August Goals.

Hello Chickies,

So august is coming right up, and we have exactly 8 days to prepare, think through, and strategize some goals for august!

I find that sometimes it takes some time to actually think of "what's up" and where your priorities lay.

New clothes for the fall?

Lower digits?

Eating cleaner?

More workouts?

What do you hope to achieve in August?

For me, I am no longer calorie counting "strictly" but I am being mindful of the calories consumed- it's like intuitive mental calorie counting of sorts, I would like to continue this, and to see results that would leave me back down in the low 170's. That is about 10-12 lbs in the next month (I do have some water weight right now, so I think it's doable).

I would like to continue not taking an interest in food- I think my food obsession was what created this backslide, and food is just fuel. Nothing more, nothing less.

These are my personal goals- so here's to a healthy, productive month of August!

mirax3 07-22-2012 10:27 AM

I would like to be to my original goal (165) by the end of August. I have been taking it very slow and focusing on weight training so around 4-5 pounds is reasonable for me! :)

envelope 07-22-2012 11:08 AM

I would like to lose 10 lbs in the month of August.
I will be redoing C25K -jogging for the walking part and jogging faster for the running part.

stimkovs 07-22-2012 02:05 PM

Those all sound like reasonable, and achievable goals!!

envelope that sounds like an awesome plan for the c25k round 2. i keep trying to run, getting through week 1 and then giving up lol. worst determination, ever?

angie7896 07-22-2012 07:24 PM

I would like to get below 170 in August.
I have vacation at the beginning of the month so that will be a challenge. I have read some posts from people about how on vacation they ate whatever they wanted and gained alot then felt awful about it. I don't want to associate vacation with bad feelings so I am going to watch what I eat.
Good Luck to everyone in August!

CherryQuinn 07-22-2012 08:02 PM

I would like to lose 7-8lbs from august 1st to september 1st. Aiming for 2lbs a week and there are there are 31 days not 28 so that gives me some leeway as well as if I only loose 7 I will still be very happy. I'm learning not to be so hard on myself. If I become too focused on being exactly 2lbs a week I lose track of all the funs parts of life. I am hoping to lose another 22lbs by hopefully the first week to middle of october to get some new clothes. I'm just gonna be tossing my too big for me clothes and replacing it with whatever size I am then but thats my fall goal. I am also switching to a less red meat diet just because red meat calories are higher and tend to throw off my days more often than white meat, I am also learning to love fruits and veggies this month and august as well as 30-60 minutes a day of exercise.

Daphne 07-22-2012 09:41 PM

Hello. I've been lurking for awhile and figured now's a good time to jump in. My goal for August is to get down to 172. I'm really looking forward to being in the 170's as I haven't been there in around five years.

envelope 07-22-2012 09:50 PM

I am enjoying reading every ones goals.

Stimkovs - when I first did C25K I did not look at it as a running program, but as a jogging program. I know there is technically not a lot of difference, I just felt like jogging gave me permission to go as slow as I needed too as long as I was jogging. :) I completed a 1/2 marathon and was the LAST person to finish who jogged the entire time...but I JOGGED THE ENTIRE TIME! So it was a success for me...even though I was slightly disappointed that I finished seconds over 3 hrs.

lovetoloose 07-23-2012 01:53 AM

I would love to join in!
My goal is to come down from 149 to 139 by end of august. We are going away on vacation for a week and that would be a challenge.I have just started taking control of my eating habits , but tend to ruin all my efforts during the weekend eating all the stuff I should not be eating.
May be we can all update each other every week to keep up the motivation.

toobig 07-23-2012 06:28 AM

I am going to join in also. My June and July goal was 166 so I guess I will continue to shoot for that and keep up the 2 miles with the dogs every am.

stimkovs 07-23-2012 06:47 AM

envelope that's still awesome!!

did you just...register for the half and decide to do it?

i don't run, i jog- but i guess we have to start somewhere? i mean i just find that.. i will start, and then all of a sudden get busy and slack and then give up. do you do c25k every other day as recommended?

toobigaugust is your month. you can do it!

envelope 07-23-2012 07:51 AM

Stimkovs - Yes! That is exactly what I did. I registered for the 1/2 marathon (Sept 2011), I searched training routines for a 1/2, and started following the one that worked best for me. (Summer 2010) I completed C25K for the first time.

