43 PM

Fishwoman, I'm so sorry you're sick. :( I'm glad you've got some meds... you'll soon be back exercising. Sending you a big hug, sweetie...

FishWoman 02-09-2006 12:53 PM

Hello! I had another 20 minute walk this morning. I'll be on the train back to D.C. tonight, so no evening walk (maybe if I run along side the train?;) )

My plan is to make it to the gym tomorrow - we shall see. Stay strong, everybody!
****

2/01 - 35 minutes total - 30 walking; 5 yoga
2-02 through 2/07 - nothing
2/08 - 40 minutes walking
2/09 - 20 minutes walking

October = 1176; November = 1235; December 1192; January 1276

dgpebbles 02-09-2006 07:19 PM

I rode my bike yesteray for a full hour and boy was my tush numb when I got off lol..that puts me at 402 minutes for the month...we are all doing so great...keep it up..

surfdreams 02-09-2006 07:50 PM

Way to go Donna!! I never learned to ride a bike and a couple of years ago I decided to remedy this. I rented a bike for my daughter, myself, and my niece and then hit the bike trails. I was pleased that I did it - but boy, my TUSH was very, very, very sore. The girls too. We were going to go horseback riding the next day - but the girls BEGGED me to not go. I had no problem staying home that day!!

plb@m 02-10-2006 07:34 PM

dgpebbles 02-12-2006 08:37 AM

congrats to everyone on doing a awesome job so far...keep it up

ellis 02-12-2006 08:51 AM

Good for you, Donna! I'm glad you're back at it. :)

I had my first weight class yesterday. It was a really fast moving, 30 minute class. We got our heart rates up, and just MOVED!
My lats are killing me! I love it.

DancingAngel 02-13-2006 01:38 PM

Hello! For those of you who are digging out today, we are enjoying yet another 50+ degree day here in Nebraska! We saw a few cold days and a wee bit of snow, but so far this winter has been very manageable. However, we've a few weeks to go.

Well, hear me roar! This is February so far --
Feb. 1 -- 60 minutes step aerobics
Feb. 2 -- 57 minutes circuit training (high step)
Feb. 3 -- 54 minutes floor aerobics/abs
Feb. 4 -- 69 minutes step aerobics
Feb. 5 -- 46 minutes Pilates
Feb. 6 -- 58 minutes step aerobics
Feb 7 -- 58 minutes The Firm (weights/cardio)
Feb 8 -- 60 minutes step aerobics
Feb 9 -- 55 minutes functional fitness (weights w/cardio)
Feb 10 -- 52 minutes (42 hi-lo aerobics, 10 quick Pilates routine)
Feb 11 -- 78 minutes (40 step aerobics, 38 toning & stretch)
Feb 12 -- 33 minutes cardio dance
Feb 13 -- 54 minutes step aerobics

For those buried under snow, remember spring is coming! Have a great day.

A thought -- "Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles. It empties today of its strength."

dgpebbles 02-13-2006 09:21 PM

I did 60 minutes on the bike yesterday...that puts me at 492 minutes for the month...have not done todays workout yet..I'm tired and trying to talk myself into it..

Margarita 02-14-2006 01:33 PM

Well, I've achieved part of my February goal. I'm up to 40 minutes of aerobics a day, on the days I do aerobics. When I walk, I'm up to a mile and a half, at a pace that has me working but not out of breath.

Plb@m, congratulations on your weight loss! :)

Fishwoman, are you feeling better this week?

FishWoman 02-14-2006 04:04 PM

Saturday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, and it completely wiped me out! Yesterday I did 30 minutes of yoga, and today I am walking for 40 minutes (already did 20, will do 20 to get back to the apartment).

Dancing Angel - we got 12 inches of snow this weekend! The dogs were so confused when I let them out Sunday morning to go to the bathroom! Then they just went crazy running around - the snow came up higher than the puppy's legs!

Margarita - I am feeling better, thank you for asking. I am still very short of breath though. It makes it hard to do cardio, so I am sticking to walking and yoga for a little while. I am very frustrated, because I am normally a cardio queen, but I just keep telling myself that as long as I am not gaining weight, it is okay to just maintain for a while so that I don't get sick again.

PLB - congratulations on losing 4 pounds! that is great!

Ellis - are you doing the weight class again? They are fun, but I hardly ever go to them.

ellis 02-14-2006 04:17 PM

Fishwoman, I'm so glad you're feeling better, hon. You're smart to keep exercising, even if it's not at your usual standard of difficulty.
Yes, I'm going to another class... this evening!
And DH and I are walking almost every night. I'm starting to feel pretty good. ;)

Oh, no! I was just going to say that we haven't had snow for awhile, but I can see out the window... it's coming down! :yikes:
I hope everyone is coping with their own snowfall!!
