Bob, that's great to hear about your sister....I was really surprised that the height didn't bother me, I was so focused on staying up there and safe that the height never even entered my mind...
|
Bob thats good news about your sister. I hope she finds something that works for her that she can stick with.
Ilene that looks so exciting! I think it would be neat to do but I dont think I could go threw with it. I have a thing with heights. I forget who had posted the broccoli mix used as a substitute for pasta. I tried that tonite as a side with the pork chops. I dont think I cooked them long enough but I will defiantly try it again. I boxed up the left overs so I can have them at lunch tomorow. Today was my 3rd day in a row running with DS. I did not do as well today, I had to stop to walk a few times. I tried to power walk it but he did not find that amusing. I might have to take tomorow off unless I get a really good nites sleep tonite. |
Good morning!
DH woke yesterday thinking he'd been dreaming about bacon. LOL! I left him some today too. That worked really well yesterday. I did have an HB egg at noon just because I thought I ought to eat something. Grabbed some pork rinds on the way home. Left over crockpot vegetables and sausage for supper. More pork rinds and one of those green tea ginger ales for bedtime snack. Somewhere in there a box of strawberries disappeared too. If I have to work 12 today (they tell me I might) I think I can buy some fruit in the cafeteria and I always have my HB eggs ;) Yesterday would be a pretty good day to put into fitday and see what's what. I'm not sure when I'm going to do that ... |
Ilene - what great photos! I’ve never heard of ziplining, but it looks like so much fun. I too am scared of heights (how did this happen growing up in Iowa?) but I can go up to about 25 feet before the “scared” kicks in. This has always seemed odd to me as you can die just as easily at 25 ft. as 50 ft, but that’s the way she blows.
Hey Bob - are you a writer by trade? Can’t wait to read your blog. Wildviolets - pretty name. You know, when I am super-stressed I have a relaxation tape that really grounds me, and is a weight loss tape to boot! Also, online there is a very short relaxation tape at http://www.quietmindcafe.com/simple-relaxation.html that I find helps too. You running ladies are awesome. Susan - I have never tried pork rinds, are they good? Kathy - your eating looks fine to me. |
Kathy -- Running every day is hard on a person... Maybe only running every second day would be best.... I rarely run two days in a row unless I have to...
DH, DD and I are all scared of heights and we discussed this afterwards that once we were up there, the main thing was just to stay focused balancing on the boards so much so that we all forgot our fear of heights... It feels so good to be off today :D ... Went and got a much needed hair cut, clean house , running at 2pm... Yesterday food was NOT primal :( today it will be :D |
Good afternoon. My daughter saw Paula Dean make breakfast in a 12 ounce glass and insisted I try to make it for her. On the bottom was mashed potatoes covered with a layer of thin sliced steak which was covered with a layer of scrambled eggs that was covered with a layer of melted cheddar cheese. Dig in with a spoon like an ice cream sundae. I made one for me too, easy on the taters,of course.
I broke yesterday's fast at 24 hours not wanting to sleep on an empty stomach again. That's a small pity because I know I wake up lighter when I do that. I didn't eat much yesterday. Mostly fats. Three slices of swiss cheese melted into crackers with a little piece of ham on each cracker. I get 4 crackers per slice, so 12 crackers shared one slice of cut up ham. Then I had a bowl of zucchini that was cooked in pork fat rich tomato sauce and topped with mozzarella. I've been craving zucchini for a few weeks. CJ -- I can't call myself a professional writer. My formal education is in finance and accounting, my career direction is sales and marketing, most recently helping companies get better online exposure. The tomato/organic farming thing was serious when I had acreage in San Diego, but it's just an experimental hobby these days (desert agriculture is interesting to say the least). I have written a few hundred articles over the years (some for pay most for pleasure) and even a novel no publisher would pick up. I like research, writing and reporting and probably should have made that my career. Who knows maybe all this weight loss will inspire me to pursue that dream too? Pork rinds are an acquired taste, imo. I'm not a huge fan, but the plain ones are a primal snack that give me something to dip into guacamole. You can smash them up and use them as breading for pork, fish and chicken too. |
I love pork rinds although they're kinda hard to find around here. They have that certain crunch that is missing from low carb. Too calorific to eat everyday tho'.
I made it through my 12 hour yesterday with HB eggs, pork rinds and 7up :) When I got home DH  had grilled steaks  I was in bed by 7:45. |
I'm afraid to ask....what are pork rinds actually? I saw a low carb cooking show that used them in a meat loaf.
I bought 2 dozen big cookies for a friend who was coming over with her 5 kids. Bad mistake. She never ended up coming and I've been eating them like crazy. Now I have the WORSE headache. I'm going to try to go all weekend without sugar. It's so hard for me. But I have to. I have so much to do today and I just want to stay in bed. ugh. CJZee....thanks for the relaxation site....I'll check it out when my head stops hurting. Ilene..... you are a wild woman! The zip lining looks crazy! But fun. |
Hello my little Primal friends
Violet, will we ever learn about sugar's side effects  the other day after ziplining we had a nice lunch at a cafe, I had a spinach salad with smoked salmon :hun: delish!! Beside this restaurant there was a bakery that everyone was going in and out of... So of course we had to go see... Cutest littel bakery ever! So we got 3 of those ginormous cookies, DD had one on the way home, I had TWO bites TWO... It made me pass out the rest of the way home, a 2 hour ride, I could not stay awake, the rest of my day was awash too... Made me so angry that I had given into the sugar :tantrum: Today I had a wonderful breakfast... cut up peach, half avocado, 1/4c coconut milk, 1/4c full fat yogurt, 12 almonds chopped, 1T flaxseed.... and 2 boiled eggs on the side... I have to share this YouTube video about boiled eggs, it works too, I tried it this morning... Ok, gotta bring DD to work... TTFN  |
Pig skin, lard and salt. Nice and crunchy!
Someone brought us brownies today. I don't even really like brownies. Yeesh! |
I used to like brownies. If I ate one now, I'm afraid I would twirl in circles for an hour then spend the next 12 with a throbbing headache. Not worth it.
Yesterday I ate leftover grilled t-bone with big pile of very fatty cooked spinach and onions. That was lunch. For dinner I had a big pile of primal. Kale, spinach and collards cooked down in a half cup of coconut oil and the grease of 2 strips of bacon with some latin spices. I poached two eggs on top of the greens with the bacon on top chopped finely. I ate this with fresh tomato, onion, avocado and sour cream. I have no idea what to call it or why I cooked it but I will cook it again. It slid out of the pan in one big round plate covering serving and the egg yolks made a sauce in the greens that worked for me. I also got in a 12 mile hike yesterday. Ankles were aching for the last mile just like old times. I cooled down in the pool and ended up splashing about in the water for a couple hours after dark. I think I could have slept in the water last night. Being weightless is a great feeling when the bones are aching. I hate this desert most of the time, but the stars here are incredible at night, epecially floating on your back in a pool. It felt primal whatever that means. Pork rind meat loaf. I like it! Will give it a try soon. No food for me today, I think. Er, I did have a little vodka/coffee drink at lunch. My arm was twisted! |

