Yeah the pole with bread and water sounds like a good idea! Although I'd never make it to kickboxing...

floridarusty 01-15-2007 11:15 AM

Yuck, I am up 1.5 lbs. We ate out 4 nights in a row!!!! Not doing that this week...hopefully I can get this off faster...going to try and do more walking!

I have a friend, Lynn, that might jump in and set a goal for Valentines too. 10 lbs. would be too much but set your own goal Lynn.....I'm sure a new challenge will be starting after that.

Good luck all, Phyllis

4me4ben4will 01-15-2007 01:23 PM

I was doing so well but this weekend has killed me! It's a 3 day weekend for hubby and I both because of MLK day today. We were slammed with an ice storm that started Friday evening and finally gave up last night around midnight. This morning every single thing outdoors was encrusted in like 1/2" of ice. So we've been cooped up and bored. Hubby braved his way into town last night to our favorite restaurant and brought home cheese fries and chicken fried steak. I've been drinking sodas like crazy. Needless to say, I haven't hopped on the scales today. I really don't want to know. To make it all worse, I finished off my steak and fries for lunch today. So tomorrow it's back to work and back on track.

Bobbolink 01-16-2007 08:42 AM

Monday's Calories...1,197 Fat...19%
Down another 1/2 pound.
I see too many sad faces on this thread!:( :( :(

AnAbsoluteDiva 01-16-2007 12:59 PM

Four-tenths of a pound to go.

And four full weeks to do it.

:)

Robsia 01-16-2007 02:13 PM

Hmm - that was me last October. My goal had been to get to a certain weight by my birthday (oct 28th) and it was the beginning of October and I only had half a pound to go. I bragged too!

Of course, despite being really good, I put on a pound and it took me the entire four weeks to get rid of that pound and a half. But I actually did it on the morning of my birthday - I hit that goal!

Let's hope you don't do what I did!

ennay 01-16-2007 02:22 PM

down another 0.2

ladyinweighting 01-16-2007 07:42 PM

Hello Everyone

Hi,

My name is Lynn & I've been away from 3FC for quite a while. I'd like to join your group. I'm at 172 today. My goal for Valentine's Day is to get below 170.

Lynn

SmartButt 01-16-2007 10:28 PM

An excellent goal, ladyinweighting.

And a great idea ennay - I think I'll lose weight for your birthday, too! hehe

:o

I'll be counting every peanut! LOL I know what you mean though... easy to get over confident.

SmartButt 01-17-2007 10:03 AM

The scale finally friggin' MOVED! yayyyyy :cheer2:

It's only a pound, but I'll take it. I got very tired of seeing that same number every morning for nearly 3 weeks!

This gives me continued motivation!

webweevil 01-17-2007 10:05 AM

Way to go SmartButt!!!!! :carrot: :carrot:

OnePerDecade 01-17-2007 11:26 AM

My scale is stuck. I think I'm going to go buy a new one *tee hee*

No, actually, I have been stuck this week...that darned life thing keeps popping up. But I'm about to head out for a nice long power walk in the skyway followed by a low cal lunch from Subway and then tonight, American Idol and no snacks. I'm having the after-dinner issue again where I'm starving and/or restless after 6pm (which is when my ADHD meds begin to wear off) and I am working on ways to get around that. Taking more meds might work in Hollywood but it's not an option for me...(I actually read that on another site as "helpful" advice to someone else with my problem...unbelievable!)

ladyinweighting 01-17-2007 06:43 PM

My scale is also stuck. Must be going around. STS today. No loss. I've been eating around 1100 calories/day. Maybe I need to reduce.

Lynn

floridarusty 01-18-2007 09:16 AM

Hi Lynn, glad to see you joining us here.

I keep playing with a couple pounds of water I guess. One day it's gone, next day its back....it's the hump to get in the 180's again.

We just had to put our 13 yr old, Mainecoon cat down yesterday. I am broken hearted, he was such a wonderfual cat and big part of our lives. So here is to Simon, our Gentle Gaint....I will always miss him.

Have to do a stress test today so I will get some exercise in....lol

Phyllis

SmartButt 01-19-2007 09:44 AM

woohoo!

