I made a wise food choice.

Today for a snack I grabbed a cucumber rather than the candy bar I wanted.

That is all. I may add to this thread so I can see the positive progress I make. feel free to add your own.

alicia89 04-18-2011 07:46 PM

Congrats Aiesline! Today I put a bit of salsa on my salad as dressing instead of the extremely high-cal blue cheese dressing that I really wanted.

yhahmd 04-18-2011 08:02 PM

good job! I turned down White Castle for dinner the other night- didn't have a single one!

j0lamo01 04-18-2011 08:16 PM

I was at the grocery wanted to buy a mini ben n jerrys(because I had some extra calories today) then I looked at at package and passed it up because it was 250 calories for such a small amount instead I am going to have an instant iced latte with milk for 150 calories.
I like this thread keep up the good work ladies!

aimeebell 04-18-2011 09:59 PM

Today, I mashed up partially frozen strawberries with a fork, added a packet of Splenda, and voila the most delicious tasting faux icecream ever. YUM. The rest of the family had coconut pie, so my strawberries were a good choice.

corazonas 04-18-2011 11:44 PM

hehe I just imagined you eating a cucumber like a Snickers, wrapper and all.

I ate all homecooked OP food today! :yay:

Morethananumber 04-18-2011 11:48 PM

YAY!!! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

manders01 04-19-2011 12:36 AM

I was all ready to post this in the CC Easter Challenge thread but it very appropriate for here...I was SOOOOOOO good at the baseball game tonight! I brought an apple and enjoyed it with a Famous Dave's Chopped Pork BBQ sandwich. I was thinking about having a beer before going to the game but once I got there, I decided to skip it. Thought about some of the sweets there - churros, glazed nuts, cinnamon Tornadough - and skipped them all. Was chilly and almost grabbed a hot chocolate but skipped it. SOOOOOOO much temptation and in the end, I managed to eat only the thing that I had already planned for and that fit in my daily allotment. :cheer2:

yoyo mama 04-19-2011 12:42 AM

You guys are an inspiration!

Aiesline 04-19-2011 03:10 PM

Today I grabbed a water out of my fridge instead of a diet coke. Thanks for joining me ladys :)

corazonas 04-19-2011 03:23 PM

i've had 7 glasses of water already today :)

Emme 04-19-2011 03:30 PM

That's awesome!

Today, when I really wanted a 3 Musketeers bar, I grabbed my FiberOne Oats & Chocolate granola bar...saved me about 120 calories!!

Amberelise 04-19-2011 04:10 PM

Today I volunteered to walk to the Trump Tower to pick up some Cubs suite tickets for my boss. I got an extra 1,000 steps on my pedometer. And, I did it in the rain, wind & cold. :)

LLBoldAsLove87 04-19-2011 06:12 PM

I'm craving pasta, and I just bought some shirataki noodles to make chicken pad thai with! 40 cals and 2 carbs rather than LOTS of cals and carbs!

WendeeLou 04-19-2011 06:23 PM

Today, I went thru the drive thru (sorry- bad word!! Lol) to get an UNSWEETENED Iced tea (add Stevia of my own) and instead of picking up lunch there, like I REALLY REALLY wanted to, I resisted and ate the chicken, brown rice, and veggies I brought to work! :cp:

aimeebell 04-19-2011 09:21 PM

Today I made chicken breast stuffed with laughing cow cheese, spinich, and mushrooms. I also made perogies and salad, but skipped the perogies.

OhMyDogs 04-19-2011 09:29 PM

Today, while my family had fast food (my husband, as much as it may not sound like it to most, was helping me out so I didn't have to make dinner for him and the kids), I had my chicken veggie casserole and green beans.

corazonas 04-19-2011 10:08 PM

I went to my moms for dinner- yeep!

Their menu:
BBQ meatballs
roasted potatoes
fried okra
homemade bread and butter

I brought with me a big premade package of veggie skewers to share and since i honestly didn't trust anything esle i ate only the grilled skewers with salt, pepper, parmesan cheese

they also had homemade brownies and cookies! luckily i brought along fresh strawberries and fat free redi whip.

i think i made some darn wise choices!!

I would love to have your recipe for this.:)

I had water instead of sugar laden cola today.

manders01 04-20-2011 12:25 AM

Aiesline - thank you for starting this awesome thread! We all get so down on ourselves for out slip ups but forget to congratulate and be proud of ourselves when we make a good choice. Congrats to all who have and will!!! :cb:

No recipe really, I just sauteed some mushrooms, cut a slit in chicken breasts, filled them with laughing cow cheese, a sprinkle of parmesan, the mushrooms, and spinach, sprinkled them with a garlic salt and pepper mixture, quickly sauteed them in a nonstick pan coated with olive oil just to brown them, then put in a 375 degree oven until they were done. It took mine about 20 minutes in the oven.

I do a variation on this with the Queso Fresco and chipotle flavour , I cook it in a nonstick skillet and when it's almost done I top it with fresh salsa and put a lid on. SO good :)

Last night I turned down takeout when my husband offerd to go get it and had a healthy meal from home instead.

yhahmd 04-20-2011 11:09 AM

Tonight is my dad's b-day dinner, hope I can keep it together. If all else fails I'll order some kind of chicken and try to get veggies (broccoli hopefully) as a side. And I'll most likely only eat half, depending on how big it is to begin with. No desert, but my family never orders it anyway so it's all good :D

I'll let you all know how it went...wish me luck! 163.8, trying to get to 159 asap!

Sounds yummy! I also do it with asparagus, lemon zest, and goat cheese. The possibilities are endless.

