Ok I am reading all about it on atkins.com I don't really know what the book has more then the website.. because I have gotten most of the info off there they even had a sample menu for me...
"These are the foods you may eat liberally during Induction:" Does this mean I can eat as much as I want? They didn't set limits out here for me! This will screw me over because I will sit down for a nice meal of 40 chicken breasts and then learn I got screwed over...
Next, I am planning on bringing a salad every day to work I work from 12-8 so i go from lunch -> dinner.
My idea is to bring a big salad, and then bring a snack, my idea was one of those controled shake things? Carb controled Shakes I think is the proper name? Do these follow in the same catagory as the advantage bars?
This is what I am going to be doing ->
BREAKFAST ( 4-5 egg whites ) and some sort of meat like sausage or something.
Lunch -> The BIG SALAD with cheese and chicken and some kinda dressing ( what do you suggest? )
Dinner ->
Lots of chicken or beef with some cheese possibly? Maybe I will also put some vegtables in but I will probably use up my daily dose of vegtables in the salad to make sure I'm full
SNACK: While at work ( a shake? and some fried chicken breast I will bring )
Thanks again guys, I promise soon I will stop making all these threads!
Since I kicked your butt that that damn monkey game again, I figure I can help you out here.
* You are not limited on how much you eat, but be reasonable. I recommend a single portion. If you're still hungry, then wait 20 or 30 minutes. If you're still hungry after that, then eat more. You'll have to learn to distinguish real hunger from dissatisfaction hunger (aka, body wants carbs so it's not happy)
* Stay away from the shakes and other "convenience" foods. First, they tend to have lots of sugar alcohols. Second, they do nothing to teach healthy eating habits.
* Your menu plan looks ok. I personally never worried about eating too many veggies. Better too much than not enough! Read the labels on your salad dressings to make a decision there. And remember that 2 tbsp is normally a serving of dressing, so no dousing!
* You may want to think about doing things other than salads for some of your veggie goodness. Stir fries are a favorite of mine. Lots of potential for variety there!
* Oh! And why just the egg whites? What's wrong with the whole egg?
* Finally - if you haven't done so already, read the FAQ that's up there in the stickies. There's tons of good info for you there.
Good Luck! Come post with us on the other threads, too
I would stay away from the shakes and bars, especially during induction but you know that. Sugar alcohols are evil. Atkins clearly states to eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed. The book has more of the science behind the plan in it but you can get most of the important info on the website. Why not eat whole eggs? It'll give you the fat you need to keep you from getting hungry. And it has been proven that they contain good cholesterol. Remember it is a high fat, low carb, moderate protein diet. I loved the plan, if I had more time to cook and the interest in cooking, and if my bf would join me so I don't have to make 2 meals, it would be my ideal plan. Good luck!
No that was a hard one for me. But a lot of stores have low carb ketchup you can get. There are no stores near me that sell that stuff for a reasonable price but you might be able to find one. I know super walmarts have lots of low carb substitutes like that. I think it would have made the plan easier if I had access to them. Also if you like pasta, try konnyaku noodles, I hear they are great. Not exactly the same but good. You can get them at Japanese groceries etc. Also if you like potatoes so much, you can try the faux mashed potatoes with cauliflower, the recipe might be on here I am not sure but if not just do a search for low carb recipes, it is pretty much a staple. YUMMMM!!
Ok thanks! I will also look at the recipes on atkins website...
Well I am not really caring too much about changing up the diet very much I will just cook some sort of meat with seasonings that are allowed every day and eat it through out the day simple enough! And a salad for lunch....
Snacks: hard boiled/deviled eggs, small pieces of cheese, pepperoni sticks, veggies and dip, pork rinds, peanut butter (after induction), nuts after induction. Those are all good snacks during induction and after.
Well I made my dip from full fat sour cream or cream cheese. I am trying to remember if that is allowed on induction. Might want to check on that. I put a little onion soup mix in my dip but I am sure you can get others with less carbs. for the amount I put in, it is about 1 carb, You are supposed to stay with just the allowed foods during induction though. Pepperoni s allowed. It has a lot of salt but it is still good, if you can get nitrate free, even better. Read the labels though because some people put fillers in them, Butchers are the best to buy from. Deep fried pepperoni is good too. I like to have that when at a pub when everyone else is eating junky stuff I can't have. Feels like I am joining in too. All in moderation tho, don't be having numerous plates full, :-)
I never worried about eating too many veggies at once. In fact my lettuce salads are probably STILL over! I have this habit of eating too much yet I think. I'm still stuffing myself during days I eat too late (as in not my normal supper time). Might want to watch that one. You'll do great!
I am starting tomorrow too. I know you have heard this a billion times, but read the book. You will understand soooooo much more about everything. How to do it, what to eat, why and when and how. Goodluck!
yes well I have the esencials down, I will try and read the book this weekend though! nothing else planned! ( I have stopped drinking now officially as well ).
I do have a question about the SALAD DRESSING, I should be using I see OIL is ok! but viniger? Or what should I do? Tips please?
