Default New here...need support

Hi all,

I am new here. Started working out 6 days a week and counting calories about 15 months ago. I have lost somewhere around 55 lbs as of last week. I haven't weighed myself in a few days because I am feeling icky (period) and have over ate a little on my vacation last week.

I was keeping my calories at around 1300-1500 daily when I started. I was working out on my elliptical and burning approx (according to the calorie counter) around 1000 calories. As I progressed, I increased the time and now burn anywhere from 1350-1700 calories per day. I have been increasingly hungry and have gone a little over now and then, but nothing drastic. I also allow myself 1 free day or meal on Saturday of whatever I want.

Anyways, I am struggling right now. I am not sure why, but I have gained a few pounds. I can't figure it out...I really can't work out any longer on my elliptical. I know that I have overdone in here and there with my calories, but I honestly thought with how many I was burning that I would at least maintain...not gain! I know I need to get on the scale, but I am really scared...things feel a little tight. Its also that time of the month. I just want to motivate myself again to get out of this panic place and keep on going. I am only 10-15 lbs away from my goal!!!! I am actually a "normal" size and weight for the first time in my life....haven't been in over 25 years!!!

Any words of encouragement??? It seems my mind is the only thing getting in my way right now!

Congratulations on your 55 pound weight loss!
Just look how far you've come and don't let a little set back get you down!

Do go ahead and weigh in keeping in mind there can be fluctuations in your weight that are merely temporary. In the past ignoring the scales for a few days often lead to me quitting my diet altogether. I feel it's better to know what you're dealing with than to ignore the scales.

-This is awesome!! You are close to your goal weight which can make loss slower but be patient with yourself, don't give up, and you'll meet your goal!

You got this! You've done so well and you'll get over this hump.

Like EatMoreCelery said, your weight might just be fluctuating. Also, if you ate something really salty then you may be retaining water which can cause the tightness in clothes you're feeling. Be careful with that.

Have you tried calorie cycling? It's where you eat a different amount of calories each day. Some days you'd do 1200 and some 1600. There is some good info on calorie cycling on these boards. This link also gives and example of a good week of calorie cycling once you put in all your information. http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

You also may want to try doing more strength training than cardio. The cardio is great to burn fat but you want to increase your muscle mass so you keep burning more after working out. Muscles burn more calories than fat throughout the day.

Switching up your workout routine and your food may help. Good luck and keep us updated on how things go!
