Exercise Challenge!!

Okay, girls! Post your exercise here... let's burn some calories!!

:ebike: :tread: :workout:

sherpamelissa 07-18-2005 09:35 AM

Strength training - Legs! :workout:

Stair machine - 30 minutes - 237 calories burned :dancer:

Bike ride - 30 minutes - approx. 200 cal burned (I forgot to stop the HRM) :bike:

:coach: C'mon Ladies! Join me!

Leenie 07-18-2005 03:31 PM

:corn: bbl to fill in blanks.

ellis 07-18-2005 03:35 PM

What's bbl? :?:
I haven't exercised yet, but I'm thinking about it. DH wants to start walking again. But I think maybe not this evening. With the humidex, it's currently 43C. That's 109F. I am NOT going outside unless I have to!! :yikes:

sherpamelissa 07-18-2005 07:31 PM

I think Leenie means Be Back Later?

Ellis! Try to do something for the 10 minutes you promised. 10 minutes of walking even in that heat isn't going to melt you. ;)

I really didn't want to ride my bike at lunch today, it was hot and yucky and humid and WINDY. But I dragged my sorry butt out there because I haven't been making the best eating choices and I need to make up for them somehow. And, ya know, I felt awesome when I got back to the office.

ellis 07-18-2005 07:37 PM

does sex count?

Okay, okay, Melissa. I'm on it. I'll treadmill or something...

sherpamelissa 07-19-2005 08:41 AM

Upper body workout. I added weight to quite a few of my machines. I feel strong! :wl:

Then I did a half an hour on the treadmill. :tread: And I ran the whole time! I ended up with 1.71 miles and 208 calories burned. I can't believe how slow I run a mile!

Bike ride, done! 30 minutes 6.7 miles. Whee!

Psst, Ellis - It does count!

Leenie 07-19-2005 03:04 PM

I'm sorry girls, I was a slug, no excuse really but I'll give you one just for entertainment purposes. I got home at 6 pm did the dinner/cleaning thing, showered and was in bed by 8:00 (putting DD to sleep so that means I fall asleep too.

I will really try to do something tonight.

Leenie 07-20-2005 08:46 AM

Okay so last night I did walk, not agressive but I did for about 20 minutes. Bedder dan nuthin, bodda bing !

;)

ellis 07-20-2005 09:05 AM

Yay, Leenie!! :cheer: :cheer:

Okay, you've embarrassed me into it. I'm going to walk tonight. It's much cool today.

sherpamelissa 07-20-2005 10:50 AM

Woo Leenie! :cheer:

You can do it Ellis! :coach:

I did 40 minutes on the treadmill today. I ran it ALL! It was over two miles but I didn't have my stuff with to write it all down.

Leenie 07-21-2005 08:18 AM

(shamefully hanging head)

ellis 07-21-2005 10:47 AM

Melissa, you GO, girl!! :cheer:

Well, I did it. I walked to my meeting last night. It was a 1/2 hour walk, which is the most exercise I've done since my meds stopped working a month ago.
25 minutes into my walk (was feeling very good about myself), a muscle in my left calf seized up. I limped the rest of the way to the meeting, and had someone drive me home afterwards. Today I can still barely walk. I'm in agony. I've just taken some muscle relaxants, and I'm going to take it easy today.
I can't believe this!! Just as I was starting to exercise!! CURSES!!!

Leenie, be careful when you walk, eh? ;)

LegallyBrunette 07-21-2005 11:33 AM

What a great thread!! (I'm loving this whole website!)

Today I will spend 30 minutes on the stationary bike, 30 minutes on the elliptical and do an upper body weight training session! (No clue as to how many calories that will burn)

I don't feel bad writing it down because I KNOW I will do it! (Just waiting for hubby to get home since he took my car to his meeting this morning)

ellis 07-21-2005 11:47 AM

LegallyBrunette, good for you!! :hat:
I don't know about the upper body workout, either, but you know what they say... the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn!!

sherpamelissa 07-21-2005 01:12 PM

Hey Ellis, good for you for walking! It stinks that your muscles wouldn't cooperate though. I woke up at 2am with my left calf muscle seized or a cramp or something. It was awful. My toes were all curled up and it took forever to work out. Then I went down to the kitchen and had a banana and some milk. I heard both help for muscle spasm type stuff, but I don't know where. I may have made that up.

ellis 07-21-2005 01:15 PM

I've heard that, too, Melissa. Potassium. (sp?) Also, you can cramp up if you're dehydrated. (THAT never happens!)