For C25K I do not follow the every other day aspect. I usually jogged 5 days a week. I guess this worked for me, since I was not pushing myself to limit?!? I do not know, but I know that when I did C25K my weight loss was amazing.

I have not been jogging very much this summer. Which is crazy, because I love to jog.

pigginpodgey 07-23-2012 09:38 AM

Hey there! Just going to jump in here as I really need to get back into this!
My goals for August are too:
1. Lose 7lbs
2. Plan, plan, plan! Dont let excuses ie I didnt have time to make a packed lunch, im too busy to exercise stop me from achieving goal number 1!
3. Make time for myself, treat my body with respect!
4. Make August rock for me!! Fed up with yo-yoing, have been trying to get under 252 for AGES time to get properly under!!

mortonpixie 07-23-2012 09:50 AM

So healthy to write these goals down! Somehow putting them in writing makes them real!

1. CONTINUE to plan and shop for 7 suppers per week. We never eat out any more because of this and it's saved us money AND calories!

2. STAY the course on the green smoothies...I stared in in June and had one every single day, then in July I've averaged about 5x's/wk...I started having them for breakfast, to get it out of the way for the day!

3. SURVIVE my first P90X/INSANITY hybrid schedule. I've done each program individually, but together might kill me!

4. I would give a pounds lost goal - but those are so hard to quantify with hard exercise...maybe better with inches lost??

So...do we check in periodically to report progress? Once a week or more, or is it casual?

RVAscreenwriter 07-23-2012 09:59 AM

Hello, everyone. Gosh. It's amazing that it's almost August. Time flies!
WOW to everyone's goals. They sound great. Mer du Japon - If you don't quite meet your goal, I'm sure that your busy lifestyle will help you to lose the last few! charlaine09 - I totally agree about red meat throwing one's day off. I have cut down and it's helped me a lot.
My plan is to lose ten pounds in August. If I meet my current goal of losing another three pounds by August 1st, my goal is 168 by August's end. Good luck, everyone!

CarryOnLosing 07-23-2012 11:10 AM

Not setting any goals viz pounds to lose like I did in July. So my goals for August are:

1. Continue counting calories
2. Exercise for at least 45 mins a day, 6 days a week
3. Remain optimistic that I will reach goal weight/size
4. Treat myself to something new every fortnight for staying on plan

~

stimkovs 07-23-2012 01:02 PM

i would like to add two other goals:

1. learn to say "no" and understand that i don't have to eat it all today, i can have some next week. in a sense that, i don't always need to get something extravagant when going out to eat, because right now i am in a situation where going out to eat sometimes cannot be avoided. when eating, i would also like to stay more aware of my hunger signals.

2. start running again in august. 2-3x a week.

Matilda08 07-23-2012 01:41 PM

assuming i make my goal of 224 for this month for august I would like to lose 6lbs getting me down to 218. I would like to stick to my calorie intake each day.

GenghisKhan 07-23-2012 08:22 PM

This is really inspiring!

My goals are 1) to keep counting calories/staying on target, 2) to continue to exercise 3-4 times a week and 3) to not weigh myself between July 31 and Aug 31.

stimkovs 07-25-2012 09:12 AM

i am stuck.

i've been at the EXACT same weight for the past 3 days. something's up.
like, to the .2 same weight. i'm assuming it's the joy of having a uterus, and will be expecting a whoosh. =)

unfortunately though, i mistakenly bought midieval times tickets for my mother for her birthday, and tonight is the night. i have done the calorie count, and the meal is about 1500 cals. Clearly not okay.

i am okay with about a....500 dinner.
literally, that leaves me with the soup, the spare rib, and maybe the garlic bread if i get adventurous.

