Calorie Counters Keep It Simple -- November!

I just realized that we never started a new thread for this month, lol.

I swear, I wonder how I ever got along without FitDay. Do y'all ever have a day when you can't get on the site or your computer for whatever reason? I can imagine that would be a little scary for those of us who are used to calorie counting. :yikes:

So how are we all doing today, ladies?

I love my fitday. I'm a maker of random whatever is in the cubbord casserole dishes and with fitday, it makes the calorie counting easy.

I'm doing very well today except that one of my coworkers brought in a huge bag of Snickers (my favorite) left over from holloween..I think they are begging me to come eat them. :( I haven't had one, though! But I really just want to consume the whole jar.

webweevil 11-02-2006 08:25 PM

Day 73 over with at 1755 calories. I thought I was going to be really over today. I opened up a bag of Quakes ranch flavored rice snacks and ate the whole bag. This is the third time I have done this with Quakes. Apparently I cannot eat the normal serving size. I love potato chips. Now that I don't eat them, I think Quakes have replaced the chips as a mindless stuff your face food. Luckily I ate them mid-morning, so I could make up for it by not eating as much the rest of the day. No more Quakes for me!

Valerie Joy 11-02-2006 08:30 PM

Welcome to November everyone!

I can't live w/o fitday. I was down for a few hours last week and I missed it!

I was feeling a big under the weather today and didn't exercise.

Thursday: 1126 calories, 1222 deficit, no exercise

callystia 11-02-2006 08:37 PM

Ranch flavored? I probably would have done the same thing, so I'd better stay far away!

Allycatisfat 11-02-2006 08:53 PM

lol...that's why I don't allow ANY snack food in my house until I get my binging under control. DF hates it, but he can deal. So, I have..oatmeal. I can't really bring myself to binge on...oat meal. Blech! lol

At work...the snicker bowl finally won me over ! :fr:

Today's calories: 1,474, I worked out for 1 hour of low impact dancing for 305 calories burned. (Shimmy drills and twist walking.)

callystia 11-02-2006 09:42 PM

Ha! Ally, I did shimmy drills today too. :)

Calories: 1400 even. 1/2 hour bellydance practice, 20 minutes Pilates. 3 liters water

Allycatisfat 11-03-2006 08:48 AM

There's a lot of belly dancers on this board. :belly:

webweevil 11-03-2006 08:57 AM

While belly dancing sounds like fun for both me and the husband, I would be too conscience of my weight. There is no way I would think of showing my stomach. :(

Girl, you need some education! Belly dancing isn't about showing off your stomach or having the perfect figure. It's not about the fringe and sequin bras and belts..

There are PLENTY of costumes out there that are NOT form fitting or skin tight that cover the stomach and torso such as a beledi dress, even a kaftan and coin belt. There are even coats and tops that cover the stomach but the neck line sits below the breasts so that you can wear a coin bra.

In my dance class, the majority of us are plus size. It's so much more fun than going to the gym. It's expressive, beautiful, and makes you feel sexy. If you have two feet to stand on than you can belly dance.

And I can say, even though I am flabby and fat..my stomach is getting leaner. My belly button is not covered by an over hang of fat. My apple shaped figure is turning into a more womanly shape. I would recommend belly dance to anyone wanting to lose weight.

webweevil 11-03-2006 03:15 PM

Thanks for the schooling Allycatisfat! I found a place that teaches in my area but the classes they list are a little confusing. The have normal classes, classes for women over 30, classes for women over 50, and classes for overweight women. The prices vary greatly. I'll have to investigate more.

giovannip811 11-03-2006 05:19 PM

hey guys. i ve been doing calorie counting for a while and it is time for november !

I bet you that they have seperate classes listed to fit comfort levels of individuals. Though the over 50 class probably has a gentler program that is less straining. And for instance, perhaps girls who are plus sized might feel better being in a class together. If you feel comfortable then you dance better! Or maybe the class might be a bit more strenuous to help burn more calories? Hey, maybe the teacher for the plus sized ladie's class is a plus sized dancer. Anyways, your best bet is to call and ask and find out what class is best for you.

Also, a tip:

Pay in advance! If you pay in advance, you won't find a way to justify missing one. I have gone into lessons with a cold. Or so tired I could barely stand it...but I always feel better leaving.

And welcome to ebay. With belly dancing comes the fun shopping! Get yourself a couple of hip scarfs because shimmying around one's house with jingly coins is fun.