Check out my ticker ladies - another pound!! yayyyyy

Looks like this crazy calorie counting thing actually works - my calorie deficit as of today is 7,299 - which is supposed to equal 2 lbs. (a little over) And guess what, it did!!!! :carrot: :carrot:

I'm quite pleased with myself. I don't think I can drop 8 more by 2/14, but I'll just shoot for that next 3,500 calorie deficit.

ennay 01-19-2007 10:39 AM

down a bit more. 20lbs total so far...so happy

nineteen 01-19-2007 02:26 PM

I'm so sorry about your cat, Florida. :(

Bobbolink 01-20-2007 08:38 AM

Rusty... I'm so sorry to hear about "Simon" your gentle giant. We had to put our 5 year old English Setter down and it broke out hearts too. He was so sweet with us, but we couldn't trust him with our grand kids or anybody. He bit the mailman and just about got the meter reader.
We have a pitch Black long haired cat that lives out in our breezeway, she's about 15 years old and doesn't like to go outside anymore. I'm going to hate to see her go. We get so attached to them like family.

Bobbi

floridarusty 01-20-2007 09:24 AM

Thank you nineteen and Bobbi.....we will miss our cat for a long time to come.

We still have the Doberman, however he is also going on 13 yrs. old. So we will enjoy him while we can.

I am gratefull for 13 years with Simon, he was such a unique cat .... you just touch the top of his head and he would purr.

Ok, deficit was lower yesterday 970 but I am down 5 lbs. towards the goal.

Thanks again, Phyllis

Mami 01-20-2007 10:05 AM

Florida: So very sorry to hear about your cat. My 11 year old pit bull puca has to have a tumor removed next week; hoping it has not spread. She's been my baby for the past 10 years so I hope she'll be ok. I really sympathize with you, it is such a sad reality of life.

Smartbutt and ennay: yay! I'm also down a bit over 20 and am also really happy this is actually working like a charm.

Hi Bobbolink!

Yesterday was horrible for me calorie wise. I was doing fine until this lady under the dryer next to me at the salon tempted me with the smell of her spanish carribbean food from the restaurant next door - she went there with curlers in her hair mind you. From there on I had such a taste for that food. DH and I ended up splitting pernil (pork), chicharron de pollo (fried boneless chicken), arroz blanco (white rice LOL) and beans. Its so hard to estimate how many calories I had because I didnt measure before serving myself. Surprisingly fitday had all these spanish carribbean dishes on there (even the white rice listed as arroz blanco, rice but cooked with some fat. I tend to overestimate - I think - but it brought yesterday to 2500 calories. Today I will definitely be back OP. I kind of planned on eating more yesterday anyway because I like to eat high for a day or two then low for a few days and then average for a few days to keep my metabolism guessing (and allow me some food after 3 days of eating below 1700 and feeling very hungry).

SmartButt 01-20-2007 11:07 AM

Yet another pound gone! Holy crud. This has been quite the week for me. I didn't have dinner last night because 1. I had already eaten 1300 calories by the time I got home from work, and 2. I was reeeeally tired and just decided to go to bed very early.

So, it may be down another pound simply because dinner isn't floating around in my digestive tract, but I'll take it!

Man am I in a good mood.

AnAbsoluteDiva 01-20-2007 01:48 PM

Mami,

The food you ate (Puerto Rican or Dominican) isn't as bad as you think. I'm Dominican... I eat that stuff all the time (although I traded the white rice in for brown rice eons ago) and the problem with our food is the salt. Americans add butter to white rice, we add olive oil. So the caloric value will be the same. What did you in was the chicharron because it's fried (I don't eat that... never liked it... too greasy) but the pernil in and of itself is a lean cut of pork and all we do is season the heck out of it and broil it.

I had rice, beans, pernil for New Year's and my calories for that meal came to 699 and that's with gandules (pigeon peas) instead of the kidney beans. AND... that's allowing for eight ounces of pernil, one cup of rice, and 1/4 cup of gandules. (I ate the rice and gandules mixed [moro de gandules] so I estimate I got about 1/4 cup in there). Hope this eases your mind some.

Caribbean cuisine is really quite good for you if you watch the stinking salt (which I refuse to cook with) and go easy on the platanos (although you can eat a plate of mangu and you not be hungry for three days).

