Default Desperate for a new Counter

Ugh ~ caloriecount.about.com changed and the new format frankly sux. I wish they would just go back (and if they do, someone tell me) so I need a new website that lets me put my recipes in, my meals in, and what not. Anyone got a good site they love that's easy to use. If it's like the old CC, that's great, but I'm up for anything. Thanks.

I use the daily plate and I love it. It has a recipes and meal options. I also like that it tracks things in addition to just the basic stuff. I do not have the paid version and I don't think I am missing anything.
Spark People is pretty good too though not as user friendly IMO.
Congrats on your loss so far! That's awesome!

I also use the daily plate (aka myplate aka livestrong.com). I used to use fitday but switched because myplate just had lots more food listed. I have typical meals and recipes there as well and it has made doing my daily counting very easy. I tell people myplate and 3FC are the reasons I've done so well on my weight loss journey.

Okay, I just tried livestrong.com and big thumbs down when "hard boiled egg" has no results. And the pop up for "newbie food logger" or whatever it was is too "Farmville" for me. I want something for adults I guess. I'll give it a try because I love the water counter. That's cool. But so far I'm 40/60 on it.

Any other suggestions? I'm pretty computer savvy which is why I liked the old CC and don't like the new.

You can turn those badge things off on the daily plate. I never have any problems finding what I am looking for on there, but to me an egg is an egg. If I hard boiled an egg, I would just look up "egg" because nothing has been done to it. I eat a scrambled egg every day and I just search for "egg". It comes up with all kinds of variations of "egg" then, like scrabled, poached, hard boiled, etc.

I have tried Lose it, the daily plate, spark people, and fit day and the one I keep going back to is the daily plate. It has every item I could ever want in the database, and I like the layout. For me the size of the database is my number one priority, with the layout being a close second. If I had to pick a second favorite, Lose it would be my choice. I like it almost as much as the daily plate.

Jesse, you might also like the Calorie King book to use; it's good to carry around in case you have to eat away from home.

Good luck!

I like the layout of Lose It. I'm going to register.

For those that use MyPlate, does it adjust ever for burned calories just from being alive? CC would have a daily estimate of what you would burn just by being awake and moving based on your sedentary, active, moderate, activity level. MyPlate only puts in what I do so if I walked yesterday but am too sore to walk today, even a peanut puts me over in calories versus activity. Does my question make sense?

For example: yesterday I burned 1252 calories according to what I did above and beyond house work and shopping. I ate 1170 calories. So it says my deficit is only 82 calories. That won't help me lose weight.

I think w hen you start out with TDP, you tell it your weight and stuff, and how much per week you want to loose per week. It's been a long time since I first signed up, but I think I remember that. It then tells you your Basal metabolic rate (so as you said, calories burned by just being alive), and then your target calorie number, which includes your deficit. Or, you can input your own target calorie number, which is what I do anyway. All weight loss calorie calculators tell me I should eat way more calories than I think is correct, so no matter which one I use, I adjust it down.

One thing I do like about Lose it, aside from the nice, free app thatI have on my ipod, is that you can have "friends" on there and easily share progress with them. I log my weight loss in there to share with my weight loss buddies, but I don't use the calorie counter on there.

hmmm, I really like the new format on CC, LOL. Esp the water tracker. I'll let you know if it goes back to the old one.

Hmmm, just out of curiosity, as I went to TDP to input my breakfast and lunch, I typed in hard boiled egg, and it came right up. Weird that it didn't for you.

I use my fitnesspal (one word, but censored to stars for some reason?) and I really like it a lot. Plus it has apps for iPhone and Android, and working on one for Blackberry. I use the Android one, and it has just updated the app to use barcode scanning as well.
Quick and easy to use, by far my fav, and I've used quite a few.
