Having trouble getting all my calories in!

  • Ive decided that I will do 1500 a day. Well.....problem is that Im full waaaaay before I get to that amount. I dont know what to do. Im afraid if I eat to far under that I wont loose any because of the whole starvation mode thing, but I have a hard time eating when Im not hungry. (funny coming from a fatties mouth huh lol) For example, by the time dinner came around last night I still had 880 calories left! Can someone give me an example of what they eat in a days time that is around my calorie limit?

I realize that Im probably making this harder than it has to be, but Im just at a loss. The portions that Im eating are VERY filling and I just dont know how Im supposed to get up to 1500 eating healthy foods.
  • I am having the same problem. I haven't made it above 1000 for the last 5 days. My plan was just to eat when I was hungry(I have been relearning portion size) and keep track of the calories. I used to constantly overeat, It didn't matter if I wasn't hungry anymore, or that shortly after eating I felt like I would burst and would have to take Tums every night. So I am trying to listen to my body.
  • if you feel like you are super full (a) teach me, because im SUCH a grazer
and (b) eat higher density lower volume foods (so instead of 0% fat, try the 2% yogurt) etc.
  • Are you kidding me?! I feel like 1500 calories isn't ENOUGH for me...I'm also working out tho...are you working out?

Anyways what types of food are you eating that make you full?!?!! Do share!? Don't say chug lots of water either cause water doesn't fill me up or make me feel full....LOL

Maybe try 1200 calories? I hear don't go under 1200 is bad...so maybe that'll help? Eat 3 proper meals a day and two snacks to keep the calories up?
  • Add a drizzle of olive oil to your veggies, some avocado or olive oil mayo to your sandwich, full fat dairy, snack on peanut butter and nuts.
  • I agree with the suggestion for more calorie-dense food. If you're buying diet products and/or fat-free or low-fat products, start buying regular fat products. Put some avocado and/or nuts on your salad; both will bring your calories up substantially. Use nut butters. Use full-fat dressing on your salad. All of these will increase your calories.
  • I used to have this problem all the time. I realized that I was cutting back on certain things like vegetable oil and healthy fats that my body NEEDS. I also don't eat "diet" foods. I don't buy any pre-packed stuff and stick to a real food approach. I eat anywhere between 1500-1600 every day.

Today for example, I've eaten and will eat the following

    Breakfast:
    - 1 yoplait strawberry yogurt mixed with 1 cup blackberries and 1 huge kiwi and topped with a tablespoon of dark chocolate granola (270 cals)

    Morning Snack:
    - 1 slice flax bread toasted and topped with 1 tsp orange marmalade, 1 cup cherries (220 cals)

    Lunch:
    - 1 serving homemade veggie ricotta lasagna (250)

    Afternoon Snack:
    - 1 pear (100 cals)

    Dinner:
    - 6oz chicken breast baked in the oven, 1 cup mashed cauliflower and a huge salad (500 cals)

    After Dinner Snack:

    -Popcorn & Apple (165 cals)

    Hope that helps!!
  • I would suggest adding some fat. They are really calorie dense, so you would have to eat a lot to add calories.

Oils, butter, avocado, a slice of bacon, some nut butters, sauces (like full-fat ranch or sour cream) are good calorie adders.
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil or butter helps add flavor to many meals and would certainly bump up the calories.

I wish I had this problem.
  • I had the same problem on yesterday and looks like today is heading in the same direction. I"m racing to find something to eat. I have 736 more calories to eat and I"m not hungry. The water is making me feel so full.

Why not something 500 calorie link and an indulgent 200 calorie snack later?
  • I have the same issues. I am trying to work through them. Hopefully once I start working out full time it will help.

Thank you for the link and the tip. I will try that.
  • anyway, as for your situation, try to make fresh fruit drinks, if you have a juicer, and try to put as much variety as possible.