The bad thing was the type of oil the fajitas were cooked in ... the restaurant on the COVER of its menu proudly says it uses canola oil, arghghg. Don't know how to get around this. Anyway, I wanted to eat the whole thing, but I stopped about halfway through and asked for a to-go box. I think today I will mix all the leftovers into an omelet stuffing. Should be interesting. |
Made it. I'm back. I've been out in the world dealing with one life crisis which spread to several. All is well now but I went all over the map with the eating and am coming down from some carbs today.
The minute I started back eating carbs I felt awful and right now have a banger headache, blazing reflux, and world class joint pain. I could sleep for a month! So tonight is taco salad minus the corn chips. Lots of fluids. Lots of sleep. No idea what I weigh, will weigh in Monday... Bob--interested in genetics? I work in a molecular medicine lab, epigenetics is probably my favorite topic in the field... Back to the fray! Spanks |
Hi Spanks,
Glad you're back and getting on track. All the aches and pains others constantly report is enough to keep me from the grains. I've said I would have my pizza on occasion and I probably will, but it will be rarely. Mark Sisson like to remind us primals that the true basis behind Primal Blueprint is epigenetics. I had never heard of it until this past April. It is definitely one of my favorite subjects. I am reading The Genie in Your Genes and will probably finish it this weekend. Great stuff. I'm jealous of your work! |
Today was a stressful day. But I did good diet wise, not so good yesterday. I broke down & had a blue bunny ice cream cone. It was the only bad thing I had for a few days. Tomorow I am making a pork loin. My neighbors & I go back & forth to inviting each other over for dinner. They called early this morning to invite us over tonite which was funny cuz I was planning on inviting them for tomorow. I asked them what else they would like - ds & them said corn on the cob & either potato salad or rice pudding. Both of which I should stay away from. I'm not sure what else I will make that is good for me.

