How do you resist any sort of temptation? How do you turn in the wallet that you found laying on the sidewalk instead of grabbing the credit cards out of it and going shopping? How do you turn down the perfectly desirable person that makes an 'offer' instead of starting a little fling on the side? How do you send your child to a time out instead of beating the stuffing out of them?

Shall I continue?

So the real question is: why is food any different? We make certain choices and turn away from certain temptations because we know the consequences and we don't like them. So if you feel better (emotionally and physically) and look better when you make good food choices and you feel like crap and gain weight when you make bad food choices, how tempting is it really?

Brenda - It just depends on the day. There have been days that I can easily walk away from a box of CAKE DONUTS!!!! But then there are other days that no matter what I do I can't stay away from the sweets. I honestly think that we can get our eating into a disciplined habit and we will still always slip because we are human. It's the emotional angle playing in here. But I also believe that it takes less and less time to "jump back on the Plan" the longer you practice your better WOE!

Star, I don't think that was too preachy at all. You are right. There are times I'd like to beat the stuffing out of my sweet little hellion - and then I know it's time to stick her in her "Containment Unit" and let her scream until I can get her to calm down and ME to calm down.

Why can't I stick sweets into a mental "containment unit" until they go away. =)

Half of the problem with not giving into temptation is simply that we weren't raised that way. Think about it, for the longest time your parents probably said if you finished all of your supper you could have desert. These foods have become rewards, something to strive for. How many of you ever "rewarded" yourself for doing something well with ice cream or a piece of cake or your favorite food. We're talking YEARS of learning these foods are ok and you should treat yourself. The problem is that more and more convenience foods are everywhere and people these days never even learned to eat healthy in the first place!! I thought I could cook well until I realized everything I ate came out of a box!

My point is that it takes a LOT of retraining to overcome that many years of something not being "bad." Don't kick yourselves if you mess up.... blame this one on your mom and dad... it's their fault!! :P

The un-doing is sooo much harder than the doing!

Okay, next Monday let's start the goal log for the week and maybe that will help us stay on track. Small steps each week...

This did trigger an interesting conversation. Ya'all have good input!

I'm sure we'll all figure this eating/food trigger thing some day. I just wish today was my day.

I grew up always being told I was fat. My mom always wanted me to go on this or that diet with her. So part of my problem is that food is a control thing. I control how much I put in my mouth and to say "you can't have that" Is what makes me want it more. I need to learn that I don't WANT it. And if it takes me the rest of my life to learn that lesson so be it. I've learned to say "I don't want it" to cookies. Why during special occasions is it so hard?

Because during special situations we just want to "fit in". After all everyone else is doing it!

I guess we all just have to learn to love ourselves enough to not care if we are different at the party, bring our own snacks. I mean...after this much time being on this WOE...how many people at the party KNOW you eat differently anyway!
