  • Good morning everyone. I've missed posting the past couple of days . Not due to the fact that I've done poorly, I've actually done quite well. I just ate a variety of things, in small portions and I am not sure of the EXACT count. Everything was back to normal yesterday. Ahhh but then comes this huge New Year's Eve party that I have. I for one have had enough of the non-stop food fest. Why does every single holiday have to center around food (and alcohol). It's enough already. Enough I say. There's only so much temptation a girl can handle and I for one am at the end of my rope!!!

Yesterday's calories - about 1100, Yes I nailed it! I feel like i just hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer! She shoots, she SCORES!!! Sorry bout that, I just get a little excited sometimes .

Have a great calorie countin' day everybody!!!

    Good Morning Girls!
    Tuesday's Journal:
    Calories...959
    Fat... 25%
Activity...15 minutes on Nordic Track Skier
    Weight: -/+/same...Same
Lunch Menu: Not much, which is why my calories are so low. I went clearance shopping at Wal*Mart and Shopko, gone for quite a few hours. I took my lunch with me.
    Turkey Bologna...25 calories
    Flat-Out wrap...90 cal.
    Southwest Spicy mustard...10 cal.
    Total lunch...125
Robin...How's the new scale working for you? Congrats on making your daily calories goal, is 1100 where you set it? Are you and Julie having a race, it would be fun to hear about and what you'll both be doing to beat each other.
    Julie...are you up for it?
Webweevil...Garlic mashed potatoes to me is like eating chocolate to a chocolaholic. (I love chocolate but can pass on it quite easily) But carbs are my down fall. I purchased a bread machine a few years ago and have to limit my use of it. I could eat a whole loaf of hot bread with real butter on it.
Anyone using Valentine's day for your next goal is 48 days away. I have to lose 1.5 pounds per week to reach mine, I'll have to step up my exercise. I hate thinking about it.
DH is finally up, guess I'll go downstairs and get on the blasted Nordic Track Skier. It's not noisey but the T.V. is, I have the volume up high.
What's everyone else eating for lunches?

  • Getting back on track today!!!!
Ok, after a two week vacation and now Christmas....enough is enough......I have gained 5 lbs. (not too bad really) but I have had enough food and drinks to do me for quite a while!!!

We still have one party on Thurs. eve and then New Years but I will try to eat small portions and limit to no drinks or just 1. I haven't stuffed myself but just eaten too often and things I normally don't eat.....I feel so bloated.

Back to fitday today, that usually gives me a reality check and also back to my walking dvd (that may kill me today!!!!).

I'm doing my weigh in on Sundays. Phyllis

  • Bobbolink - 959 calories? That's not a lot at all. Are you sure you're eating enough?

The new scale is okay. It measures in 2 tenths of a pound increments and I'm not finding I get the same reading 2x in a row. Which is why I bought it. Whatever. I've decided from now on I will weigh and record my weight only on Mondays. This way I'm not driving myself insane with fluctuations from day to day. I've finally realized that I don't need a scale to tell me when I'm eating well.....and when I'm not.

I try to keep my calories under 1300, prefably under 1200, but lately I haven't done that. I've even had 1500 and 1600 calorie days. I know it's the holidays, but I was just happy to have stayed under 1100 cal for the first time in a few days.

I haven't heard from Julie, I'd be willing to have a good-natured race. I'm not very competive, I just thought we'd be able to motivate one another. I'm always up for receiving some additional motivation.
  • I'm curious - to the women who eat less than 1200 calories a day, if you discussed that type of diet plan with your doctor?

From my understanding, if you eat less than 1200 a day your body will either eat away at your muscle and/or retain fat because it thinks you are starving to death. I only know that as a general rule, so I'm curious as to what brought you to your caloric intake decisions.

Personally, I tried 1200 and the scale hardly budged. I find eating 1500 or so works very well for moving the scale so far.

Here's some exerpts from the good ol' web:

"When your caloric intake falls below 1,200 calories a day, it is also extremely difficult to obtain all the nutrients that your body needs for health and survival. These very low calorie intakes can also lead to other health problems such as eating disorders, gout, gallstones, and heart complications."

From the American Heart Association: "To ensure proper nutrition, women should eat no less than 1,200 calories a day and men should eat no less than 1,500 calories."

"Never eat less than 1200 calories per day! Less than 1200 is usually not enough to support your basal metabolism and thus will slow your metabolism."
  • Hi, I'm 15 and trying to lose weight. I ate about 1270 calories today. This morning I had special K with 2% milk and wheat bread, 230 cal. Lunch I had Special K and 100 cal pack of chip ahoy!, 210 cal. Then I had a pack of fruit snacks fot a snack, 80 cal. Then for dinner I had turkey lunchables, but I didn't eat the cookies, about 300 cal. Then I had another one, but it was bologna and I hate the smell of bologna so I just ate the crackers, cheese, and cookie, about 250. And I had a cup of hot chocolate, about 200 cal.