Off the belly dancing topic, let's talk about my woes because I am shamefully admitting that I binged. Being taunted by Snicker's bars was bad enough. Then one of my property managers brought in home made whoopie pies, and then came the tea cookies. My calorie content for the day was 2,400.

I can only move on. Thank God that I am not at work for the weekend and can detox from the sugar and not have it around. I feel safe at home, surrounded by unbingeable proteins and fiber.

I just WISH there was a magical cure to curb my binge problem instead of the constant battle.

Oy! G'Night every body.

Hi everyone!

I had an ok day. I didn't get any exercise in

Belly dancing

How do I find a belly dance class in my area that is not all skinny? i love to dance but don't want to feel foolish.

webweevil 11-04-2006 07:07 AM

!

Loveandlaughalways - I just googled my town, state, and the words belly dancing. I was lucky enough to pull up a site that listed belly dance teachers in Florida. From there I was able to find local teachers. Good luck!

Alleycatisfat - Honey, 2400 calories is not that bad! You fell off the wagon one day, but you'll be okay. I remember reading that although we count daily calories, it is the weekly calories that matter. I am sure for the week your calorie consumpton levels out nicely. But be on your guard if sweet homemade foods are your weakness!!! We are coming into that time of year where there is always someone bringing in to work some tasty treat. Will-power is going to be needed. LOL.

Allycatisfat 11-04-2006 11:23 AM

Loveandlaugh - Webweevil is correct. Just google. That is how I found my teacher. You can also go to www.shira.net, an awesome site for belly dancing. When you find one in your area, send her an email or call her if she has her personal contact information on hand. All teachers usually have a beginners level, an intermediate level, and an advanced level. Truthfully, I'm surprised that Webweevil found such a teacher with a wide array. Truth is, your class will probably have plus size girls already. I'll admit that I was a little self consious the first class going into it because of my weight. But, I'm not the only one...My class is a beginner class and we have all walks of life in there. Seniors to little kids. Fat, skinny. You name it. No one judges and we all have a great time.

So far I'm doing good ladies in so far as calories go. It's 11:19 and I'm just now eating breakfast! I woke up at 9:12! G'ah..I hate remembering to eat breakfast. I'm having a light and fit yogurt and a piece of whole grain toast with natural peanut butter for a total of 170 calories.

It took me so long because I was getting my lentils ready for lentil soup. I've never made soup before and I haven't had lentils in forever. (I used to eat them all the time when I was a vegatarian..10 years ago?) I hope it turns out good because..I spent a lot of money on repleanishing my crisper drawer and 1/2 of it went into the pot with my lentils.

I know that 2,400 isn't a huge amount..considering I was eating probably over 2600 prior to my doctor visit (fast food every day), but my Doctor wants me to do 1,400..

And man, am I ever despairing over Thanks Giving and the Holiday goodies that follow. Thanks Giving dinner is not a problem for me...I can fill up on Turkey and be fine with out the 'fixin's' like mashed potatoes and stuffing. I'll probably make a side dish to bring like roasted vestables with olive oil and rosemary or something. Just...Pumpkin pie is my favorite thing in the world.

Last year I made a parfait typle thing using a fancy glass dish. Take ginger bread, cool whip or whipped cream, and pumpkin mix. Bake your cake in advance, like a day before, so it's not as moist. Then make layers of the cake, the pumpkin, and the whipped cream in the fancy glass bowl. Top with crushed gingersnaps and dust with nutmeg or something. I'll do the same thing this year..but make my cake with Splenda and sweeten my pumpkin with splenda.

Thanks! I couldn't believe I found two belly dancing classes in my area. I will call them today and see if they have a beginners class.

I ate 3 oz beef and light yogurt this morning with water after 40 minutes treadmill, 5 minutes weights, and 10 minutes pilates. I know that doesn't sound very appetizing, but strangely enough this morning, I was craving the beef. I was satisfied when finished.

Yay! Glad you found someone. And..I like beef in the morning sometimes, to. It's filling.

callystia 11-04-2006 10:19 PM

I am the queen of unorthodox breakfast food. If it tastes good, is healthy and gets you going in the morning, why not? :D

K, for tonight...

Calories, 1263. Exercise: some dancing, and much walking in the mall.
T'was a good day.

srmb60 11-04-2006 10:41 PM

Hi everybody! I haven't been hanging around much because I've been a poor poor calorie counter lately but I felt the ned to see whate everyone was up to. You're a cheery crowd and I'm glad I came to have a look.
I've had a couple or three decent days in a row ... which is a good thing compared to the couple or three before that. Whew, bad!

loveandlaughalways 11-04-2006 11:19 PM

sluggish

Hi Susan it's okay to get "off kilter" as long as you get back to where ya wanna be...As you've seen, I struggle in other areas too.

