Thanks SoulBliss! I'm gonna try it...hope it taste good! So...it's tofu? I have tofu in my frig...but don't know what to do with it...kinda scared..ya know...it looks gross! But I know it's got a lot of protein and I'm always looking for something like that. Is there a way to make it taste good?

No, it's wheat gluten, that was just the first site that popped up when I did a search. The way to make it taste good is the way we make everything taste good...fat and seasoning! ;) The way I made it yesterday was really delicious. It's so nice to know I can use oil and not skimp! I used to have to watch oil like a hawk (because of calories) and now, I can use it to my satisfaction.

Seitan fries up nicely and bakes well too. My favorite combo is oil, salt, pepper, garlic and a squeeze of lemon or a splash of vinegar. Oh! That's what I forgot to put in my list, I used rice wine vinegar in the recipe yesterday too. The sour/acid combo brings out the other flavors nicely. Lemon juice is great too.

As far as tofu goes, marinating it and then frying/baking it works well. I like to marinate it a long time. Soft tofu is good for smoothies and protein shakes too.

Ok ladies day one for me again. I see a lot of new faces here which is awesome, but where are the old schoolers. I bought everything i would need to be successful this time. So here is to day one of induction.

bambifox 03-18-2008 10:32 AM

:welcome: ilovemike4alwayz!!! Congrats on taking the first step (again) towards the rest of your life! Glad to have you back!..and look forward to getting to know you!

BTW, this is also my 3rd time around on Atkins (low-carb)...they say third time's a charm! I, like you, am much better prepared this time (going all the way) around as I have equipped myself with the knowlege, meal preparation skills, etc. to succeed. There is an old saying that still rings true..."If you don't plan to succeed, then you are (in essence) planning to FAIL"...so here's to you on your plan of success!

Thanks Bambi. I did so good the first time that I did this way of eating I just wish i had stayed on cause I would have already reached my goals, lesson learned. So now I am just going to take it one day at a time instead of trying to bombard myself with everything at once. I am setting myself a 30 day goal to eat like I am supposed to then once I accomplish that I will add in exercise. It tends to work well for me. But I am excited about seeing that scale drop and drop some more.:carrot:

ilovemike4alwayz 03-18-2008 10:42 AM

I am pulling out a pair of old capris that my big butt use to fit into. They are my "1st goal pants". They arent my final goal, but I will feel better when I can atleast get into them. Now I gotta find the dang things. lol

bambifox 03-18-2008 10:47 AM

That sounds like a great goal ilovemike!! That's exactly how I got started this year. Cuz I had become a total "reality tv show" junkee couch potato! So, I couldn't even see myself hitting the gym (and I have one in my own house!). The first 2 weeks, I just focused on getting my diet/appetite in check, and then with the rapid weight loss and subsequent motivation it gave me...I started out with just a 10 min walk in the morn. Then, I just gradually added the eliptical and then weights...now I'm up to 30 min level 5 on eliptical and 30-40 min. weight training! I now watch my reality tv shows on the eliptical instead of on the couch! Some things just never change!

ilovemike4alwayz 03-18-2008 11:32 AM

I so wish I had a home gym. It would be awesome, but for now pounding the pavement is just going to have to do. Once my finances pan out I plan to join a local 24 hour gym. I just tend to do better in a gym setting. well i need to go eat some breakfast.

Hi All & WB ilmike! Lessseeee, lilyb is still around - sick with the flu - along with her DD - so just checks in occasionally lately . . . beachie moved back over to South Beach . . . robin is here, but I think got busy with her shop(???) . . . I think scalmie was here b4 me and now is baaaaaccckkkk:dizzy: . . . can't think of anyone else right now . . . I'm on Day 2 of getting my focus permanently back on . . . ever-hopeful - ever-optimistic!

