  • You really donīt measure ur veggies? I want to do an absolutely clean induction so I swear I measure every leaf of the lettuce and if it goes over the border of the cup I cut it, I swear lol!

And without measuring how do u know how many grs you are eating?
If u didnīt measure, after you ended induction and moved to OWL u just assumed u were at 20 grs daily and moved to 25 grs and then started counting or didnīt cout either?

Iīm sorry but Iīm a very "strict" person (dont know if itīs the right word) but I tend to follow orders exactly how told (itīs a defect, I know, maybe cause Iīm in law school) so itīs hard to think you donīt measure ur foods!
Actually I had to force myself to stop counting calories bcause I obsessed with the too many calories of atkins (I did calorie counting before) although I canīt abuse either!
  • Tks Joyce, Iīll check the site for the bars and see if they ship to chile (most places do but itīs so so so expensive)
  • If you really want to measure your veggies--to make sure you're getting under 20g on induction, I'd just weigh them. I have a digital scale and I weigh all my veggies Haven't weighed lettuce, though...but I guess I could! I've been tracking my carb intake with the FitDay PC program (The one online is nice, as well).

Then again, I track my calories and carbs, so I like to know what exactly I'm putting into my mouth. I bought a digital scale 6 months ago and I love it dearly.
  • No, I've never measured my salads or my veggies. When I have veggies, I can usually eye-ball the serving size. My way of eating is mainly veggies & salads...as well as chicken, fish, pork, occasional beef....but, I can honestly say, the majority of my carbs are coming from salad & veggies. I, personally don't eat sugar-free candies, I don't drink diet soda's. I do enjoy a cup of decaf herbal tea with a Tablespoon of heavy cream...sometimes with a packet of Splenda, sometimes not, usually in the evening after dinner. I'd say my eating is pretty clean with the emphasis being on veggies & salad.

    Hope this helps!

I have one too, I bought it when I was claorie counting, but the atkins talks about cups, so I switched to cup measurements.. but I do love my scale too!

Jersey.. when u switched from induction to OWL you still eyed measured ur veggies?
  • Quote: Jersey.. when u switched from induction to OWL you still eyed measured ur veggies?
Yes Rafaella, for me, from day 1 on Atkins....I've never measured my veggies or my salads.
  • Since I asked the question about your foods, here's my response to your foods list. Sorry it took so long. As stated by JerseyGyrl, you are not eating enough vegetables. Where are the accoutrements to your salad, like tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, green beans, broccoli, spinach? You should have more than 1 cup at any meal. You can add tomato/asparagus/green pepper to your eggs, too. Add some lettuce or spinach to that tuna snack. Spinach, per cup, has 1.1g carb of which .7 is fiber. Grab a hand full of spinach [about 3 cups] to add to your salad for lunch and dinner meal and you have only added 2.4g net carbs and 4.2g fiber. Trust me, will you no longer feel hungry and you will get plenty of fiber, naturally, too.

Since you are more than 10 pounds away from your goal, you should try to get your carbs from vegetables, not prepackaged sugar-free products or meal replacement foods or drinks. You need real foods for your body. You need to retrain your body to respond to foods.

What kind of cream are you speaking of that has 4g of carbs? Are you talking about those flavored half & halfs? One tablespoon of real heavy whipping cream has 1g carb.
  • I agree, Rafaella, you might want to "doctor" up that salad with something other than just lettuce...that would be a great way to take up your carbs a bit (in a healthy way)!

However, you will find many different views on whether you should or should not have chocolates (sugar free), so I thought I would provide you with this link from webmd (a medical website) which shows that chocolate is not the "devil". http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20030...lthy-chocolate

As you'll see, chocolate (dark) is quite beneficial as it contains Antioxidants, and studies have shown that is lowers the blood pressure and keeps blood readily flowing to the heart! Also, both "Erythritol and Oligliofructose" are both "natural" sweetners, not "artificial" as some asume. They are sweetness found naturally in grapes and other natural fruit, with 0 effect on blood sugar. I'm sure if these sweetners were around before Dr. Atkins wrote his book, he would have surely recommended them! Case in point...I eat 'em every day...love 'em...I stay in ketosis...I'm losing weight at a safe rate...more importantly, I'm losing fat! No stalls, etc.

So...while this forum can be greatly supportive...it's best to do your own homework when you want the "facts". I surf the net all the time...to hear what others have done and find out what's worked for them...then I make I own decision on what's best for me. Sending you [[[happiness]]] vibes during your weight loss journey! Joyce

Sylvia!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!! Veggies & salads should be a HUGE part of this way of eating. Once I started eating my veggies & my salads, the desire for sweets diminished greatly!