Allycatisfat and callystia i'm so glad i'm not the only one who likes dinner at breakfast. Why waste the calories on cereal when you can have a more filling breakfast like beef. LOL

I like breakfast too...but if dinner was really good...Hmmm...might want that instead as long as it is within the calorie count and doesn't make me feel sluggish for the day...

Sometimes if I eat breakfast (potatoes, bacon, eggs, Milk), it makes me feel sleepy. Anyone with the same effect?

LookingForHope16 11-04-2006 11:48 PM

Just wanted to jump in here! Today I've had 971 calories and burned 61

loveandlaughalways 11-05-2006 12:17 AM

hi

Hi lookingforhope how are you doing? Glad you could join us!!

passionfruit 11-05-2006 03:17 AM

Hello :)

Hi all, don't mind if I weasel in :)?
I'm guilty of eating a sugar coated donut today, along with two cheese crackers for lunch :dizzy:. Still thinking about it, it was a very big donut :(...

Aside from that, how are you all? I'm particularly new to this board and thought it would be fine to drop in :)

webweevil 11-05-2006 06:59 AM

Day 75 of calorie counting completed with 1485 calories eaten today.

I contacted a local belly dance instructor. Intro classes start this Monday and run for 6 weeks, 1 day a week. As of Friday, there were still a few spaces open for the class. I registered online and I am waiting to hear back if I got in. This instructor sells scarfs and things at her studio. I don't know if I should buy one there or come ready with my own. I found a local store "Gypsy Palace" that sells the coin scarfs. Any suggestions?

Lookingforhope16 - Do you have a doctor watching you closely? I think most people will agree that eating under 1200 calories a day is not the norm, even when dieting. You don't want to slow your metabolism down so low that your body holds on to everything you eat and refuses to lose weight. If that happens, when you start eating normal again, you'll gain even more weight. I understand the desire to lose weight fast, but just be careful. I worry!
Edit: Sorry LFH16, I see that this is being addressed in one of the other threads. I'll keep my mouth shut. LOL

Allycatisfat 11-05-2006 10:32 AM

I'm posting for yesterday's daily consumption because I was out so late at a dum circle.

Yesterday I only made it to 950 calories and I worked out do my belly dance for fitness DVD for a 1/2 an hour and then some shimmy drills and travel steps for a total of 1 hour. I felt terrible yesterday and I was hungry all evening and I was so tired....and I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why until I tallied up my calories for the day! Yikes! My batch of Lentil, vegtable soup only totaled out to be 1,153 calories for the whole darn batch! I had maybe two cups of it for lunch. It's really low calorie (but it was tasty). I'll post the recipe in the recipe section.

"I contacted a local belly dance instructor. Intro classes start this Monday and run for 6 weeks, 1 day a week. As of Friday, there were still a few spaces open for the class. If you don't hear back from her today, then I would take down what ever number she has listed and call her Monday morning to see. If your teacher sells hip scarves for a reasonable amount of money, then go ahead and get one from her. However, mine sells hers for like 35-45 dollars (they are gorgeous, to) and I simply can't afford to purchase one with the upcoming wedding. So..I bought mine on eBay. Some go for .99 cents and up to 14.99. Just be sure that shipping is reasonable. It's always a good idea to have more than one, so maybe puchase one from your teacher or the store and then get your others from ebay. In truth, you don't really need it..but it's a very helpful tool more than it is an accessory. It helps with the visualisation of isolations, plus it helps you keep the beat.

Also, it is very helpful to have a mirror in your space where you practice. I bought three door mirrors at Target for 5 dollars a piece and I bet Wal-Mart is even cheaper.

"Sometimes if I eat breakfast (potatoes, bacon, eggs, Milk), it makes me feel sleepy. Anyone with the same effect?"

Omit the potatoes. If I eat anything that's high on the glycemic index in the morning, I'm screwed. Eating a simple, highly absorbable carbohydrate in the morning with the fat disables the bodies means of processing that fat. The fat is stored and the sugar gets used. If you choose to eat a starch with breakfast, make it complex and healthy like a 1/2 cup of quaker oat bran or old fashioned oatmeal, a gronala bar (that's not loaded with sugar), beans, or maybe a slice of whole grain toast (package must say whole grain. Look at the ingrediants and make sure that there is no "enriched" anything in it.)