00QTGrl00 07-21-2005 01:53 PM

hey everyone - i think i need to join in on this --

Today:

3 miles around the park - jogging/walking
30 minutes - in the pool doing laps etc. (but its my own pool which doesn't really allow laps so it doesn't count as much really lol)

i'm in a rut right now...

ellis 07-22-2005 09:23 AM

Wow, good for you, QTGRL!! :hat:

My leg is still cramped, but I'm thinking of hopping on the treadmill or something for a wee bit. Don't hold your breath.

Leenie 07-22-2005 09:56 AM

Hi Ladies,

I believe its Magnesium for cramps in the leg, you might wanna take a calcium pill w/magnesium. When I was on atkins BOY oh BOY did I get them. I took the cal/mag pills and POOF! gone.

Well I danced and ran w/DD for 1/2 hr yesterday, does that count? Did I sweat?
Just thinking about dancing makes me sweat, so the answer is YES (I'm NOT gonna say I had sex like Ellis says)

:)

sherpamelissa 07-22-2005 01:36 PM

I skipped the gym again this morning in favor of more sleep. TOM just knocks me out. It is so physically hard to drag my butt out of bed at 4:45am! :dz:

Thank goodness I have my bike here at work or I wouldn't get any exercise at all. 1/2 hour on the bike at lunch today. Not good enough, but it will do!

Great job QT and Leenie! :high:

ellis 07-23-2005 08:26 AM

Well, I found some energy yesterday, and bagged a bunch of garden debris, plus did some heavy gardening for a good hour. I'm going to count it as exercise, because with my sluggishness lately, ANY movement is doing me good. :hat:

LegallyBrunette 07-23-2005 10:53 AM

I forgot to update yesterday!!

I got 30 minutes on the bike and 30 on the treadmill yesterday :)

Today I will do 90 minutes of cardio! (I've got a free day for myself, and the gym sounds like fun!!) 30 bike/30 treadmill/30 elliptical

sherpamelissa 07-26-2005 08:37 AM

Hey! I posted here yesterday and it appears to be gone. Did I put it somewhere else? Probably.

Yesterday I did 30 minutes lower body strength and 25 minutes on the treadmill. I was not able to ride my bike at lunch due to thunderstorms. I will ride in rain, but not lightening.

Today I did 25 minutes upper body strength training and 20 minutes on the treadmill but I upped the pace quite a bit. Tomorrow is a non strength training day so I will try to run for an hour. :fr:

Leenie 07-26-2005 09:15 AM

WTG LegallyB & Melissa :)

I haven't been exercising, actually I've been cleaning a room a night when I get home. I know its not the same thing, but I'm not sitting and thats unusual for me.

Melissa & LegallyB you are such an inspiration !!! please don't stop :D

sherpamelissa 07-27-2005 10:17 AM

:tread:

I did manage the treadmill for a full hour today. I ran the entire thing and completed 3.63 miles and burned 343 calories on at 16:30 mile pace. I need to speed things up a bit, but I'll just keep working on that as I go.

Rode my bike 1/2 hour at lunch today.

sherpamelissa 07-29-2005 11:39 AM

This morning I did 25 minutes on the treadmill as instructed with my training materials. I don't like how easy this training is. I need more exercise! :dizzy:

(Who is this weird person? A year ago I would have *died* rather than run on the treadmill for 5 minutes!!) ;)

sherpamelissa 08-01-2005 08:49 AM

Good morning! I did lower body strength training for about 25 minutes, then 25 minutes on the treadmill. I kept the pace at 4.0 (a 15 minute mile) for almost the whole thing!

