Let's talk green tea.

  • I remember reading somewhere that green tea was working great for someone (Robin???). So I bought some blueberry green tea and of course I found a way to cheat with it.

Last night I mixed 1/4 cup of low carb milk (2 carbs) and some sugar free vanilla flavoring. I drank FIVE CUPS of it last night, it was SOOOOOO GOOD.

    So my questions...

Do you mix anything in with your tea?

How many cups do you drink a day?

Will non-spiked green tea throw you off of ketosis?

Is green tea an atkins accepted thing?

Thanks...I'd love to have about 10 more cups of it but am not sure if it will throw me off or not

  • I drink at least 24 oz. every day (I used it to replace my afternoon coffee). I drink a 12 oz. cup with 1/2 pk Splenda, nothing else, and I like it. The tea comes flavored, and since I get the flavors w/o sugar, I count each cup as 1 carb. I didn't notice any difference in weight loss w or w/o the tea, I drink it because I like it, and because there are so many less carbs than in my coffee.
  • I dont drink it for the so called "weight loss" effects....I drink it for how it makes my skin look. I notice a huge difference in the sparkle in face when I drink it.

I drink plain green tea with 1/2 a tsp of splenda, or the zen green tea from starbucks plain, and in the summer, I drink it with fresh squeezed lemon and splenda.
  • yes, Robin, it was you I wasn't thinking about drinking it for any weight loss effects but more for something to calm me down in the evenings (I know it has caffeine, but it's warming qualities work well on me for sleep).

Do you think it's an atkins approved thing for induction and do you know if you can stay in ketosis while drinking it??

I might just have to test it out and see if I stay in ketosis
  • I take a green tea pill. I just started. If I could drink the tea I would (time is a problem) cause there is evidence that it is better than just taking the supplement. Or maybe it's just the way i read it but I believe there is an advantage to the tea over the pill from the evidence I read. . I am also finding chromium to be very important, but am not sure if taking it as a individual supplement is worth it or if amounts in a multivitmain is enough. It would be okay to add something to the tea as long as u count the calories. Try drinking the tea right before or after u eat so u don't have a reason to add any extras to it, cause u will know u will be eating or have eaten already.

I'm on induction and in ketosis, and I drink at least two cups per day

BTW, they make decaf Earl Gray green tea (just green tea w/oil of bergamot), and I drink that at night because it's sooooo soothing.

  • you can get decaf green tea.....I drink salada decaf in the evenings. ....and yes, it does have a calming effect. I read that someplace and was surprised to see that it was documented......thought it was just me

Regarding the pills, I did a bit of research about them, and the pills are basically (from what I understand) ground up tea leaves in pill form. If you are going to take it as a supplement, you are actually better of to take it in the extract form. But I prefer the tea, just the making and drinking of it I find very soothing....and satisfying. BUT, I found it very difficult to find extract or pilled green tea in decaf....I could only find it online.

To answer your question about induction...I agree with Tenn....I havent had any trouble with it at all. If anything it helped (mentally for me anyway)
  • i just ordered green tea 300. its a powder drink and a patch. its supposed to be 5x more potent than regular green tea. I should get it in the mail soon. Have you all heard of this? Tell me what you think.