VermontMom 04-20-2011 12:21 PM

BIG congrats to all these winning choices!! :cheer3:

As I was preparing dinner I snacked on celery sticks.

After dinner but before bed, I SO wanted 'something'! Looked at the box of breakfast cereal that was tempting me..the calorie count wasn't too terrible, but the carbs are high and usually one bowl with skim milk tastes SO good it just makes me want another.

I took down the cannister of whole oats to contemplate a half cup of oats, but that didn't quite appeal to me. Ended up measuring 1/3 cup of the breakfast cereal (store brand version of Flakes, Nuts and Fruit) and ate that piece by piece with a hot cup of green tea. And I can't believe it satisfied me  but it did.

Eating after dinner is something i really need to work on, but last night was the first that I've caved since re-committing to getting smaller and fitter (2 whole weeks, lol)

yhahmd 04-20-2011 06:10 PM

Tonight was a family members birthday dinner; I was slightly nervous. I ended up having the maple glazed chicken with steamed broccoli in place of rice, 2 glasses of water, and a big salad (dressing on the side i dipped my fork into). I turned down the biscuits, though on the way home I did buy a mini pack of Charleston chews because I've been REALLY craving some chocolate lately, and there's cake at home that I don't want. 13 pieces is 180 calories. I had 2, and put the rest in the freezer, and I still have 400 calories left for the evening. I have no idea how that happened haha.

Anyway, I'm quite pleased with myself!

Aiesline 04-22-2011 08:00 PM

so tonight my husband walked in with My favorite desert from the Fresh Frozen custard place down the street and said he wanted to split it. I was good and said no thanks and had yogurt with some cherrios and fresh strawberries instead. It was really really hard but I did it. I did however tell him he was evil.

aimeebell 04-22-2011 10:18 PM

I was laying in bed unable to sleep last night thinking of PIZZA, which lead me to think of pizza all day. Normally I would cure that by fitting pizza into my plan. Well, I am doing this reduced carb experiment this week, so I didn't want to give into this craving. I bought my kids McD for dinner, then headed to my parent's where they were eating guess what?? PIZZA. I ended up having chicken and veggies for dinner. So, I made it through the lower carb, pizza-less day, and was reminded all day of why I just calorie count and eat what I want, because eliminating anything makes me want it more. But I commited to it to one week, so sticking with it-one more day.

j0lamo01 04-22-2011 10:36 PM

I was in my room just now on this forum when my mom calls saying she is craving a hamburger and wants to take me out to a diner. I told her I can't go off of my diet. As much as I'd love to go out to eat right now I know I have already used most of my calories today and I didnt want to ruin a whole day of hard work.

canadianwoman 04-23-2011 05:51 AM

I had sunflower seeds in the shell instead of potato chips while watching a movie.

THanks. I will try this asap. :)

We do this with almost all of our meats. We do a little non-stick olive oil spray to get them seared on the outside so they retain their juices and then finish cooking them in the oven. We get the nice seared cooked taste without adding all the fat. It's really been a great trick.

corazonas 04-23-2011 09:49 AM

I reeeeallllly wanted to lay in bed and watch netflix and munch all night but I did NOT.

j0lamo01 04-27-2011 06:51 PM

Gas Stations are a new threat to me! On my way home I needed to get gas so while I was pumping my gas I thought about how easy it would be to go get a coke and a candy bar like I used to! I wanted it so much! I decided not to but I know that I could have and I came close to it. I had a really good day yesterday I was below my calorie limit and I didn't want to ruin by going off plan today.

JEN3 04-27-2011 07:12 PM

This is a great thread! Last night after dinner I felt hungry and wanted to eat something. So, I went to the fridge and said to myself you can have as many carrots as you want. I ended up going to bed and not eating anything.

j0lamo01 04-27-2011 11:36 PM

haha that is funny KT great discipline!

atreyyena 04-28-2011 01:59 AM

to the poster about the pizza, have you tried making tomato pizzas? Just put your pizza ingredients on a tomato and put it in the toaster, they're great little pizzas without the carbs and calories, and because of the tomato as the base, you don't even need sauce! :)

VermontMom 04-28-2011 07:04 PM

Love the tomato pizza idea! and permission to eat as many carrots as one wants

In the past couple nights, husband has brought home Edy's Drumstick Ice Cream; a cheap, poor quality blueberry pie; a bag of chips and onion dip. I haven't had ANY. The pie and ice cream are gone thank goodness; hopefully the chips will be gone soon. that means unfortunately all that crap is in HIM but I can't do anything about that.

addictedtofitness 04-28-2011 07:20 PM

This is a great thread! Very inspiring when I want to snack!
Keep all the great food ideas coming, I love hearing different ideas :P

@vermontmom- I know how it is when there is junk in the house (from my husband or mother), you just want someone to eat up all the temptation, lol. I try to pass it onto the kids or my husband usually eats it. I try to get him to eat better and workout more, but oh well, you can only change yourself :D

JEN3 04-28-2011 07:33 PM

I live with someone who brings in Junk Food galore. He buys really good stuff and it's almost irresisitible. It has derailed my diet more than once. Now, I put his junk on a high shelf in the pantry and even put boxes of minute rice in front of it to hide it from site. When I really feel like I want a snack with crunch I eat Total Cereal dry it has really big flakes and it's almost feels like your eating a chip. The crunch appeal is great and does the trick for me. Better yet it low in calories and doesn't make you feel guilty if you flub up.

3/4 cup has 100 calories, 23g carbs, 5g fat, 2g protein and 100% of 12 vitamins & minerals.
