I've been on induction (well, mostly) since the beginning of january. And the book says you can stay on as long as you need to lose a lot of weight. but no less than 2 weeks

Frodo - It does get easier. The first 2 weeks are the hardest but you won't believe how good you will feel by the end of that second week. When you add back a few carbs after your induction phase...your body and weight loss will tell you how many carbs you can handle and still continue to lose safely. Don't worry about it now - just stick with the plan for 2 weeks and then see how you are feeling. GOOD LUCK - It is the best plan I have ever been on...and I've been on them all I'm afraid.

If you read the book you will see that there is no "regular Atkins" There are 4 phases: Induction, OWL (ongoing weightloss), pre-maintenence and maintenence. He stresses the importance of doing each phase, although you can stay on Induction as long as you like.

Atkins is supposed to be a way of eating for the rest of your life, not just a diet to swing back and forth from (like yo-yo dieting). Depending on how much weight I lose in these 2 weeks I will probably stay on Induction until I lose at least half of my weight but probably closer to 3/4 of it.

Hope that helped! And it DOES get easier each day

I'm going to stay on induction until I get down to my goal...after that, I will slowly start to add more carbs.
It's the type of diet you can do for the rest of your life.

They don't suggest you gorge yourself and then go back on induction like a yoyo. Eventually you'll be metabollically resistant (if I remember correctly). If you slip up once in a while (like on Easter, Halloween, etc) they recommend going back on induction for a few days or until the pounds you gained are gone and then go back to where you left off (level).

I called the Atkins hotline a while back, and asked them how long was safe to stay on induction. They said that you can stay on in as long as you aren't bored, and safely until you are w/in 15 lbs of your goal weight. Hope this helps!

After easter I am going to do onlyone more week of induction (I know I will have a little too much wine on the holiday!!) and then I am going to start OWL!
