Default Protein Bar Recommendation

Well, school will be starting soon enough, and as a grad student I'm a very busy person. I don't live close enough to home to back for food, and I'd rather not eat at restaurants. I plan on making my lunch/snacks as often as possible, but was hoping to bring protein bar for those days when I'm right out the door.

I'm looking for a bar that's
-very high in protein
-very high in fiber
-low in sugar

I enjoy Luna bars and those similar, but they have so much sugar that they actually jumpstart my appetite rather than satiating it! When I eat them, I'm much hungrier all day.

So, please, make some recommendations! Thanks

I do not eat protein bars, but when I have to head out the door quickly I usually grab some combination of the following.
light yogurt or 2
1 cup cereal in plastic container
hard boiled eggs
apple and any other fruit I have in the house
cheese stick
what ever raw vegis I have cut up or ready to go...cucumber, green peppers, carrots, brocoli
natural apple sauce
skinny cow cheese and a piece of whole wheat bread or a pita. When I putthe raw vegis in with these it is delicious!
ice that is double bagged to prevent leaking.
Coffee cup which does double duty as a water cup when I have finished my coffee.

I would rather have extras that I bring home then to be hungry while at work or school and have to go out and buy something. Not only do I usually save cals, but I also save money.

I have an insulated lunch bag that I keep silver ware and napkins in ready to grab, load and go.

I love the Pure Protein (Chocolate Deluxe) and Chocolite bars - I did hear that Balance is coming out with a lower-calorie protein bar (I think 120 calories)....so I'll probably try it if chocolate is involved! Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I think my biggest concern is with the sugar, which is really damaging to me. I'll take a look at some of your suggestions.

Hello! I love the Special K meal bars that are 180 cals. I also really like the Myoplex bars (chocolate chip or peanut butter). They are 180 cals and have a lot of protein. Good luck!! Oh yeah, you might also want to try the no sugar added carnation instant breakfast, low calorie and I think 5 grams of protein.

I could try the shakes as well. They're a bit less portable than the bars, and I'm not a huge fan of "displaying" the fact I'm on a diet (it's not that uncommon to get weight loss comments when you're drinking something that looks like a slimfast shake), but maybe I could find a way around that by repackaging the shakes.

I really like the Atkins Advantage Chocolate Peanut Butter bars. They are 240 cals, so sometimes I only eat half. I'm totally with you on the sugar thing. These have 1 gram of sugar. There are 10 grams of sugar alcohols, but those do not seem to affect me. They are also loaded with protein (19 grams I think) and I believe they have something like 10 grams of fiber too. The biggest downside of these is that there is a fair amount of saturated fat, but I since I don't eat much sat fat anywhere else, I don't worry about it too much.

I'm currently a fan of The Zone bars...if you like dark chocolate then I highly recommend the Dark Chocolate Almond. YUM! My boss loves the Chocolate Caramel...and Chocolate Cookie Dough ACTUALLY tastes similar to cookie dough.

I've been looking into other brands as well, this thread is just what I needed, good luck!!!!!!!

I stumbled upon thinkThin bars at the grocery store last week, got the brownie crunch and chunky peanut butter ones to try. They're not bad, actually the peanut butter ones are almost good! They have zero sugar, and 20 grams protein.

Taste wise - I absolutely LOVE NuGo bars - the milk chocolate or peanut butter especially. Both me and my husband eat them a few times a week.
