Stuck in a rut!

  • I was doing much better on "low carb" this time around than I did last time. But...after 4 weeks...I'm getting bored, frustrated, losing my appetite and "slipping" too often!

    The plan I've been using [with success, I add] allows : 2 servings of fruit, unlimited veggies, unlimited meat [I only eat pork/poultry/seafood], 3 servings of cheese, 1 serving of peanut butter, 1 serving of other nuts. No bread/pasta/rice....nothing wheat based. I do have a bag of really nice chocolate "tasting" squares, that have 2 carbs each, in the fridge - I get one of those [per day] if I'm really dying for something sweet.

    My diet feels like it's getting so boring. I don't look at this as "temporary". I have better moods and more even temperament while doing low carb. Eventually I'm going to reincorporate 1 serving of carb heavy food per day.

    If I'm not doing to dive into a plate of pasta, I just have no appetite. I don't know what's going on. This lack of appetite has been going on for three days now. I eat when I'm hungry, but nothing "sounds" good anymore.
  • I am not a carb counter, hope you don't mind if I respond. I ran into the "bored" thing on low carb dieting. That's the problem I ran into on a low carb diet, boredom. I tried both Atkins and South Beach. Congrats on the 20 pounds though. That's crazy. Have you lost all that weight in four weeks? Maybe it's not boredom for you, but maybe it is you are just not addicted to food anymore. I don't know if that was your problem before, but it seems to be the case with most dieters. I am on WW now and love it, but low carb has worked for some of my friends. Good luck to you!
  • Hi Altari! I struggle some on low-carb as well. I'm on Atkins, and I don't like lettuce and am allergic to tomatoes, so salads are not an option for me. Lots of meat cheese and eggs, and a girl can lose her mind from boredom. It's not that I have cravings for bad foods, like potatoes or rice or pasta, it's just that I am so SICK of meat and cheese and eggs and limited greens. Then I get annoyed because it bugs me to eat from my limited menu so I skip meals. Then I get MORE annoyed because I'm not eating enough and losing weight! So I feel your pain.

    So I started livening up my menu a little - making things like chili without beans, sugar free custards and cheesecakes, and trying new recipes. Even if the recipe isn't to my taste, it at least gets me interested in eating again.

  • Have you looked in the recipe section? Have you tried Linda's recipes?

    There are SO many options out there, you'd be amazed at what you can and can't have once you are off Induction.

    I even pop open my recipe books (most of them anyway) and look for things I can make or modify to make. Keeps my dinner menu interesting...which is important for me since I usually wind up eating the same ol' same ol' breakfast and lunch (usually don't have time to think about it).

    LoL I wish. The lbs have been coming off slowly but surely since January. I fell "off the bandwagon" for about 3 months, but managed to not slip backwards much.

    I've looked into recipes. The problem is, most things I find that sound appetizing include some kind of artificial sweetener, and I can't get too far off the beaten path, lest the kiddies refuse to eat what I make.

    I bought a crockpot, so I'm going to be utilizing that more. Maybe whatever I'm having for dinner won't seem as monotonous if I don't have to slave over it.

    Have you considered trying a natural low carb/calorie sweetener like Stevia or Wheylow?