Well, I managed another alternate day fast with no issues. I broke it with one of these giant omelets I keep reading about. I had 6 eggs, with bell pepper and onion cooked in a combo of butter and bacon grease, topped with guacamole and bacon with about a 5 oz. of roast beef on the side. I ate a little beef jerky later in the day around 3pm, but have no interest in dinner now. The breggfast was actually much more than I needed. I can manage this calorie restriction thing better if I stop obsessing about what I am NOT eating. Just a little over a week before I weigh. I am way more curious this month than the past two. I keep getting nice comments and being asked how much I have lost, but I'm not at all satisfied with the way I look. In the mirror without my shirt I look as bad as ever as far as I can tell. Long long way to go yet.

Hi! I finally sat down and calculated my calories and I'm doing something like 50% fat, 25% protein, and 25% carbs. Does that sound about right? What percentages do you all eat?
|
I keep meaning to put a couple days into Fitday but never get around to it. What's happening Kamesennin? Energy? Hunger? Weight loss? Belly size?
Apparently the book Primal Blueprint is very hard to find around here. A coworker (JG) has been waiting for my book for over 2 weeks. Can't find her own in stores. Never shops on the internet. She and her sister just started cutting carbs by gosh and by golly on Monday. Oh she did read some at MDA. She was just about begging for the book yesterday so I marched my big burly self down to Becky's office and demanded my book back. I threatened to find her street address and come and get it myself! Becky will have lost weight yesterday if laughter uses calories. Yup, I'm that threatening :sumo: But she did call her DH to bring the book in. And JG was sooo excited! I had leftover roast beef in an omelet yesterday too! Flung some weights around and was on the elliptical for 35 minutes total. That's not that hard. I really should be doing that 3 or 4 times a week. This morning I'm seeing the consequences of my carbfest on Thursday. A 48 hour delay really brings home to me that there is something else afoot other than calories in and calories out. I think I've always known that the quality of our calories makes a difference. Now I'm absolutely certain that it may be even more intricate and personal than that. |
Anybody have suggestions on a multiple vitamin? I don't like to take iron so it's hard to find and then I just don't know which brand to get. Maybe it's not even necessary but i always feel like it fills in the what I'm missing.
I"m not sure if this is primal due to the salami, but I've been eating this for the last 3 days as I still have my headaches and it's comfort food. I saute some salami in a pan, crack an egg and add cheese. Fat, fat, and more fat but oh so tasty!! |
I used to take the One A Day for weightloss. The last time I went out the store was sold out so I bought the store brand multi vitiaman. That was a mistake, I felt sick the rest of the day after I took it. I have not mustered up enough to take it again. I have felt good without taking anything but I am sure it would be a good idea to take something as well.
|
I sporatically take a multi, I'm sure everone needs if no matter which food plan you're on....
|
I just found out that my girl friends chose a Mexican restaurant for our girl night tomorrow --- ugh. I will have to resist both the tantalizing CHIPS and the mouth watering MARGHARITAS!
And, what can I order to eat?? I love Mexican, but it doesn't seem to be a great choice for primal eating. And I know this place doesn't have good salads -- a few slivers of iceberg is the basis for their salads. Any ideas? Thanks and hope all are well! |

