Red face Calories, excercise, and starvation mode

Hello there,

I have a question but i didnt know where to post it, here or the excercise forum..
My average daily caloric intake is about 1250 cals.. and i have lose 7lbs in 7 weeks..I want to lose a bit faster and would like to know wether i'll get into starvation mode if i go down to about 1000..
also if i excercise and burn about 200 cals a day.. does that mean my intake is like (1250-200).. and if i increase excercise will it be as if i consumed less cals and would i get into starvation mode?
I'm on Jorge Cruise's 3 hour diet but i'm counting calories and i'm going to stick to it for as long as i can.. but i desperatly need to lose around 18 lbs before June 15 coz i have an important occasion then.. any ideas what i could do?

I'm 5"3' and weigh 130lbs.. my weight goal is 112.. and don't excercise at all!

Any advice is welcome.. Thanks

Emma

I shouldn't be on the computer any more. I have some place to be. But I wanted to give you a couple of things to think about.

First of all, yes to the question about 1250-200 cals of exercise.

It's hard to get all the nutrients you need into a low calorie diet. That's why most folks will recommend that you do not eat less than you are. Do a search for starvation mode here at 3fc. It's a vastly misunderstood and waaaaay over used term. What most people are refering to is metabolic slow down, which should not occur if you are exercising.

Then I'm going to recommend that you look into weight lifting. It's fun and actually increases your metabolism.

Then I'm going to ask 'why 112 lbs?' What's going to happen if you are only 117 lbs? or 120 lbs?

Then I'm going to caution that you may be far smaller at any weight than you anticipated. If your aim is to fit into a certain outfit ... keep trying it on. It may fit long before you thought it would.

Let's see what the others have to say.

If you're only losing 1 pound/week, I don't see any harm in decreasing calorie intake, since it is healthy to lose up to 2/week. Sometimes you just need to adjust your diet andn the amount of calories you consume a day to meet your needs. Since you are on the shorter side, maybe decreasing that number would help you out.

I personally do not recommend going down in calories any further. You are losing 1 pound a week, and that is in the healthy range for weight loss.

The thing is, a healthy rate of weight loss is 1/2 to 2 pounds a week-so you could lose up to 2 pounds a week and be healthy-but not really in the way that you are suggesting.

If you want to lose more than 1 pound a week-rather than dropping your calories lower, which is already at a low range-what you need to do instead is start exercising.

Diet is only PART of the equation. Exercise is the other part. You can lose weight by changing your diet, but to get "fit" you need to exercise. A low calorie diet may make you smaller, but it doesn't make your thighs firm, or flatten your abs. Only moving your body does that.
