I'll also post if I find these choco "delishioso" at my local grocery store. Thanks Jilly & Jersey for all your help.

Jill - I know exactly what you mean about Walmart here in VA...it absolutely bites...but the other stores are just so much more expensive...and Walmart has the freshest fruits and veggies so.... I just went shopping at Walmart Friday (SB weekend) and it was friggin packed with a bunch of rude a*s shoppers pushing their carts right into you...not enough registers open...so customer/sales help...I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown...couldn't wait to get out of there! whew...lol!

Hey, thanks, learn something new every day. It is unfortunate, though from what i read glycerine is not as bad as say maltitol. Fortunately, I was counting that carb in my intake. I never go by "net" carbs, I always look at the total carb and I only ever subtract fiber. So, I was accounting for the carb just wasn't sure that the glycerine it came from was in fact a sugar alcohol.

My hope is that the FDA steps in at some point and sets some kind of standard for the claims of "net" carbs. It fools too many people.

Glycerine (which all varieties of Atkins bars contain) is a sugar alcohol. It is used as a sugar substitute, has approximately 27 calories per teaspoon and is 60% as sweet as sucrose (table sugar). It does not raise blood sugar.

"Net Carb" is not a term the FDA approved. Basically "net carbs" are the total carbs minus fiber & sugar alcohols (Glycerine). The "therory" is fiber, glycerine & sugar alcohols, all of which are forms of carbohydrates, don't raise blood sugar...so...their carb content shouldn't be included when counting carbs.

The only carb info the FDA regulates is on the nutrition facts label, which is total carbs, dietary fiber & sugars. While the "net carb" theory is just that, a theory, it is not illegal.

Joyce, we don't have any Walmart Supercenters around here Ours are ALL old school Walmarts--no grocery store built in. If we had a Super Walmart, Iwould likely go there for groceries since when I lived in VA Beach, the prices were definitely better. But here, there are just a couple aisles of food--no produce, bakery, meats, or anything like that.

Now, I must apologize to you guys--I've sent you on a wild goose chase! It wasn't the Chocoperfection bars I saw at the store--they were Cocoa Via bars (also mentioned by many on this site, but they have sugar, so more often used by calorie counters). Sorry, guys!

I saw these bars (Cocoa Via) yesterday in a local supermarket & in Walmart. Yes, they do contain sugar & would not be suitable for low carb lifestyles. The milk chocolate variety contains 13 carbs per bar. The bar's look quite small and the nutrition facts state 1 bar is 5 servings.

I would really like to try the Chocoperfection bars but...I can't justify spending close to $35. I bought a bar of the Lindt 85% cocoa dark chocolate yesterday. I only occasionally eat 1 square so, it lasts me several months & its only $2.49

For those who don't like the 85% lindt, they also have a 55% or 65% bar that has the same low carb count but is not as strong.

Lightbulb Chocoperfection bars are $2.37 each

I went on that link and it is $28.49 for 12 bars so that is about $2.37 each. I guess, that's not too bad.

I think we are all learning about how expensive it is to get the weight off and keep it off, huh?

When I get some extra money I will send away for some of these and I'll report back to you all how I like them.

Oh, speaking of expenses, this is Girl Scout season and let's all be honest, how much did you routinely spend on those "goodies"??? Especially, at $2.75 a box???

Puts it in perspective, doesn't it?

P.S. I was a Girl Scout and I am not dissing the Girl Scouts. Just using that as an example. No Girl Scouts were harmed in this statement, I hope.

I totally agree...I, for one, was a big fan of "Mickey Dees"...spent a truckload of $$$ there! So, for me, it's worth it...if it's good and good for me! On the same note, I don't want to spend money unnecessarily. Has anyone thought about just making your own chocolate bars. I was in Walmart yesterday looking for the chocoperfection bars (which, by the way Walmart doesn't carry) and saw a woman with an unsweetend bar of chocolate. I asked her if she knew if the store carried Lindt sugar free. She suggested making the bars yourself. I thought that a good idea, cuz you can buy powdered "Erythritol" from www.netrition.com for like $6-7 bucks, splenda for $6 bucks and just make it from scratch! It might be cheaper and at least you'll truly know what's gone into it.

Has anybody out there tried it that way...and if so, have a recipe for making chocolate bars????? Joyce

The low carb sites are full of recipes for low carb candy. Here are a couple of the more popular ones:
http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/chocola...onut_bark.html
http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeehtdx/k...ite/id106.html

There are many low carb "legal" desserts...Enjoy!!!

Thanks Jerseygyrl! I checked out those sites, but I'm kinda just looking to make an awesome chocolate bar with almonds. Any suggestions???

I don't know what's happening to me (mid-life crisis/change of life, etc.), but I've never been so into "cooking" before Atkins this time around! I'm really diggin it! I just feel the meals taste better cuz I made it!

Funny though...my appetite is really in the toilet...I have to remember to eat! Not sure if it's just Atkins or the Fat Burner pills (lecithin, b-6, cider vinegar). Anyway, it feels great not to be a slave to food anymore. Even got my sweet tooth under control. Thanks for all your helpful advice Jersey...you are great! Keep inspiring and being inspired! Joyce

WeightSmasher - The pills are all natural and you won't believe this, but, I found them at "Dollar Tree". Yes, $1 for a week supply. Take one 3 times per day with meals. Their simply labeled "Weight Loss"...ha! I know..I know...how generic! The company that makes them is "People's Choice" made by Mason Vitamins, Inc.

Are the pills appetite suppresents or fat burners?? I thought that with Atkins you want to have fat because it helps you lose weight faster. I'm just a little confused. I know that with Atkins you lower your carbs and up your fat (of course with moderation) but you do need more fat. So would taking Alli pills help or harm our weight loss??

Just a few questions.........sorry it is just me confused!!

No problem Weightsmasher. I'm sorry if I confused you...

The pills that I take are simply vitamins. But the bottle is labeled "Weight Loss". The ingredients of the pill are simply kelp, cider vinegar, b-6 & lecithin. I have a close friend that said he took them and loss 100 lbs. So I tried it when I first started Atkins (as I had a ravenous appetite). He said it would substantially reduce my appetite and it did. However, a low-carb diet is a natural appetite suppressant so between the two...I'm like never hungry!
It also has vitamins and are supposed to aid in metabolizing fat!

Alli is something totally different and I wouldn't recommend it (nor do the manufacturers) for any low-carb diet as you will probably live in the bathroom. Alli is supposed to keep fat from be absorbed by the body. Not sure how safe something like that is...who knows what else it's inhibiting the body from absorbing (namely essential vitamins and minerals).

Currently, I not even sure that I need the "weight loss" pills, but I still take them with every meal cuz it can't hurt..only vitamins.

Hope this cleared up any confusion. Joyce
