I think realistically I need to learn to have a healthy relationship with food. Thanks for your words, they rung home, much love.

I'm glad I could help.
And it doesn't sound bad that you're going to give the shakes to your dad. I think it's incredible that you've taken that step. I could never be vegan or vegetarian, I love my red meat too much!!
One day at a time. There's nothing wrong with loving food!
In addition to the changes I made, I've discovered a love of cooking! Most everything in my house is homemade- with the exception of a few pre-packaged foods (cereals, chips).
Last night, my husband wanted chinese. I didn't feel like eating it, but I got it anyway. However, I always get vegetable-based dishes, and drain out most of the sauce since that's where most of the calories are. He, on the other hand, ate most of his foo yung and 3 pieces of fried chicken (ugh; I can't stand watching someone eat fried chicken

). So, I went online and found some great Chinese recipes that aren't swimming in gravy. Next time he wants it, I'll just make it, rather than spend $30 on Chinese food and fried chicken.
As a side note, I think Tokoroa NZ is one of the largest consumers of fried chicken in the country. Nearly every one of the food outlets here serve it in some form or another. Nasty.
