Default want to be thin by 30 and new here

I'm on day 4 of induction. Doing okay. The last 3 days were horrible. Had to bite my lip to keep from eating all of the holiday goodies I've been making for everyone else. My goal is to loose most of my weight by my birthday in March. I'm new here and found the website today while doing a little research on lowcarb dieting any hints/suggestions or help is welcome. My husband is also on the Atkins plan with me-but he is whining terribly and I don't think he's going to last. I'll update more as I loose the weight.

Plan to exercise 6 days a week!

Hiya Zoomom, welcome!

Just curious... Is there a reason you're making goodies that you two can't eat? That seems like unnecessary torment! Every year I make turtles, truffles, peanut brittle, etc., but not this year! I decided that my health and overall well-being are more imporant than a few people's being disappointed that don't get goodies from me

Welcome zoomom! That's wonderful you have done so well. I'm not sure if you have this already, but "The Atkins' New Diet Revolution" is a very good book to have, and it's around only $5.00 and well worth that. He answers all the "what if's" "why's" and "how to's" of eating out, what to do around tempting foods, health issues, well just every situation; it's got everything you need to know for this diet.

Planning is the biggest way to keep control. Some of the ideas I have followed that have worked are keep a "pocket full" of Macadamia nuts in your pocket when around these tempting foods, at a wedding, holiday, workplace, or party.

Even mixed nuts are better than eating the goodies. We eat them in the car, so we don't want to buy candy bars, chips, etc. When you see something you can't have, pop a macadamia in your mouth; They are very filling.

Also, cheese is a handy food to have around, like single serving String Cheese. Salami or pepperoni can help in a pinch. It's amazing, just a few pieces, and you're full.

At a party, even if you have to eat something off of stage 2, 3 or 4 of the food list, do that rather than eating the goodies. You may eat more carbs than you are allowed at the time but they will be allowed carbs, and you won't be thrown off kilter from eating the wrong foods and won't have to start over. I think there is a substitute for everything, and if not, eat more of an allowed food to fill you up. There's a lot of recipes in this book, along with recipes on atkins.com., there are great recipes here on this forum as well.

Just guessing, if your husband is not liking the diet, he may not be eating enough. Let him get full on foods off the "free'' Induction list. He also should really give it two weeks to fully kick in. That's really not that long to see if one wants to make a life time change. This is explained in the book.

My husband is on Atkins' with me too which makes it much easier to plan and cook, and for both of us, it works to have a plate of Atkins recipe ribs in the refrigerator, or chicken, beef, pork, whatever you like. When following this diet, it's amazing how just one or two bites of meat will fill you up. "Dr. Atkins' Quick and Easy New Diet Cookbook is the companion the the New Diet Revolution." We always have nuts, a variety of cheeses, pepperoni home made cream cheese spreads made, and there's lots of appetizers you can make ahead of time. Don't use seasonings, catsup, tomato pastes or sauces other than what is allowed in your stage. Stay away from sugars. Atkins' has yummy "Coconut Cookies" you can bake with just .9 grams of carb per cookie, 20 cookies in the batch.

Have variety of dinners for him. Be creative with crustless pizza, taco salad, home made Atkins salad dressings, crustless cheesecake. The creamed chicken with mushrooms taste just like a meat pie, minus the crust, and the Stirfried Pork with Water chestnuts is great if you want Asian flavors. Make him the Atkins' Garlic Dill meatballs. There are also cream sauces for meat dishes. Omlettes make a nice meal or snack with little or no carbs.

Lastly, one more important thing to me, is for me to check in here for all the support and understanding you need. This makes a difference in how I stick to it. Well, I've gone on forever, LOL so hopefully something here helps you out. Hope to see you in the daily chat thread.

Oh...I totally understand you wanting to lose your weight before your birthday..they say that it gets harder after 30..I still have 3 yrs...but...I can feel the metabolism trying to slow down (I say trying because I AM NOT LETTING IT!) But, Atkins is awesome...I just started too...

Talk to you later,
Sarah

Thanks for the replies. I know its torture but my kids aren't on the diet with me and neither are my neighbors and friends/family. My husband is doing better. I told him the first 3 days were supposed to be the worst. It ended up being the first 4 days for us. But now its amazing. Cravings gone, loosing weight like crazy! Very excited. We are both going to take Christmas day off. I know that sounds terrible but we commited to doing this for lifetime (exeption of our own individual birthdays, Christmas, and our honeymoon.) So we will take that day off and then go back on induction. I have lost more weight now down to 163 but I can't figure out how to reset the weight tracker on the bottom-do I make a new one each time?

Zoomom: and WTG on the weight loss! You're doing awesome!! Definitely watch the days off....because it's harder to jump back on the LC wagon. I'm not saying don't take days off..just be careful to get back on track after!
As for the tracker...just take your starting weight number and change it to the current weight. The tracker does (or should) do the rest. Welcome again!

I read that 'harder after 30 thing too' But I weigh less right now than I did when I was 20....so I'm not sure about the whole 30 theory now....