I've been catching up on all your posts the past week and half...sounds like everyone is having a great summer and eating good!
I wish I was coming back from vacation lighter...but I used up my 20% plus some these past 10 days, I did eat good in the morning and had lots of fresh seafood(either raw or steamed) but I definitely consumed too much BEER! way too much beer! What is it about vacation and the beach that makes the drinks run freely. I splurged on a funnel cake, a cannoli and a few other sugary treats. My ankles are so swollen from the beer its ridiculous, and the 1x I had fried food on our trip I thought my insides were going to explode. I am so looking forward to my normal routine and eating starting tomorrow. The beach we were at has an almost 5 mile boardwalk when you go to the end and back so I did get plenty of walking in, and I got plenty of vit D(no burn though) and most importantly the kids had a great time in the ocean and on the rides. I'm looking forward and not stepping on the scale until the end of the month. I know once the extra sodium and water gets flushed I'll feel much better. |
koceank29- Sounds like you had a good time. Maybe the scale will be nice since you were constantly on the go.
I have been on an avocado kick lately. I really like it in my eggs. I will saute them up with everything else that I am putting in my omelet. The last avocado I bought was not ripe enough & I found that doing that softened it up enough. I have not been doing the best eating wise this weekend but I was down a lb. This weekends eating will probably catch up to me in another day or two. |
Kara, sounds like you had a good time...
Tyma, I love avocado too, today I made avocado chocolate pudding :hun: yummy... Today was a good day, I ran for 45 mins, weight trained for 25, was very Primal except for one glass of wine.... It's all good... I'm going away for almost 3 days to a Yoga camp so I won't be on line for that time, probably back on-line on Wednesday night... |
Morning everyone!
Nibble of this, nibble of that ... has added up to too many carbs for me this weekend. My hands and face are puffy. But I did do lots of walking! Somedays I fully understand why folks eat so much take-out food. I have chicken legs in the crock and my bacon and eggs are cooking ... and it's 5:30 am. |
Today I'm going to look for a couple of really good "pond" pictures. There is a pond catalog that my fiance would like to submit a few pictures to, I know it would thrill him if one of the pond pictures would make it in the catalog, so I am going to look through my files and see if I can come up with a few that would work.
My sweetie is a crazy gardener and has a small pond he built four or five years ago with a little waterfall. He has planted hundreds of plants around it so it is really lush and natural looking, just beautiful. Over the years, I have taken photos of it, the flowers, the water lilies, the dragonflies, the little birds which wash in the waterfall, the goldfish, the reflections. It changes every day. |
CJZee.....that sounds beautiful! You should post your pics here for us to see!

Hey there!
I forgot to weigh in this morning. But, since yesterday was my birthday, the CAKE probably won't have helped much! We did go out to a steak house where I could get a good London Broil, it was after the CAKE part that I fell off the board. My hands are puffed up like a catchers mitt--but today is on target so far. Does anyone here make up their own workouts like you see on MDA? I was watching some videos from the site and found a thread on SimpleFit that had some interesting before and after pics and a really simple workout...so far I've just upped my own weigh workout intensity and stayed with my exercise bike. Anyone see the video with the guy in his garage punching tires? It reminded me of the old Rocky movie! Bob--the work as it's done in a clinical lab isn't nearly as interesting as my 27 years in a toxicology lab. It's little different from any other specialized lab stuff. But reviewing the epi literature is how I stay interested. CJZee-we want pics! Onward to Primal! Spanx |
Oh my! I'm cleaning up my fitday account. You should see some of the custom crap I've got in there. Did I really think I was going to get healthy eating that stuff?!?
Spanky? I've dragged the wheelbarrel around the backyard for exercise :) |
It's hard to count things like nuts, huh?
Here's my best estimate for yesterday. 1929 cals 57% fat 29% protein 13% carb 138 gms of protein ... hmmm ... |
So ... as requested, a pond picture! My sweetie wants a pix of the whole pond, whereas I like to shoot detail shots. So here is a try with the whole pond.

So peaceful CJ...That is beautiful!
I had some cake last night for my daughters 1st birthday, of course I paid for it at 1:45 this morning. My body really hates sugar now, I was always sensitive to it, but now my body revolts with it. My dad brought up some fresh picked peaches and some pink grapefruit from florida yesterday, they have a bit too many carbs for me normally but I'm going to enjoy them since they look so good, I could do worse. We are off to the pool today before it storms again, yesterday afternoon was nasty. Have a great primal day everyone! |

I do not have a green thumb....more like a yellow one that I hope turns green with age! ;) Have a good day. |
The pond looks like a place I could sit & relax for long periods at a time.
I have been so tired latley. I dont know what the deal is. Sunday was the 1st time I ran since Tue of last week. I had trouble running a mile without stopping to walk. Even now I have had to stop to walk. I have a had time sleeping at nite but last nite I pretty much past out & had a hard time getting up this morning. I have a short work week this week so am looking forward to sleeping in on Thur. My luck I will be back to not sleeping well again. |
