Default Aaaargh! What's Wrong With Me!!??

I've been fairly good all day today, been to the gym and did an hour there, was fine when I got back just had a few grapes, until 10 minutes ago when I ate 4 bags of crisps (chips) in quick succession.

I always do this and it's really starting to upset me . I don't know why I eat like that, late at night just before bed. It's almost like I don't know I'm doing it but I must do, I'm the one who opened the packs and rammed the crisps in and yet it's like I can't stop myself.

I really hate myself for it and I don't know how to stop. I've tried distracting myself with reading, making jewellery, tidying up ect, but it just doesn't work.

I'm at my wits end here, can anyone help?

I would agree with bargoo, but I don't know your situation, so I don't know if it's an option to not have them in the house. If you live alone and can control that sort of thing, then yes, stop buying them! But, if you're like me and live with family/other people and can't control what they bring it, then it's a much harder situation!

It sounds like you wanted something salty and you were probably hungry from your work out. The grapes probably weren't the best choice. After a work out, if you're hungry, you should eat protein or carbs. Something like a low fat or non fat cheese or yogurt, peanut butter on a banana or apple...something along those lines! If you were just craving something salty, try and find lower fat items to fulfill that craving...popcorn, one serving of low fat pretzels, pickles!

What were you doing when you at the chips? Standing up, in the kitchen? I've found that I'm able to stop myself and think more fully about what I'm eating if I sit down with it in another room. Also, I'm less likely to grab more!

Whatever you do or decide, don't hate yourself. Everybody has those moments and it doesn't make you weak or stupid!

I so agree with foxxy511. everyone has those days, it is learning from them and not repeating the behaviour that is important...

Is there a lower fat option that you wouldn't feel guilty having? I switched from regular chips to Baked Lays, which has considerably less fat and calories. Also, for a snack I have a multigrain wasa cracker with laughing cow cheese. They have different flavors, but it's filling and you don't feel guilty having them.

Don't let one slip up derail you - you can get past this!

I simply can't keep that stuff in the house. If I want a bag of chips, I must buy a single serving and eat it with dinner.

When I get a late night snack attack (a few times a week), I go to the cabinet and see if someone salty or sweet has magically appeared in my kitchen. I have this fantasy that the sugar fairy left a candy bar in my pantry. The only quick to eat foods I have are vegetables and milk.

Recently, I wanted to eat and the only high carb option was whole wheat pasta. So I put a pot of water on to boil and logged onto 3FC. Ten minutes later the pot started to boil & the cravings had already passed so I didn't eat anything.

Good luck.

I still live at home ( can't afford not to ) and though te crisps are in a cupboard, I know they're there and just dive in. I can't seem to stop myself at just one bag either.

Mother won't stop buying them. She's all backwards. Gets the correct foods as I ask but then goes and buys their polar opposites which sit in the cupboards being a temptation. I could try hiding them at the back perhaps... But I'd still know.

I wasn't standing up when I felt the urge, I was watching a film. Where I am or how I'm positioned makes no difference with me, sitting or standing it's all the same sadly.

I'll have to try taking a walk maybe ( not the first thing I want to do after having walked 5 miles home from work and been to the gym after )

EDIT. I just had a craving and decided to do some stomach crunches instead. I'm also upstairs away from the food. I've done some crunches and reverse crunches , and now I'll drink a bottle of water and hope the crave goes away >.<

I'll try that for now. Go upstairs and do some crunches and maybe a go on my twist plate plus some water whenever I feel the crisp monster creeping up on me .

Know exactly how that goes. Just tonight, I had been good all day. As soon as my boyfriend left the house for the night I drove to the store, bought a pint of ice cream and ate the whole thing. It's like being under a spell. ugh.

For me, tv is a big part of the problem. I don't have cravings in any other instance than when I'm watching TV or movies. Maybe same for you? Oftentimes to avoid the binge, I just opt to go to bed because I know I'm far less likely to eat badly at the start of my day. If I still have things to do then I'll balance going to bed early with getting up early to finish them. I don't know if your schedule allows for this, but it's something that works for me.

Probably drink some Crystal Light. I had a craving one afternoon and I drank a glass of the Lemonade Crystal Light and the craving vanished.

Honey -- I totally understand about still living at home and having NO say over what comes in. I've learned that I can't control what others eat or bring around me, so I have to deal with it the best I can. Unfortunately, I haven't quite figured out how to do that! I also will "hide" the chips and cookies on the top shelf in the pantry, but I know they're there and when I give in to a binge, they're the first thing I eat. I've tried thinking about it as "their" food. I don't want my brothers eating my food that I buy for myself, so I shouldn't eat the food my mom buys for my brothers (even though I technically could). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! I have yet to find an answer to how to live at home and not eat/crave the junk that gets brought in.
