  • Hi Lucille,
Yes, I have also been doing a number on desserts. And not walking much, which is my exercise. My husband loves his dessert, and we stock the freezer/frig with marked down about to expire items from the local supermarket. Then when I'm tired or late at night I eat right from the box - hense my committment to get to be by 11pm. And I'll get that to earlier also.
Lately its slipping to as late a 1am.

I think the reason I haven't gained more back is because I gave up nuts and cheese, don't have any in the house. Although the almonds are good for raising HDL , or is it lowering LDL? DH would have 7 nightly, but I would have handfulls.

I really have to work on setting a portion and eating the served amount. That's why writing foods and calories down, and the measuring, is such a great tool. My mind can't say I need more when I know I've had 4-5 oz. meat or fish.

Glad to see your message this am.
  • doing good this AM. Trying to tie up a few loose ends. Have to run see ya chicas later!
  • Last night I saw on tv about a 16 or 17 year old who had a gastric procedure. The one where most of intestine is removed to prevent absorption, and then lots of vitamins are needed. I snoozed thru the last few minutes but I'm saw him much lighter. Must have lost 200 lbs or 235. I am reminded that they can fix the stomach but not the head. These procedures actually don't work for everyone when eating is so compulsive and emotional.
    I HAVE TO DO THIS.

  • Did anyone see "The Biggest Loser" last night? I think it's a two-show special edition. This edition is about two newly engaged couples. I'm siding with the red team.. Anyhow, I was really surprised when the woman on the red team weighed in for the first time. She was 297! (That's about where I am.) I'm guessing that she must be pretty tall because I honestly wouldn't have guessed that weight for her. She lost 25 pounds during the two weeks at the camp (her fiance lost 30). Now they are on their own for a few months and both couples will return to find out who wins a $50,000 wedding. Personally, I like the special edition versions of the show more than the competition version. Okay, so they still show couples or families competing, but it seems like it is more of an "on your own" type of thing once they are at home trying to lose weight.

My husband has been gone all week and when I told him the other night that I was going to watch "The Biggest Loser" he said that maybe WE should have our own competition. I told him NO WAY! I don't like the feeling of competing, especially when it comes to weight loss. Plus, besides the fact that he's a guy and can lose weight faster, he also can skip meals without getting headaches and all that stuff. I want to lose weight in a healthy manner. I don't want to starve. I also don't want to eat lettuce salads as meal for every meal. I don't mind having a salad before a meal.. but my mind also needs to be satisfied. Anyhow, I'd rather have him on MY team with this.

A few new things with me.. I'm now wearing a cami-walker -- one of those boot things to stabilize the ankle and foot. I fractured a bone in my left foot by stepping off a kitchen chair (hanging valances). I also got lab results back and my cholesterol is 244! So, now I'm taking Vytorin. (My parents both have cholesterol problems so it's heredity and food-related.) The foot/boot thing bites because I can't walk on the treadmill. Soon though...
  • I missed that episode of Biggest Loser last night (sorry, Lost trumps Biggest Loser ). I can't even imagine losing 25 pounds in 2 weeks! That is craziness! I'm actually going to a Biggest Loser casting call on the 21st, but I doubt they'll pick me, but it'll still be fun to go and see how it all works and meet some other hopefuls.
  • I have TiVo recording all of the Lost episodes for me. My husband isn't really a fan of the show -- mainly because he didn't see any last year. Of the new season, I think I watched up to when the folks on the raft came ashore and found out the other people had lived. The rest are being recorded for me. ONE of these days I'll get to sit down and watch them all!!
  • Hi Kimberly
  • Wild Goose Chase!
I was going to visit one of the local TOPS meetings tonight because I kind of like the "group thing" for support. So... I went to where it was supposed to be (lower level of the clinic) and was told that they don't meet there anymore. Hmmm... I got my information off the official website. I went home and called the Chapter Leader and she looked up the info and told me the same info as the website. Then she gave me some numbers to call locally of the leader, weigher, etc. I called one of the numbers and spoke with the weigher's husband. He said they meet at the clinic. ??? So I jumped back in my car and booked it to the clinic and the back door is locked. How odd is that?? Anyhow, I left a voicemail with the local TOPS leader to call me back tonight. I'm curious as to where they are meeting! (It could be that the weigher's husband is just clueless as to a change in location for the meeting.. LOL) Anyhow, I guess I'm staying home tonight. At least it's a good night of television.. CSI, etc. I wonder when Big Brother starts up again? I just checked the CBS website and a new Survivor starts on February 2!! WOW! Very cool.

    Hi Lisi!
  • Well, I can't help you with where the TOPS meeting is being held but I can with BB, lol. It's only in the summer. They usually start the first week of July and go through like September. I don't care much for the CSIs. I know, DH and I are the only ones in the entire country. However, I love Invasion and Numbers. Oh yeah, we're big SciFi Stargate Fans. OMG, Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex) is just too sexy! Shhhh, I think DH is suspicious

And give yourself a pat on the back for actually getting in the car TWICE to do something for yourself that you know will help you succeed! Kudos
  • Hi Ladies,

Only have a minute to check in....

I LOVE THE BIGGEST LOOSER!!! great show and so motivating.... haven't been catching this new one?

