Default New to lowcarb diets

I have been trying to lose my weight for many years by eating low fat foods and also I have tried the whole grain breads, whole wheat pasta's and all that jazz and still Im fat. I told myself there has to be an answer. Ive obsessed about it and every new diet that comes along or new diet book I buy and disappointed. What will move this fat off me before it kills me? Ive tried everything else except low carbing and have decided to try the Hellers Carb Addicts diet first since I get one meal with carbs and slowly go over to maybe Atkins, I don't know. I don't know if I can even do it, but Im desperate and I can just feel myself getting diseases and maybe diabetes if I don't do something now. Any words of encouragement I would love to hear. I am not a young woman. Im 59 so its probably even impossible for me to lose weight anyway, but I want to try. I ate being fat and miserable all the time and worrying about my health. Also I don't have any energy to exercise and I know I need to exercise to lose weight. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest...barb

Hey welcome aboard. I have to say I am 46 and feeling healthier than I have ever been except when i was 40 and had done low carb, then I was really healthy. I lost the ground when I had to go to work in a really stressful job. ( am still there but have decided to regain control over my life.)

So botom line is yes you can you are not too old to do any thing. give CAD a try and see how you feel you may just end up total low carb like most of us did. Many people have also gone the south beach way and have done great. To me this is simplest no counting no judging and just plain great feeling. and yes diabietes is looming in my future as cardiac issues cholesterol and many others. I see all of it melting farther and farther away as I low carb my way to health.

Welcome and join us in the daily/weekly

My friend Cheryl did Atkins and she lost a lot of weight and she doesnt exercise. The thing is that the more weight that you lose, the more active you will become.

Low carb will do it. Assuming you can stick to it. It does get hard at times for those of us who are real carb addicts. I don't much like the Heller's plan. I never could do it that way although I did love the idea. Atkins works much better. But then you also lose more water weight with Atkins so that if you do go off low carb, you do gain back quite a bit quickly. It is all water weight and comes back off quickly too, but it is a bit of a shock to see how rapidly you gain with only one day off.

I also tried the Carbohydrate Addicts plan and could not do it. I lost weight on Atkins and am losing slower on the Smart Low Carb plan from Prevention.
