Food Scale!!

  • So this is kind of a random post but if you don't have a food scale you have to go out TODAY and buy one. I was a measure freak about everything I ate, and now that I have a food scale I see how off some things were with measuring!! You won't regret it, it'll be your new favorite thing in the kitchen, I use it for everything!!! Just got done with my 152 grams of strawberries snack for 50 calories!! Anyone else love their food scale like I do??
  • I've never weighed, measured, or used a food scale. FOR ME it would take some of the pleasure out of eating. If ballparking no longer works for me I may reconsider, though.

    F.
  • Oh yes!! I absolutely love it, I was totally off with the sizes of a lot of stuff. (Particularly fruit, meat, and cheese.) Definitely a huge help.
  • It's one of the best investments I made for my kitchen!
  • I got one on the weekend and I love it too.
  • I have one, but haven't put the batteries in yet. I was wondering how you account for the weight of the plate/bowl when you weigh your food? I would imagine you wouldn't put the food item (like a piece of fish) directly on the scale.
  • I love a food scale. I would like to invest in a really good one. What does everyone have? I think mine's Chefmate...
  • Guacamole - when I put a plate or bowl on my scale I hit the "On" button again and it zero's the scale out so it will weigh just what I add to the plate/bowl. Works perfectly.
  • Guacamole, you can zero it out once you've put the plate on it! Mine is Taylor and it's digital!
  • Love the food scale. It keeps me accountable. No fudging serving sizes.
  • I love my food scale! It especially comes in handy when I'm making lunches for the week. I put the tupperware on, zero out, add meat, zero out, add grain, zero out and then just measure in veggies. Repeat 4 times and I have all my lunches done for the week!

It sits on my counter like any other kitchen tool.

Oh! I didn't know that...I would just weigh whatever container would hold the food first!
  • Thanks for the info!
  • For the longest time, I thought food scales were for people way too fastidious about controlling their food, maybe even anorexic, LOL. The I got one and realized how much more accurate they are, especially for weighing things like portions of meat which are always variable, not easy to "eyeball", and even a variation of a few ounces from what you think you're eating can result in a variation of a hundred calories.

My scale (a "Biggest Loser" branded scale that I bought at Meijer for $20) zeroes out so I can weigh each item as I put it on the scale, including the container, and now I find myself using it every day.
