Kokoloo WOW! That article was really an eye opener. I read other ones on the site as well. I would highly recommend this web site to anyone doing carb counting. I loved the article about the rules of induction. Now it makes sense!

I have a couple of cups of tea each day with Splenda and I have not been counting that. I also have a caffeine free diet soda at lunch and haven't been counting that either! No wonder I can't get past induction!!!!!!!

Thank you again.

Leens, when I'm feeling hungry like that, it usually means that I need to have something with fat in it. It may be some cheese, or even whipped cream with some splenda and cocoa powder....something like that. If the chocolate and sweet makes you crave, that probably wouldnt be a good choice.

What I'm finding out about low carbing is that if you crave something, you are either addicted to it (meaning you have to cut it out) or you need vitamin supplementation (meaning you need to get more vitamins). I'd try cutting out the item first but if you still crave after a few weeks, try the vitamins.

Heres a link to a site where it outlines the craving and which vitamin/mineral may be deficient.

Jane, your welcome

Kokoloo -

Thank you so much for the sugar alcohol insight! After I read that article, I decided to try cutting sugar alcohols out for a little bit. Suddenly, my 3 week plateau was over and I'm now losing close to 1/2 a pound a day. I can't believe it!

You're a life saver!

I must have missed this thread when it first came up...it's a good point.

Lacitol. After eating enough of it, I'm pretty sure I know exactly how to pronounce it, as it's very fitting.

I've found that the longer I've been on Atkins, the more a couple of the sugar alcohols seem to affect my stomach. Early on, none of it affected me. I still lost weight consistently, and it never bothered my stomach. Most still don't bother me, and the ones that do just cause a little bit of an upset-stomach feeling, but have no other effects. Lacitol is the only one that has actually made me sick in any way.

So far, Hershey's is the only one I know of using Lacitol. The Russell Stoffer candies seem to use mostly malitol and others that agree well with my stomach.

Well I have been doing a sugar alcohol "experiment". Have a small bag of sf gummy bearsi n my drawer at work for "emergencies". They do have maltitol in them which does have that nasty effect on me....and lots of gas noises as well!

I have found out that I can tolerate about six of those suckers....after that clear the way!. Had six yesterday pm...then wanted a few more...so maybe had 9-10...which about 1.5 hours later resulted in a trip to the washroom...maybe one minute per gummy bear? lol

So I have to be careful and REALLY WANT them...or else. I also am very leery of sugar alcohols and don't really believe the net carb grams on most of the lc products.