As for the curlers, I thought my people stopped doing that ages ago. Still a few stragglers, I guess....

As for my Valentine's Goal of losing ten pounds, I did it! But with more than three weeks to go, I believe I can get another three to four pounds off.

ennay 01-21-2007 12:56 PM

down another 0.8 today, but I know some of it is water from not getting to workout much this week, as soon as I start up again it will come back, but hopefully I can lose real weight at the same time like I did last time and just hold steady

Mami 01-21-2007 07:11 PM

Anabsolutediva, I didn't know you're a Dominicana :) The reason I'm worried about the food is because when I gained a lot of weight, I often ate abuelita's (DH's) food. Chullettas fried in oil, arroz not with olive oil but con crisco and other oils, my favorite chicken cutlets deep fried (yum) and yummy deep fried tortones. The arroz con gondules is her specialty and its probably fine, except the portion sizes I'm served, and which I have to eat or I'll hear it from abuela, are really huge. When I wasn't losing I had to limit going over there to eat and its helped. If you have any recipes please share!

*Claudia*

AnAbsoluteDiva 01-21-2007 11:12 PM

OMG girl,

You are cracking me up! Tostones will do you in, every time!

My father is from Barcelona and I lived there for quite a few years, so I took my mom's flair for seasonings and my father's flair for seafood and olive oil and made the best of both worlds.

Does abuelita cook in bacon fat??? LOL Dios mio! If we let them, they'll kill us.

I have really "adjusted" mami's cooking to eliminate salt and use olive oil whenever oil was needed. She fusses a bit when she eats (Nina... hechale sazon a eso) but papi thinks it's just fine!

My mom has never had a weight problem, and she and my dad run races and bicycle regularly.

And THEREIN lies the difference! ACTIVITY!

;-)

Bobbolink 01-22-2007 08:46 AM

Good Morning Girls!
Yesterday's calorie intake was 1,160 & Fat 35%

Claudia and Diva, you're making me really, really hungry. I'm not of your nationality but my mom always made bacon and eggs for breakfast and she cooked our eggs in the bacon fat. (It was so tasty) She also browned all our meat in bacon fat. Sorry to see those days gone by!
Rusty... Congrats on the 5 pounds down for the challenge. :cp: You're half way there and we still have 24 days left.
Mami... I think everyone has issues with family and portion sizes. If you don't eat huge servings it's like you've insulted them. :hun:They spend all that time in the kitchen making it and we feel guilty if we don't show our gratitude in heaping up our plates. Good thing you limit your time over there!

Diva... Congratulation to you, our 1st to make goal on our Valentine's challenge. :congrat: I'm right behind you, I'm down 9 lbs. With 24 days left, I'm sure you'll probably lose a few more!
ennay... Glad to hear of your 0.8 pounds down, I know you have to be more careful with a nursing baby. By the way, how much weight has the baby put on? Sorry, I can't remember if it's a little girl or boy.
All you other challengers, Hi!

Bobbi

floridarusty 01-22-2007 09:49 AM

Bacon fat....that is all I cooked with for years. That is also the southern way to fry anything. We saved it in a container and used it over and over....I'm surprised we all lived!!!! lol I still have the little glass container sitting on my sink....nice memories.

Had ab 1800 cal. day with a 660 deficit. If I hadn't had those 2 drinks it wouldn't have been so bad....lol

Weight STS, so on to a new improved week!!!

Phyllis

ennay 01-22-2007 10:51 AM

bobbi - when I weighed him about a week ago he was over 13.5 lbs. He is so big compared to what my daughter was. I actually feel like I am losing weight a bit too fast, but I am just about done with the baby weight and gonna be getting into the hardcore struggled with for 20 years weight and I think this will slow down

Mami 01-22-2007 01:13 PM

Afternoon ladies!

Bobbi, I'm actually of German ethnicity but, excuse this expression, according to DH I'm puerto rican by injection..LOL

Florida, that bacon-fat cooking is so 70's (for up north) LOL! That really brought me back..we, probably like most other families, saved the bacon grease in a tin coffee can and left it on the back of the stove for use..YUCK!.

Ennay, yes that first bit of baby weight just MELTS away. Too bad that stops before all that stubborn flab (including pre-baby weight) is gone! If that was the case, I'd be trying to have another right now! Ha ha.