    Hi MizzDeva,

You didn't ask for advice, I'm not sure if you were looking for any, but since I tend to have the same issues with my diet, I'll pass this on: There are probably too many simple carbs in your diet. Cereal two times, wheat bread (I'd recommend whole grain if your family will buy it), chips ahoy cookies, fruit snacks (which are mostly sugar), I'd guess there were crackers with the lunchables? and more crackers and a cookie, and the sugar in the hot chocolate.

Carbs like those will not fill you up for long, and can actually make you hungrier in the long run. You may want to not only count your calories, but poke around on the web and find a healthy eating plan with a lot of protein and "good" fats, as well as complex carbs like veggies or whole grain products.

I think it will be important for you to keep in mind that although we do like to use the simple "calories in, calories out" saying, that the quality of those calories is also very important - especially when you are 15 and need a lot of nutrients that the foods you just describe most likely don't provide.

I'm glad you've joined us, and I hope you continue to share your journey with us!
  • Hello all!

    day 128 = 1500 calories
  • Good morning fellow calorie counters!!!

Smartbutt: When I first started this venture back in September, I went to see a nutritionist. I checked my health coverage and I was completely covered so I figured what the heck. I went for a total of 5 times and felt I no longer need to see her, there was a co pay involved and I didn't adore her so I stopped. Anyway she was the one that told me 1000-1200 calories. I was shocked, simply shocked when she told me so little, especially since I was soooo big. And I thought there's just no way I can do it. And since I have a mind of my own, I said the heck with her if I need some more calories I'm gonna have em. So there are days when I have 1000, 1100, 1200 and even 1300 or 1400 calories. But I do prefer to keep it under 1200 at least 2 or 3 times a week. I don't think a couple of days under that is going to set me into starvation mode, it hasn't as of yet. My average weightloss since September 4th is over 4 lbs a week so it's kinda safe to say that the scale is most definitely budging. I am never, ever hungry, a blessing that I still can't believe. And almost every bite that I do eat is high in nutritional value, save the rare, rare treat. I have a real lot of weight to lose and it's been working for me. And as they say "You don't fix what ain't broken" And I most definitely do feel that I can do this for life. I am in this forever.

Hi and welcome to the forum MizDeeva. And I second what Smartbutt said. You have to make every calorie count. Vegetables and low fat proteins will keep you much more satisfied and healthier and therefore you will be able to "stick" to this for longer.

    Wednesday's calories - about 1100

    Have a great day everyone!!!!
  • Too Few Calories
[PHPBobbolink - 959 calories? That's not a lot at all. Are you sure you're eating enough?
    ][/php]
Robin.....NO, that is not enough calories. I try to get 1200 in daily but sometimes I just can't do it. Since I live out in the country, I do all my shopping, errands, etc. once a week or so. That means I eat my lunch late, then when it's time for supper I'm not hungry but eat anyway. I try to make up the calories after supper by eating Pudding or popcorn. But you can only eat so much. This was my menu the day I didn't reach my daily calorie goal.

    Breakfast:
Multiple Vitamins, Niacin, Calcium and Salmon Oil (10 calories on the oil)
    Fiber One-56 Calories
    2 slices 12 Grain Light bread-80 cal
2 slices rolleposte meat-76 cal ( lean type of lunch meat)
    Off to town

Late lunch: (I Picked something I could eat on the run while putting away groceries, purchases, etc.)
    Flat Out Wrap-90 cal
    Turky Bologna-25 cal
    Southwest spicy mustard-9 cal
    FF Milk-80 cal

    Supper: Meat Ball Salad
    Large bowl of lettuce-15 cal
    Cucumber-5 cal
    onions-2 cal
    Tomatoes-19 cal
    5 Meatballs-187 cal
    1 Tablespoon Olive Oil-119 cal
    1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar-0 cal

I was stuffed after eating this big salad and still very short on calories so after supper I ate:

    FF Cheesecake pudding-70 cal
    FF Cool Whip-15 cal
Orville R. Mini Bag popcorn-100 cal
    Total 959.
I kind of hit and miss on all the basic food groups and I don't like eating less than 1200 calories, but sometimes it happens. I could easily go all day without eating because I don't ever get real hungry. I love vegetables and could easily be a vegetarian but I'm married to a hunter and we have about 800 pounds of Elk meat in our freezer right now. Also Pheasant, Venison, and Fish. I know lots of people get their calories in by eating high calories sweets, but I'm not a sweet eater. I've lost 5.5 pounds in 18 days, that averages out to 2.17 pounds per week.
O.K. I'll get off my soap box!

    Wednesday's Journal
    Calories...1,158
    Activities...15 Min Nordic Track Skier

Thank you everyone for the input, I'll store it in my pin brain for future use.