I may ride my bike at lunch. This is the only full day I am working this week, so it will be my only chance.

ellis 08-02-2005 07:34 AM

Melissa, Leenie and I are horribly lazy, (sorry to speak for you, Leenie, but it's true, ain't it?) but I'm seeing my psychiatrist this morning (he's back early!), and I'm hoping to get back on track with my meds so that I can stop lying around and MOVE!!
Anyhow, keep it up, girl! :hat: I hope to be with you soon. and then I'll drag Leenie... kicking and screaming... behind me...

sherpamelissa 08-03-2005 08:18 AM

Tuesday: 30 minutes stair machine (I slept in until 5am, so I didn't get the strength training in. I hate when I do that)

Wednesday: Up at 4:40 today! I did upper body strength training and 20 minutes on the treadmill, per my training guide. It still feels weird not to do at least 30.

sherpamelissa 08-08-2005 01:06 PM

The last time I did any official exercise was Wednesday. That is sad! :o

I slept through my alarm this morning. My family has me so exhausted. So I did my first outside run today at lunch. It is much harder than the treadmill. I am a big, sweaty red mess. And it feels awesome!

I have called my MIL (she watches my daughter) and made up a story about why I will be 25 minutes late, this way I can stop at the gym on the way home and get my strength training in. It is sad that stopping at the drug store or grocery store is acceptable but being late for the gym is not. :?:

Hopefully some of the new ladies will be goining me here in the exercise thread! :hyper:

sherpamelissa 08-09-2005 09:32 AM

I got up at 5am to get to the gym and do my upper body strength training. :strong: I did not get up early enough to get my run in, so I will have to do that today at lunch.

eta: I did a 33 minute bike ride instead. I was so excited when I saw today was XT (Crosstrain) day on my schedule. I miss my bike!

:sorry: I am getting lonely in here......

sherpamelissa 08-10-2005 08:28 AM

:flow1: Yay me! I dragged my butt out of bed early enough this morning to do both my strength training (legs) and running (20 minutes). I also tried to do the stretching included in my training booklet but I stink at reading something and trying to figure out what they are talking about.

Tomorrow is a rest day, then Friday I am hoping to get to the gym - but I don't work so I have to get someone to watch the little sherpa. :crossed:

ellis 08-10-2005 05:18 PM

I just got back from the cottage. Spent HOURS in the water, so I must have burned a few of the many calories I ate while we were up.

sherpamelissa 08-15-2005 12:22 PM

20 minutes strength training this morning plus 25 minutes on the treadmill. I am biking to subway for lunch - probably about 20 minutes worth.

sherpamelissa 08-16-2005 09:09 AM

25 minutes strength training legs. Today is a cross train day so I will ride my bike 1/2 hour at lunchtime.

sherpamelissa 08-17-2005 08:54 AM

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I like that little guy.

I did 25 minutes upper body strength training today. I will get in a 20 minute "EZ" run per my training schedule at lunch today.

ellis 08-17-2005 09:14 AM

I did a brisk 20 minute walk yesterday, and chopped and bagged four garden-waste bags of tree branches. :)

sherpamelissa 08-17-2005 09:15 AM

Yay! Company! Way to go Ellis! :high:

See ya here tomorrow? ;)

tiempobar 08-17-2005 12:35 PM

Way to go all of you for every big and little bit that you do for yourselves!

I do my workouts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It alternates when there is a long weekend or holiday. In the winter months, I tend to add more exercise in my basement, due to not being as active as in the summer months.

I go to Curves with a friend to get my strength and cardio training, and I love it! In the winter I add some small weight training and the Nordic Track. Now that is a killer machine LOL! It reminds me everytime exactly why I don't cross country ski! We have now added a stationary bike to the basement "gym". :)

Today being Wednesday, I am off to Curves right after work, and thank goodness my oldest son doesn't have any baseball tonight. His schedule is at least keeping me out of the fridge, unfortunately it is making me eat way to late at night. We are going to clean up the basement this weekend, so we can all get back to extra exercise. This will hopefully counteract the damage being done by eating so late at night. :/
