Wow! You ladies have so many good ideas! And I'd sworn off fast food for over a year now thinking it was all crap!!!...
I do have my 2 cents to add though. As a teenager I worked at McDonalds for a bit and their burgers really are made of 70% soy (it keeps their costs down) - it's not just a myth. So, if your husband wants fast-food and you are just craving a burger, then McDonald's is the better choice - at least for the meat part. As for the cheese, mayo, ketchup, bun - that's a whole other story!!!
As for pizza, I have yet to find a solution to the fast-food pizza problem! I try to go to places that sell salads too (like Papa Murphy's), and stuff myself with a a big salad first. Then I only eat one piece of pizza, instead of 2, 3, or 4! Some people go for the low-carb and thin-crust pizza. I would too, but it seems I just end up eating more slices! The big salad is what works best for me.
One of my favourite meals now that is inexpensive and quick is that I just keep a couple cans of flavoured tuna (lemon dill or spicy thai chili are my favs) in my purse (I know I'm a diet geek) and then if a friend wants to go through the McDonald's drive through I just grab a side salad (or two if I'm hungry) and throw the tuna (they have pop-tops for convenience) on there and a little bit of dressing and you have a great healthy meal for under 200 calories. If you don't want to carry around tuna because you're way cooler than me you can order a chicken McGrill with no mayo and toss the bun and put that on the side salad. But yeah, convenience is still possible on lower calories, just takes a little ingenuity and preparation.
Thought I would put my 2 cents in, if you end up at a jack in the box, their southwest chicken pita is really tasty and only has about 260 calories. Its a pita with grilled chicken, black beans, corn, onions and lettuce, and they give you a little bit of salsa which really adds a lot of flavor and kick to it. I actually crave this thing, its so nice to give into a craving knowing that I'm not going to balloon up for it. Now to just conquer the urge for cinnamon buns...
My solution for pizza is just to be really good before and after....cuz I know I'm gonna binge! Pizza is like heaven to me (well until I finish eating it anyway...).
Oh boy! Here's my topic! I travel so much, drive so much that sometimes a fast food drive thru is the only option available (if I cannot find a grocery store off the freeways to pick up some fruit).