I am doing really good eating. I have been doing the new weight training ever other day and working out 5 days a week. I feel great but haven't seen the scale move. I am praying it is the new muscle...

Lisi ~ My skin is really thin and stretched out and looks like two tires! I hate it and the rest of me is in good shape. The tummy will never go away and I know the skin will never go back. I am only 15-20lbs to my goal weight and it is all tummy. This will be the end to my weight loss and on to maintaining. I feel this is just fixing the damage I did and will make me even more active and be able to wear what I want. I am already a confident person so this is not about self esteem but I will feel even better about the way I look! I am excited. It is on February 9th......

Hope you are all OP and moving every chance you get. Walk the stairs at work or walk at lunch but keep moving.....

Holly hope all is well with you, you are always in my thoughts!

    Amie
  • Amie,
You are a big inspiration to me. I had weight off for about 7 years with OA in the 80's Then I just started getting back to old bad eating habits.

ONE THING I WILL SHOUT TO YOU IS ALWAYS BE VIGILANT AND KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING. WATCH OUT FOR EMOTIONAL EATING.

I was not OP the last couple of days but definately am aware again. Today was better than yesterday and I hope to get back to healthy eating.

Kimberly, I think it was you who talked about not wanting to eat lettuce. Well, yes, eat whatever you like - but in the end it is all about calories consumed vs. burned. Salads are good if you like something to chew on for awhile. The minute I tried to reintroduce carbs, even whole grain, it was harder for me to limit quantities. Looks like I need to get back to SBD South Beach. I thought that was a good modification of Atkins, a very healthy way of life.

Nuf said, love hearing from y'all.
  • Kimberly, your efforts to get to that meeting show how much you want to succeed. Bravo.
  • Not a bad day. I don't know if I stayed op or not, but I don't feel like I stuffed myself. DH was late from work, so he decided to take everyone out for pizza. (a kiddie fav) I did ok, but really should have had only 2 pieces, but I think I had 4~but they were kinda small. I took my sibs home after dinner~my dad will be home late (bowling night) but I can stay here and leave for work first thing in the morning. I do miss my friday night with DH, but this will all be over in 2more weeks. YAY! Well, The kids are sleeping and I have a little work to do. Great motivation Kimberly!! I wish I had the time to go to meetings and stuff!! Good luck annie will be praying for you during the proceedure. Night ladies!
  • I'm just recently back from a 2 year "vacation". I am counting my calories again with Fitday.com. I've been doing pretty good for the week. Down 3 lbs. finally. I've been trying to keep my calories at 1200-1600 a day.

Today has not been the greatest though. Haven't felt too good today and went too long without eating. Then made the mistake of going to get groceries! Took my mom out to eat and ate chicken pot pie and broccoli casserole. I'm at 1773 calories now.

Haven't been able to work out too much although a little. Been going to physical therapy for my foot problem. I swear - I turned 40 and fell apart! The physical therapist says no walking as a form of exercise yet. Been working on my Total Gym when I can. Tried some new DVD's (cardio) but have to be careful with the foot thing. Couldn't even get through the warm-up section on the first one. Those kind of kicked my butt!

Been busy reading on this site. Looking at all the recipes. Some yummy ones out there. My problem is that my 13 year old is so picky! My DH works at night, so dinner has to suit my son too. Basically all he eats, other than pizza and junk, is bread and meat - no veggies except corn and green beans.

    Glad to check in today!

    Tammy
  • Hi, all, I'm new and very eager to get to know all of you!

I've always believed that counting calories is the way to go, and I'll be limiting my calories to 1,000-1,200 most days (I'm short and have a small frame), with permission to splurge an extra 300/day twice a week.

My focus is on getting the 5 servings of vegetables and 3 of milk/dairy that the US gov't recommends we have each day. I figure this will ensure I get nourished within my calorie limits. Weekly, I'm aiming for at least 2 servings of fish, at least 2 of beans/legumes and 2-4 of beef. Yes, beef, because I have iron problems, but lean cuts of beef have only 1 gram of fat more than a lean chicken breast, so it's a matter of counting my fat grams, too. The rest of the day's proteins can be turkey, chicken, tofu, whatever as long as it's within my calorie and fat limits.

And nothing is off limits, though I'm trying to keep junk food as a planned treat for once in a while, not something I eat every day.

I'm starting the diet now, though I won't be starting my calorie count until tomorrow. I've gotten good at planning my meals around vegetables rather than meats ("I ought to have spinach tonight, now what can I make to go with it?" rather than "I'll make meat loaf.") over the last few months, but I need to track my calorie intake. I lost 20 pounds, have kept it off for the last two months, but haven't lost more, mostly because I started munching again, so that has to stop.

Tammy, the easiest way to get veggies into your son is to put them inside a sauce or casserole that has things he likes. So for example, onions, green peppers and tomatoes fit into spaghetti sauce. You can even hide some chopped broccoli in there. Will he eat Chinese or Indian food? Those cuisines have developed wonderful ways to use veggies, to make them delicious. And most dishes use a variety of veggies in them, but under a tasty sauce and cooked nicely, not boiled down and yucky.

OK, guess I should post this and not run on and on.
