Right now it's important for me to get used to keeping track of my calories and eating a balanced diet with few processed foods. Sodium isn't something I want to ignore, but my priorities are elsewhere at the moment and I'll deal with the sodium question once I've got a better handle on other things. My next goal is to start incorporating exercise into my life, so sodium isn't going to be addressed for a while yet.

Thank you all for reassuring me I'm not going to be doing permanent damage by ignoring my salt intake for the next few months!
Smart & Wise Choice! All of this is going to take time for you! Get this calorie counting down and soon you'll learn your favorite foods/meals and you won't need to weigh as much and you'll be quickly adding stuff up in your head too! an easy expert for yourself.

Listen, sodium is bad if you have too much. Ok, point blank. MSG- monosodium Glutamate is hidden in almost everything too...very very bad! So be mindful that although the sodium be ok..this ingredient is not!

I track my salt...but that was more a well after thought to getting down the calorie counting, buying new foods to match my healthy approach to eating and implementing exercise...wow so much to learn...take your time but keep it going!
  • Sodium, carb levels, fat levels, these are the nutritional issues that fluctuate according to the latest studies. I believe we each need to find the information, review it and take the time to decide on it for our own diets. We should be monitoring how we feel on the diet, how it works with our bodies and resulting weight losses or gains. we are all our own science experiment!

For ME, excess sodium can make me retain fluids temporarily. So will excess carbs. I do not have high blood pressure and since I have never detected a health problem with sodium, I do not worry about my intake. I do not eat a lot of processed foods anyways. I love sausages and bacon and will have them without freaking out about the sodium. This is kind of the balance I seek to regulate my eating patterns, understanding the cause and effect and what works and what doesn't. If I see my ankles look puffy or the backs of my hands, my fingers feel a bit stiff, I know I need to drink more water and eat less salt. Easy to adjust my diet as I go.
