Default Going to dinner tonight at a new friends house..

Tonight my husband and daughter are going to dinner at a new friends house. My husband works with the other husband and I am just meeting the wife for the first time tonight, and they also have a daughter the same age as our own.
I hear she is making chicken enchiladas for dinner and we are bringing dessert. Just recently I have gotten back on track with eating healthier and working out again.
I am nervous about this dinner. I dont want to eat badly. I know I used to be pretty good at portion control and I'm just starting to get better at that again.
So far today I just had some coffee and a bowl of multigrain cheerios. I'm worried about what to eat before this dinner because I don't want to go over my calories. Any suggestions?

You need to eat something before dinner, or you will be ravenous. I suggest water with low-cal soup or chili or slices of meat or an apple with cheese.

Or some veggies and then you're set in case there aren't many at the meal. Enjoy the conversation and focus on that - have fun! Don't stress - this is the "living your plan" part of it all. Enjoy. The calories in one meal are not going to doom you - it's all part of the whole. Don't go in hungry.

Eat a fruit or something! They always tie me over for an hour.
Or I agree, have some soup! Just enjoy yourself, one meal won't be the determining factor of your success!

Have a light lunch with as many veggies as you can pack in and enjoy dinner!

I disagree that you'll be ravenous and go out of control at dinner if you don't eat something. You might, but everyone is different. To be honest, when I know I'm going to intake 1000 calories for dinner (which is very easy to do with chicken enchiladas + whatever dessert she's serving that you'll want to try if only to be polite), I do not eat lunch, or at a very tiny snack to tide me over. Yes, I'm hungry when I arrive at dinner, but as long as I eat slowly and mindfully I have never gone out of control crazy after not eating or eating lightly throughout the day.

That's just what works for me. If I know I need to allot a lot of calories for a party, dinner, etc, I will significantly reduce calories for the rest of the day to accommodate that. There's nothing wrong with eating most of your calories in one meal if that's what works best. You may work differently and *would* binge if you were hungry, in which case perhaps you should eat a larger lunch and very small portion for dinner. I just share what works for me to provide an alternative perspective- everyone is different and you should find out what works for you

I'm proud of myself. I didn't eat too much. Well, ok, I had two enchiladas. That's not too horrible I don't think, considering I ate very lightly today?
I don't feel bad about it. I'm glad I didn't get another one. Luckily I felt satisfied after that.
Hopefully they weren't too bad for you. Tomorrow will be back to normal with eating as healthy as I can!