THE CHICKEN IS 723 CALORIES!! seriously?
i can't even work that one into lunch tomorrow- how frustrating.
i will be good today, and tomorrow i will see a drop. RIGHT SCALE?

uoduck 07-25-2012 02:55 PM

I'm in!

My goal is 10 for august and to work out 5x a week! Really excited to get going even with my vacations to boston and california... we can do it!

Ladybug10 07-25-2012 10:27 PM

Great thread!

1) I would love to lose 5 pounds in August.
2) Stay dedicated to calorie counting even when school starts.
3) Begin cycling again at the gym.
4) To only go on the scale once a week.

stimkovs 07-26-2012 08:53 AM

i ate the chicken. TOTALLY ate the chicken.
and the ribs.
and the soup.
AND the slice of garlic bread.

BUT said no to dessert (probably for the first time in my life).

also, saw a nearly 2 lb drop on the scale (presumably due to losing water weight from not having to sweat it out at yoga)

i was definately at about 2100 cals yesterday, even though i try to keep it under 1700 on yoga days, and about 1500 on off days.

wierdddd body, wieeeerd.

philana 07-26-2012 10:23 AM

stimkovs - goodluck with the intuitive eating. I have been doing that the past 3 months and gained maybe 2bs or so, but that's mostly what you will gain when you eat less strict. Everytime I got back on a weightloss-mode it dropped down those 2lbs quite fast. I felt it was quite easy. For weightloss I need to really focus/count though, but I am very close to goal so that might be why.

--

As to my goals, well.. be on plan again. The past year I've been on plan for maybe 6 months total. The rest of the time I try and maintain because I just dont wanna count calories and I can't lose when I don't count. I don't gain when I don't count, which is a good thing. So, if I could work hard and drop 5lbs I am gonna be very close to goal. And then I can focus on exercise goals more.

So, counting calories is all I have to do really. That's how I stay OP and the lbs start to drop. 1200 calories for a week, and back to 1500 after that. 1200 to kickstart, 1500 because that's easier to do.

that's an awesome idea actually.

i'm trying to keep a couple of "calorie check" days and just plug it in and see that i'm still eating where i should be, but when you do your "kickstart weeks" do you find yourself full of energy? do you plan your social committments around it?

i find that when i have super low days, im pretty much almost bedridden due to lack of energy lol

toobig 07-26-2012 04:35 PM

I'm really liking the idea of a kick start week. I may work that into my August goals.

Texas Yankee 07-26-2012 08:13 PM

I am traveling the first week in August and a lot of the food will be out of my control. But I can control the portions and have choice over what I say yes to and what I say no to.

My goals for August are:
1. To continue calorie counting, even while traveling.
2. Stay within my weekly calorie budget.
3. Walk the dog at least 4 times a week (after traveling)
4. Weight at most 262 by 8/31, which will be 25 lbs total lost (approximately a 6 - 7 lb. loss for August.)

JossFit 07-26-2012 08:43 PM

I actually just posted this in a thread about "mini goals" but since mine were all for august/first weekend in September I guess they fit here!

My mini goals are pretty short term;

Goal #1 =Get my workout and diet focus back (just got back from my honeymoon and though I'm "on plan" I'm not kicking butt like I was)

Goal #2 = Get weight back to 116-117 pounds (Was 114.8 before the vacation, and no idea where I am right now... I'll weigh in on Saturday for my weekly check and go from there)

Goal #3 = Keep diet clean/on plan until next vacation (in 5 weeks)

Goal #4 = DO NOT do like I have done the last two visits to see my husband; I eat decently during the trip but then end up massively overeating/binging on the trip home. I hate leaving him and I medicate with food... it's the ONLY thing that still makes me do that!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Philana, Stimkovs - I'm doing a bit of a "kickstart" as well to get off a bit of the honeymoon bloat and weight. I generally keep calories in the 1200-1300 range for a few days before taking the next week or two slowly raising them back up again to maintenance.