How many days til something is a "habit" ??? Know I've read that on here b4 . . . I'm in the process of putting ALL the things I KNOW to be true for me - together & into practice--menopausebedamned--(You really put into words a LOT of the symptoms & frustrations scalmie! . . . ughugh The Bloat . . . ughghgh The Scale) -

truths:

cardio daily

lift weights at least 3x (5x even better) per week

water ~ thirst connection

change what I acknowledge on emotional eating - mind/body connection - not to "overthink it," ya know?:^:

Yeah, these are the things I KNOW and am putting into practice starting ummm, yesterday. I ought to be in great shape when/if menopause EVAH ends!:p Think your old saying about "planning to succeed vs planning to fail" summed it up better bambi! - but tx for getting what's left of my mind focussed along the same lines Girlie!

*must go take Estroven ASAP*

Where's the Protein Power site?

Your veggies 'n oil recipe made my mouth water soulb! Made me remember that I've wanted to get some coconut oil in . . . my Gran wouldn't pop popcorn in any other oil . . . but afraid that's the only thing I know about its taste!

JUST LOVED reading your Post about the Leprechaun Mess scalm - brought back fond memories of my Gran & my namesake Aunt Audrey - always made a big deal of St. Pat's & talked with the brogue - esp. on that day . . . just realized it's a tradition that no one cont'd once they were gone all these many years.:( Too cute that you have - LOL @ your DD's "Leprechaun Pee" observation & the underwear toss!:D:D

Finishingoff my midday 44oz of water & headed out into the rain for some cardio-truth work - ttyal!

Just ordered the book for my DBF a few days ago...he's finally starting to get interested in low carb!!:D:carrot:

aud 03-18-2008 03:00 PM

Tx JG! Not sure if I've heard of this book/place . . . may have it confused with the Protein Power from years ago. I'll check it out when I get back.

Forgot to say that jerseygyrl is still here helping us all out ilmike . . . scuse the brain fart!

Doubly weird since I've been focussing so much on JG's Sage Advice: "You can't change what you refuse to acknowlege!"

am I close on the quote?:^:

Been acknowledging some wicked truths a lot here lately!

there's a recipe for homemade seitan on the protein power site. I was wondering if you could buy it commercially or if everyone made it from scratch. It looks labor intensive.

BTW, aud, I think it is the "old Protein Power" They wrote their first book in the early 90's I think and then wrote an updated version in 2000. Sort of like the two versions of the Atkins diet.

Welcome, Ilovemike. Jump right in. The conversations can get kind of interesting around here.

I had something kind of indulgent for dinner. I made hot wings-deep fried and all. They have a saying here in Mississippi. "If it ain't fried, it ain't food!" They eat fried things you couldn't imagine down here. Fried bologna sandwiches, fried pickles. At any rate, I fried them myself, they were good and I have left overs. Also had a glass of wine.

OMG...I used to love fried bologna sandwiches!!! Ate them all the time as a kid! Wings sound lovely Petra! I make them all the time...it's so easy, just clean the chix, and dump them into my deep fryer, throw some 1 carb hot wing sauce (Texas Pete's my favorite), garnish with blue cheese & celery and whalla! A low carb treat that is deeeelish!

Where can I find the Protein Power recipes? Is it on 3FC's or the protein power website? I'm looking for some really good high protein things to make...kinda struggling right now to get all my protein in every day! Thanks.

Hello All!

Well...finally...TOM has arrived...yeahhhhh! My goodness...I thought I was about to actually "change lives" like turn into some green monster yesterday! (remember Michael J Fox in that warewolf movie:lol:!) Oooofff, the hormone overload was killin' me! Even though I've been neutered , I was beginning to worry that BF might have accidentally re-alligned/fused something back together again....I'm never late...28 days for me...that train is never ever late! But, I was late...and puking:p, and exhausted for the last few days...like getting out of bed was a challenge! Can't wait to "change lives" though...cuz the one I have currently s*cks!...but I hear it can cause you to start gaining weight!:o I just want PMS to be put to death...FOREVER!!!!

Okay then...I'm going to pull these lazy bones up now and do 30 min on the recumbent bike now (I know...I know...it's late, but better late than never)...maybe it'll help with these damn cramps!:?:

Hope everyone is doing well. Til later. Joyce