As far as chocolate is concerned, before I get misquoted here...I'd like to clarify that I do occasionally indulge in a piece or 2 of dark chocolate (Lindt 85% cocoa dark chocolate). I stay away from the maltitol-laden sugar-free chocolates. At any rate Rafaella, if you are doing Atkins Induction and as you stated, you want to do it correctly...chocolate is not permitted while on Induction.

A good rule of thumb while on Induction is, if its not on the acceptable foods list....its not allowed.

  • First of all I want to really really thank you all for your responses and tips!

I was eating so little veggies because in the book it says 2-3 cups daily, and I was having the 3 cups, it´s not that I didn´t want more, belive me, maybe I was interpreting (is that a word?) wrong things and I´ll add and change some of my veggies!

Jersey, I know I can´t have chocolate or bars or shakes, but later on I probably will occasionaly, I was just checking... anyway, by the time they get shipped to Chile I´ll be in OWL rung 8 lol! The shipping is really expensive anyway.. I hate living so far away!

Silvia, mm I don´t know what cream it is (but I checked 2 or 3 different ones), actually that´s one of my problems, that I know what cream is but all the different types ufff I don´t know the types in spanish less in english!! The same happens with veggies, and even though I have the book in spanish you wouldn´t believe the difference in names between mexico and here!

And we eat differently too, I had to go to 3 different supermarkets bfore I found bacon. In the supermarket I regularly go (which is a big one) there are only 3 or 4 different salad dressings (most had a huge amount of carbs) and they were all imported so really really expensive!
And low carb diets are not very common here, actually I don´t know anybody who has done a low carb diet in their lives, and need not to say that a lot of people think Atkins is absolutely crazy, including both my parent who are drs and many of their collegues!

Well, tks again and see you tomorrow! I´m having eggs fried in olive oil and tomato for breakfast!! Yumi
  • Heavy cream is a milk product. You make whipped cream with it. I will ask one of my spanish speaking friends what name to look for. It is not a non-diary creamer.

Also, you do not have to have bacon for breakfast. You can have carnitas or steak or chicken.

You can make your salad dressing out of olive oil and vinegar. You do not have to spend a whole lot of money on premade stuff.

Good luck and I will get the spanish name for heavy cream.
  • You are sooo welcome! Here's "heavy cream" in spanish: Crema rica en grasa.

As far as salad dressings go, you may have to make your own (which is pretty simple) if the store brands are high carbs. Here's a link to Linda's Low Carb Recipes where you can find some good salad dressing and other low-carb recipes: http://genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html

Hope this helps. Good luck Rafaella!
  • Uīre the best, really, uīre really helpful!!

Joyce: Crema rica en grasa? I undestand, but that means cream with fat and believe me I havenīt seen that name, I have seen "crema para batir" (cream to whip), "crema de leche" (milk cream), "crema chantilly", "mezcla para crema pastelera" (those are used in cakes), "crema espesa" (thick cream)... those are the ones I found in the supermarket.

Also I dont know what string cheese is.
But can I have that cheese that comes in a bag and is like powder.. thatīs not the best description, a few months ago it was called "pasmesano rallado" but now it canīt be called parmesano (bcause of a law) so, itīs not parmesano, has low carb but donpt know if u use anything similar.
    http://www.telecompra.cl/supermercad...sano-40gr.html

there u can get the idea of what iīm taking about!

Well, Iīm going for a jog right now, itīs a beautiful autumn like day, sun but not that hot!
  • "crema para batir" (cream to whip) would probably be your best choice. Here in the States is also labelled both ways...Heaving Whipping Cream or Heavy Cream....just make sure to check the carb content! Hopefully, they don't sweeten the cream in Chili!

"String Cheese" is Mozarella cheese or "Queso mozzarella".

"pasmesano rallado" (I checked it out) appears to be what we call grated Parmesian cheese.

Enjoy your "run"...exercise is really the most important part of any diet! I wish I were having the weather you are...it's coooolddd here! Enjoy...all the best to you! Joyce
  • Crema para batir or crema espesa are probably the equivalent of American heavy whipping cream. And you should only have 3 tablespoons per day. Also, on the cheese, string cheese is usually mozzarella. The limit is only 4 ounces a day. But adding these items really won't do anything significant for your hunger. Adding the vegetable will. Also, for a crunchy snack you might try celery.

It doesn't seem like you eat a lot of cheese normally. You know you don't have to eat cheese or bacon, especially if it is really expensive. Just find an alternate meat product.