Today, for breakfast, I ate a serving of cheese and some scambled eggs.:T

Hi, Passionfruit.

Later, Ladies.

OnePerDecade 11-05-2006 03:03 PM

So far, I've done well at calorie counting this month. Using Fitday has really opened my eyes -- I had NO idea how many calories I really needed to survive. The best part has been finding out how many calories I can burn doing housework - my house has been immaculate for the past 3 days!!!!
Cal eaten/cal burned
11/1 - 1575/??
11/2 - 1400/??
11/3 - 1424/3282
11/4 - 1361/3609

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Reports section -- especially calories burned vs calories eaten!

Allycatisfat 11-05-2006 11:11 PM

I had a better day today. I made it up to 1,558 calories today and worked out with my fitness DVDs for a total of 1 hour.

No sugar today! :carrot:

My Goal for Novemeber

My weight goal for Novemeber is to get down to 147 lbs! Hope I can do it! :carrot:

OnePerDecade 11-06-2006 09:04 AM

Calories for 11/5 -- 1625 in/3396 out
A little high but I'm still averaging just over 1400 day in.

My goal today is very simple: Don't screw up.
My tween angel is home sick & the DH is working overtime, so I won't make it to the gym & I really can't take the baby out for a walk & leave the tween home alone. Plus that, stuck at home + fridge full of food= trouble usually.
Goals: Lots of housework, some WATP, 1500 calories, lots of water, no empty calories (and win the lottery) :)

Allycatisfat 11-06-2006 12:20 PM

Goal for the day: 1400 calories. I know working out with not be in the days reptoire. Going to my mother in laws house after work. Also, to remain binge free of course and stay away from the lure of sugar.

webweevil 11-06-2006 03:27 PM

I am so depressed today and need some good yibes. :( I started counting calories 77 days ago. I tend to eat around 1600 calories a day and haven't cheated even once. What got me started dieting was after being weighed at the doctors in mid-August. I was shocked at how much I weighed! Within a week I started counting calories. I never weighed myself at home. I planned to judge my weight loss by my clothes. My clothes have gotten looser and I am even able to wear a pair of pants now that I haven't worn in at least 4 months. Well, today I got the bright idea to get on the home scale. :o Hey, it's been 77 days. I figured I must have lost 15 or 20 pounds. Well, the scale said I weigh EXACTLY the same amount as what the doctor's scale said two and a half months ago!!!!!!! I haven't lost a single pound. This is an expensive fat % scale!! I know I have lost some weight, but I just expected to see a large drop, not the same weight as mid-August. I am so depressed!!!

OnePerDecade 11-06-2006 05:39 PM

So, webweevil...did your pants magically grow in the closet over the past 4 months? Of course not! Don't be so hard on yourself...you have had success!:carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

callystia 11-06-2006 11:40 PM

K, verrrry low on calories today because I'm sick--again. But given that I got upset and had an utterly disgusting binge yesterday (so bad I stopped counting the calories), I don't think one day of restriction's going to hurt anything.

Calories, 409.
Exercise: some dancing, lots of housework.
I clean while playing bouncy music, so I end up moving more quickly and semi-dancing the whole time. :)
Water: 3 liters, maybe a bit more.

loveandlaughalways 11-07-2006 12:50 AM

housecleaning

What a great way to clean your house. :) What type of music is bouncy music? I need to clean tomorrow; maybe I will try some music.

callystia 11-07-2006 01:00 AM

Hee! By "bouncy" I just mean things that have a good beat and make me want to move. It can be anything from hip-hop to Celtic. :)

Thanks OnePerDecade! You are right. No matter what the scale says, my pants are looser and I am wearing a pair of pants that I couldn't wear before. :^: Those darn scales!!!!

By the way, I took my first belly dancing class last night. It is going to be harder than I expected. The teacher has pointed out that she is a stickler for proper technique. Isolating your rib cage and hips and getting them to move the way you want them to is difficult. It is a very small class, so we all get hands on attention.

OnePerDecade 11-07-2006 09:30 AM

Well, I made most of my goals yesterday -- except for the WATP thing. Oh - and that lottery thing didn't work out either *tee hee*

BUT...This morning marked 3 big milestones for me. One, I weigh one lb less than my license says I do...Two, Today's weight of 167 is exactly 60 lbs gone and Three, It's my 43rd birthday and I am alive and well and healthy and loved and happy :)

Today's goals:
Exercise with the baby (we like to dance), keep calories under 1500, lots of water, NO empty calories just because it's my birthday (or for any other reason) and win the lottery.
