Default nite time noshing is killin me!

Does anyone have any problem with eating right before they go to bed? Its been like this for me for years! I managed to go from 185 to 148 4 years ago, now im back to almost 200 pounds! Its from eating at nite ! Sometimes i feel like i cant control it! I know if i can stick to a diet for a few weeks to see a loss then i would be more motivated! Buts its so hard trying to start back up again! I even tried unisom to help me fall asleep so i wouldnt eat but found myself still eating even though i felt so grawgy! Can any one relate? is nite time hard for anyone else? I could really use some ideas!!!

This may not be a solution, first take it one minute at a time, keep your hands busy, and I have to stay far away from the kitchen. I would eat in front of the tv, so if I am having trouble, I don't watch television. The other thing that I have no choice in is to have none of my trigger foods in the house. I simply can not.

That is my danger zone time too.

I have found that usually for me its bcos I have not resolved 'something' during the day at work or in my personal life . . . so I am still angry/anxious/sad/mad/whateva when I walk through the door.

If I go to the gym, come home, have a shower and then do some stuff that makes me smile once I am in the door AND make sure that I eat a meal that I really love . . . then I find that need to eat after dinner less likely.

There's no actual formula, and some days are better than others, but usually I dont eat for non-physical hunger reasons if I am feeling happy and satisfied (not just physically or emotionally, but both).

I find posting helps to occupy me too as I dont eat when I am online.

I find that when I am bored at night,that is when the eating starts. Sometimes I will start writing down,what I am going to do the next day. Plan meals for the nent day. That sometimes helps.I also try to go to bed earlier. I take once in awhile Tylenol pm. It does work for me.

It's taken me FOREVER to stop night time snacking- I won't lie I still do it now and then. I now try to find things to keep my mind off food- like playing video games, reading a book, playing with my pets, and so on. I'll also drink water each time I feel hungry- half the time I'm really thirsty anyways! Definitely been keeping hydrated since then.

I started reading a book about food addiction (Conquer Your Food Addiction : The Ehrlich 8-Step Program for Permanent Weight Loss by Caryl Ehrlich) and omg since then my outlook has changed so much on food! And I haven't even FINISHED IT YET!

It can be an issue for me too but here are my thoughts:

* Try to stay with higher protein foods for dinner and watch you carb intake especially in the evening. It may help alot or not at all but you should know within a few days if it will help

* Stay well hydrated. I know getting up in the night to go to the restroom isn't good but I think staying well hydrated helps with hunger. Especially when I am tired or bored.

* Do you have a hobby, something you can do in the evenings? I knit intricate lace and find that when I am busy knitting I eat less.

I agree, keep busy. Eat protein at your last meal. Set a cut-off time. Meaning you can absolutely not have anything else to eat after that point. 2-3 hours before you go to bed is a good idea. Carbs help you sleep but if you eat simple carbs they will send you right back to the kitchen with hunger.

Drink some lemon water when the urge comes. Plus the lemon in the water is great for your digestive system overnight. (Cleopatra drank lemon water before bed as a beauty secret)

I struggle with night time eating too. Most of the time it's because I'm bored. I find that if I have a healthy dinner I am less likely to "screw it up" by snacking on junk later on. And I've tried to develop the habit of giving myself a pedicure whenever I really feel like eating when I'm not hungry. Something about the combo of scrubbing your feet (eww for me) and doing something to pamper yourself makes me lose my appetite. I guess we all have little tricks to deal - I hope you find your trick!

I am naturally a night time eater. The thing is, it doesn't matter WHEN you are eating--it matters WHAT you are eating. If you are staying within your target calories each day, it's perfectly fine if most of them are consumed in the evening. Such the case is with me.

I purposely "save" about 1/2 my calories for the evening. Even so, I have to watch it--those calories add up quickly! Find some lo-cal stuff you love. Mine lately is the Shiratake noodles (40 calories for WHOLE bag) heated up with low-fat cooking spray and cheese topping (under 100 calories). Grilled veggies with balsamic vinegar is also one of my faves as are egg whites. All pretty satiating and low-cal.

Hey, one other thing I wanted to add. When I was obese, I was staying up to very unreasonable times. I would eat late night when everyone else was sleeping. Now, I go to bed! Late night eating was solved!
