Default Exercise and Bingeing?

Hi Chicks in Control!
I have a question..

I have always walked.. (well for a couple of years anyway).. last week I added a workout almost every afternoon.. I did the FIRM crosstraining video.. it was VERY hard for me.. so I decided it was what I needed to be doing.. ( I was actually sore then next day but did it again.. I did it four days last week) it is lots of squats and lunges and also at the same time upper body weights. I could not do the entire hour.. but made it through 30 min four times last week.

I have been eating fairly well calorie wise.. (at least I think)..
my calories for last week were:

Last sat: 1400 even
Sunday - 1455
Monday - 1615
Tuesday - 1555
Wednesday - 1100
Thursday - 1375
Friday - 1279 (before the binge)

I had made it up to 1279 by 3:30pm and then I could not stop eating..
(I am going to post this in the "chicks in control thread" as well but wondered if an exercise thread could too could help.. because I wonder if it's related?

I am still very heavy.. maybe with the extra exercise my body was not getting enough food? (I have had a problem with bingeing before.. but not in quite some time)..

any advise? has this ever happened to anyone before?
Cary

ding ding ding! When you exercise, you burn up more calories and use up more energy, so you usually need to take IN more calories to support that activity. Almost ANYONE will tell you that on days that include an intense workout, they are hungrier than on more sedentary days. Even though exercise is actually a natural appetite suppressant, that effect only holds out for a couple of hours (if that), and then your body realizes you've used up more energu than usual and wants to refuel!

If your car normally goes 300 miles (24 hours) on 10 gallons of gas (X calories), then you can't expect to be able to add an additional 1/4 mile street race (intense workout) without having to add more gas, right?

Absolutely it is related.

If you use more energy, you'll crave more energy.

The trick is, get it from healthy sources like lowfat dairy and longlasting carbs.

Keeping your calories balanced through the day and week (eg, roughly the same amount per day, spread out in meals/snacks) will lessen binge urge.

Hi!

Little late with my answer....anyway. I guess I had quite the same problem last October. I started to do A LOT OF exercises (like in: more than two hours a day, six or seven times a week) and restricted calories. After a few weeks, I got sick. I got a flu, than a stomach flu, than a cold...Oh, and the results on the scale werenīt the way I wanted them to be.
The result was: I started binging again, gained weight....and because of another illness I had to stop exercising till now.

Whereīs my point? Ah, here: start with small steps and never starve yourself while exercising!

There was an Exercise- Challenge thread here some time ago....Maybe we should start a new one.

Hi Kate,

I totally agree.. I guess the smartest thing we can do is learn from our mistakes and move on!...

How is your exercise coming?
I think it's a great idea to start a challenge thread.. I don't do 2 hours a day.. more like 1 1/4.. but to me.. someone who has not done any REAL exercise in almost 10 years.. that's quite a challenge..

I could up my walking to 45 min (from 35).. I do need one day a week off of walking and probably Sat. and Sun off of any other "formal" exercise.. although my husband and I have started going on long walks on the weekend..

How amazing is Germany?
I love being able to talk to women from other countries..
what exercise do you do?

Oh god, I want to learn from today. I started off fine, went to the gym and did a great workout - part of it was running for 45 mins and I have NEVER ran 7.5km before in my life! Then I went and absolutely spoiled everything. I was just in a terrible couldn't-care-less mood. I want to get back on track and in the disciplined mindset again so bad. I just feel gross and absolutely stuffed now. Ugh. I can't wait to feel hungry again and make good choices and go to the gym tomorrow. I'm just so scared that today won't be the only big slip up. I know I ate enough to gain back a pound and seriously, if I did this for 14 days... that's all it would take to undo 14 weeks of hard work. To put back on everything I've lost. Please please don't let me give up on myself...

Ok, letīs start an exercise challenge thread!

I was bad with exercise today. But I am still a bit challenge because I suffered very much from a "Temporomandibular Disorder" in the last three months and I had to take a lot of pain killers and stuff to relax your muscles...So I am still a bit down. And the weather here is EXTREMELY HOT! Nearly 90 F (30 C) here! Very unusual.

I starting again with Pilates, walking/ cycling and some strength training and streching. But not everything at once! I learned from my mistakes!

Honestly, I donīt have a clue how amazing Germany is...for someone who lives here itīs normal. Boring. The USA are AMAZING But the part of Germany where I live (near Cologne) happens to be a very beautiful place.