Diva, I don't think I'll convince auella to use olive oil, but poor DH got stuck with my brown rice and baked chicken Jillybean style (a 3FC member) last night (he's thin as a rail and not too into healthy foods). After asking for a small portion, auella will sometimes bring me a plate with three kernels of rice as a sarcastic joke! LOL

Have a great lo-cal day ladies!

ennay 01-22-2007 09:07 PM

Mami, see last time my baby weight did NOT melt away. It took over a year of serious work. This time is totally different. I gained more with this pregnancy, but my metabolism seems to be better.

ennay 01-22-2007 09:09 PM

oh do I remember the little tin can by the stove to store the bacon drippings in.

floridarusty 01-23-2007 09:20 AM

It's funny when you look back over time, it is amazing that we or our children lived thru it!! lol No carseats, no helmets bike riding, eating everything fried, bacon grease!!! Hopefully the next generation will be healthier eaters with less weight issues.

I did terrible yesterday....didn't count the calories but I am back on track today. I think it's important to get right back on plan if we have a bad eating day, I was afraid to get on my scales this a.m. lol

Phyllis

4me4ben4will 01-24-2007 09:48 AM

Morning Ladies,

Sorry I haven't posted in so long. Things in my life have been way crazy lately. My DH is having a hard time adjusting to having a baby in our life. My sweet boy turned 3 months old yesterday. He is the happiest baby in the world, always smiling and cooing. I just love it.

Unfortunately another reason I haven't posted is that the scales have nothing new to say. I'm stuck at 5 lbs and have been stuck for two weeks. I gotta get moving.

I've got 2 and a half weeks. Surely I can get it done. Keeping my fingers crossed and my butt moving.

Mami 01-24-2007 03:24 PM

4me, big congrats on your little boy! What a blessing :) DH will get the swing of things soon and will wonder how you got along without the little baby in your life.

I've been discouraged to find how difficult it is to lose the weight you put on when pregnant. My baby is 7 months and it is taking forever to get this off! The first 2 weeks after Angeline's birth I lost 32 pounds (including her 8.5 pounds). After that, I lost another 5 pounds in about 6 months..UGH. Since I started strict calorie counting (though I still eat a lot, averaging about 1750 to 1800 per week), I've been losing steadily. Hope that will work for you too (are you entering your foods into fitday.com?).

ennay 01-24-2007 03:45 PM

WOW Mami, after my dd was born in the first 2 weeks I lost 8 lbs. INCLUDING her 6.5. Four weeks later, I was still at that same 8 lbs. It took me a year to lose the other 31

This time I had gained a ton in the last 3 weeks and I did lose about 20 really fast, but then stalled out. But yeah, since I started calorie counting I've been losing steadily. I average 2100- 2250 usually, but I am still ebf'ing and also average about 20-25 miles of running a week plus other stuff

Mami 01-25-2007 09:23 AM

ennay, the rate of loss must have something to do with how much you gained while pregnant. I gained 60 pounds, so luckily I went down from 198 to 167 within a few weeks and that's why I started my ticker with 167. I believe the normal weight gain is 25-35! LOL

Calejo 01-26-2007 07:29 PM

hi... I know I've been gone a long time, but trust me, I haven't fallen off the wagon, I've just been dealing with a LOT of life things. crazy doesn't even begin to describe it. about the same: 177 as of Mon, but TOM just began and I'm hoping it'll go down by next Mon. We'll see. Again, sorry I haven't been on more.

ennay 01-26-2007 08:16 PM

I gained 38 with my first, delivering at 194. I was sooooo determined with the second. I exercised like crazy. I had started 8 lbs lighter so I had high hopes.

I gained 46 lbs and delivered at 194. I started my ticker at 6 weeks pp because thats the point you absolutely arent getting any more for "free"

I think there are a couple reasons why this time I am losing faster. Part of it is that I did work out through the pregnancy and I was in better shape going in so I just plain have a better metabolism and fitness level. One of the things I noticed on my mommies board is that the thin fit girls lost the weight much faster than the not so fit.

The other is that I think I had some insulin resistance issues before my first pregnancy (which led to GD) and I think I caught it early enough that it is largely resolved so it is just plain easier to eat less and easier to lose weight.