Oh not at all! But then I think for your height super low days would be about 1500 right? Or even a bit more? It would be the same if you with your height ate 1200 as it would be for me to eat 800 or so. I'd be tired too I think.

As to social activities, they just go on! This weekend is my bday and I have a lot of meeting-up-with-friends. But with one friend last night we had a small picknick and I asked him to prepare healthy food which he did (tuna and leafy salad, couscous with cucumber and feta and some bread with tzatziki, YUM!) and we just had sheesha (waterpipe) with apple tabacco. It's not healthy but I LOVE it and it has no calories. LOL. I saved some calories for dinner and decided to walk everywhere so even if I went over 1200 some it matters none to me. I don't count it on those kinda days. Today I go to the beach with a friend for a long walk. I am gonna bring my own drink and some cucumber and mandarin that I put in the freezer for a bit first. So we do't have to sit at a terrace and order stuff, or when we do I only order a light icetea or something.

Basically for me social activities are either active or when they are passive activities with food it's mostly healthy food. It's not like my friends want to go out and order big meals anyhow. We all love some bread with hummus or a salad from all our trips to the middle east. This mindset also comes from trying to not spent too much money because Uni is friggin' expensive LOL

stimkovs 07-27-2012 08:46 AM

joss first and foremost, can i just say how BEAUTIFUL and HAPPY (like you could poop a unicorn type of happy) you look in your new display? like, its AMAZING. congrats, so many congrats, you're such an inspiration!

i am more then certain you can get your food thing together! and good luck on your weigh in. it's amazing that you have it figured out to what makes you get "snacky". i actually had the same epiphany last night. i had to cancel a date that was supposed to happen today because i just...realized i wasn't ready. we all know how that ended.but the thing is? what i medicated with, the quantity calorically, and how i felt after it, i maybe ate between 1000-1200 extra (that's me being very generous- it could be as low as 700, i dont track these things) then i skipped yoga, and went to bed as early as i could, but with that, i realized a couple of things. 1. im not ready. 2. i don't want to be ready, and 3. things just need time.

so, with my realization- this snacky thing you're doing- it needs time, and with time, even if it's baby steps of gradually eating LESS to have that feeling. baby steps.

philana - really? i try to go for about 1600 on all days of the week, workout or no workout, then again it might also be the cause of all my issues. because i consume SO much water during bikram, and you sweat out like, 2-3 lbs in a practice usually, your body just HOLDS all water for the next 10-12 hours, so it's often hard for me to get an accurate weight unless it's the morning after a day off lol plus bikram calories burnt are impossible to calculate so i just assume it's 500-600. but then again, i have this nasty habit of over calculating calories in, and under calculating calories out haha.

you're also really lucky that your friends are active and happy and healthy! i had a group of friends like that when i lived in Ottawa, but the thing with toronto, there's so many things to do, and a lot of the culture here revolves around food, carby food, and drinks. i try to resist really hard, but you know...seeing food and not eating it is a huge issue lol

LOL Poop a unicorn happy?! You are too funny! Thank you, we just finished up our ceremony and photo shoot at that point, so we were happy to have it over with and ready for a cocktail!

You are totally right though, it's good that I'm seeing this emerging pattern and know what's triggering it. It's happened the last two trips, and a few times before that too I'm sure, so I would be a dolt not to see that for what it is; a big old trigger! Grrr! So yeah, that will be a big goal for me this next trip.

As for your date situation, I can relate. Sometimes I have found myself in a place where, rather than force it, I just chose to stay in and "play it safe". I don't know that I've ever regretted it, but I'm sure I might have had I gone out and overdid things.

sagebrush 07-27-2012 10:13 AM

This is my first time on the monthly goals thread. Your goals are all so inspiring! I've been yo-yoing between 149 and 150 lbs, so I was planning to play it safe for August, but I think I need a kick in the rear! I'm going to go for a 10 lb loss. Good bye 150s AND 140s!

My goals are:

1. Start running with Dh. We're going to go every other day. We'd like to train for a half marathon, but I think we'll start with a 5k. We already walk 4 miles a day when we're both in town. Summer time has really thrown us off.

2. Weight train and pilates at the gym. I literally have not been back to the gym since I had my baby 18 mths ago! I'd like to try body pump 1x a week, and Pilates a couple times a week.

3. Keep up with intermittent fasting. I started a couple days ago and it's been going well. I'm not hungry or tired and it seems to be calming what I felt to be too much focus on food and calories. I eat dinner, and then, I don't eat again until lunchtime the following day. It helps to keep my calories in check when I'm spreading them between two meals instead of three. I'll use this month to try it out and see how I feel.

AbnormalRhombus 07-28-2012 08:24 PM

I just started my weight loss journey again strictly about a week ago, started counting calories using an app on my phone and have lost my first five pounds in that week.

My goal for August is to lose 10 pounds by the end of the month. I have been sticking to my allotted calorie amount pretty strictly,I haven't gone over since starting so I am pretty confident in being able to reach that goal. I want my size 18s to feel loose.

Northernrose 07-29-2012 07:04 AM

I'm going to shoot for 6lbs in August, though I am going on holiday for a week, so we shall see. I aim to keep eating well & making good choices while away. I'll be in the south of France so lots of lovely salad & veg I hope :D

SW: 221.6
GW: 215.6

Good luck all!

gailr42 07-29-2012 06:36 PM

1. Continue to count calories carefully - weigh and measure my food

2. Work toward walking 2 miles, three times a week. I am up to 1 mile now, but not sure I can do it three times a week.

3. I want to loose 5 pounds in August.

lyssie 07-29-2012 10:11 PM

Hoping to keep my binges less then 2 this month :D
~oh, and losing 5-10 pounds would be amazing, but the binge comes first :D
-goodluck ladies :D

alaskanlaughter 07-29-2012 11:18 PM

i cant focus on the scale for goals...my weight loss has been SO SLOW...but here are my goals for august:

- continue calorie counting and staying within a healthy range
- get back to my focus on low sugar, low wheat foods
- increase my running distance...right now i can comfortably do a mile and a half in intervals on the treadmill...i'd like to get up to two miles comfortably, perhaps increasing the length of intervals...i've had difficulty with increasing speed because it bothers my ankles (weird!)
- continue weight training on the machines, increasing weights

Mer du Japon 07-30-2012 09:34 AM

I lost 13 lbs in July, more than I expected, so my new goal for august is to lose 10 lbs-be 168 by the end of the month.

4star 07-30-2012 10:11 AM

I am going to keep this month as simple as possible. I got my fitbit replaced so I am going to start using it again! :carrot: It seems since summer began, my calorie burn has dropped so I will need to adjust for that. I am also still adjusting to a new medication and am having some bloating. Anywho, back to basics it is!

For August, I will be aiming for the following:

*1400-1600 cals daily
*workouts 3-4 times a week

I don't want to set a weight goal right now. I have been struggling the last few months with one issue or another so I just want to focus on doing what I need to do and trust my plan to do it's thing. Since pressuring myself doesn't help, I want to practice patience and awareness this month through slow, purposeful baby steps until I find my groove again.

SunnySide99 07-30-2012 10:06 PM

I would love to be in the low 230's between Aug. 1st and Sept. 1st., but I am giving myself until mid-September to lose 8 - 10 lbs. There is no reason in particular, just a personal mental goal I want to achieve.

I'm trying to take things slow and steady. I feel like I'm at a good place to make this goal. I no longer have extreme cravings for sweets and junk like I used to and I look forward to my daily workouts so this time I think I can really do it!

Good luck everyone!!!!
