Favorite Calorie Tracking Method
I want to start religously tracking my calories. I use to use The Daily Plate, and I loved it, but then it went to livestrong, and I'm starting to notice that it is kind of pokey and slower than it use to be. Maybe it's b/c more people are using it? At any rate, I have been lax on counting daily.
Which site and method do you use? What do you love most about the site or method you use? |
I use sparkpeople. it's kind of pokey on my computer, but I like it on my phone.
|
I use Loseit! They make an app for the iPhone/iPod touches. It's awesome and you don't have to have Internet connection to connect to it. They have thousands of preloaded food and you can add your own, create recipes, track weightloss, and check in with your friends. It's cool! You don't have to have an iPod touch or iPhone to use it, just makes it easier on the go!
|
I use LoseIt too - on my iPod touch. But I have found that I really need to double check the calories on a lot of foods. It's great for restaurant and supermarket foods though! I like having an automatic tracker/calculator with me at all times. Keeps me way more honest and up to date on what I've had.

I'm going to check out lose it. Will see if it works on the iPad too, now that would be cool. Charging my dead phone now

I do kind of like the layout of LoseIt. So, if I don't have an ipad or iphone, itouch, I can just use it like any other calorie counting site?
|
Looks like you can. It has web site access so we can get it on phone and via web site. I'm downloading to phone now
|
This is a mother. I have to get 2 calories for coffee?
It came out that I need 1,648 calories per day . |
I was using the free download Calorie Counter by Fat Secret on my Blackberry but once it hit a top 25 free download its just overwhelmed and always locks up so I started using The Daily Plate and its better. Id like something less glitchy but it works for what I really NEED it for. Thinking baout downloading it for my phone so I can use it if Im out. Anyone use the app and have feedback?
|
I am enjoying Loseit! I like the layout, and it's very easy to navagaite. I have noticed, and I don't know if it's b/c the site is newer or what, but I've had to add a couple of my own foods already, cause they weren't in the search.
|
I have tried Sparkpeople, lose it, fit day, and the daily plate. My counter of choice is TDP. It sometimes is slow, but it's not like I'm in a huge hurry I guess, in fact I uaully am inputting my food as I eat it, so I have time :)
|
I use Livestrong :)
|
My favorite iPhone app is called "Nutrition Menu". It does all I need and is easy to use.

I love lose it- it takes all the thought out- recalculating your calorie needs based on your exercise and weight as your weight changes. Some things about it annoy me- you have to spell correctly, and when I am in a hurry, it is easy to typo and it won't guess/correct like most apps do. But it is always within arms reach so it is convenient for me.
Before my iphone, I liked fitday. |
Pammi, is that July of this year you were a 14 and now in December you're a 4!!!!!!!!
How the heck did you do that? |
I've tried them all....but for simplicity, and the option to backdate I use myfitnessplanner :)
|
I use LoseIt too. It does have a decent database, but I have had to "create" some foods. The nice thing is once you create them, it's all done and in there forever to access again. I also like the "previous meals" option. I eat pretty much the same thing for breakfast and lunch during the work week, so I just tap "previous meal" and yesterday's foods and calorie counts pop up.
My biggest annoyance is when you go to select an item off the restaurant database, it only lets you do one at a time...so if I have a chicken sandwich AND a cup of soup, i have to go through a bunch of screens in order to add the second item. Overall, though, it's user friendly, portable, convenient and FREE...so who can complain about that? |

Yup :) I did it by religiously counting my calories every single day and I was working out 5-6 days a week. Intense cardio was all I was doing the 1st two months. I was wearing a HRM also, and I made sure the calories counter was hitting at least 900 every session...... |
you were your own biggest loser. Wow. That's amazing. Got any before and after photos?
Will you slow down the intensity now that your a size 4 ore are you going for a 2? |

I can send them to your email if you like :) My goal was always 125 and now that I am closing in on it, I will probably aim for 115 or 120. Losing weight is very addicting! :carrot: |
I splurged a few years back on Crosstrainer 6 software. Nice, because even if our crappy dial-up internet goes out, which it often does, I can still log my food. And it's quick because I can save meals for easy entry.
|
Feel free to email to me I want that addiction but I'm over 50 so I probably won't get that small.
|
I use My Fitness Pal. It's online and also in an iPhone app. I find that it almost always has the food I'm trying to log.

I love the fact that it has a data base of user added foods, which means that I almost always find what I'm looking for even if it's a UK only food. For me the key is using something that is QUICK, otherwise I give up. This program ticks all the boxes. |
When you use these things you don't need a bodybugg or fit bit do you?

Ok.. I d/ld just to see it.. Nice to try these things out as I might just get a fancy omron. If I track on etools, I may not need this

I an old fashioned and just use paper and pencil and I input my total calories for the day into the body bugg program!
Oh and I agree Pammi we need to see some before and after photos! I need some motivation and inspiration! |
I guess she forgot about us. :( :dunno:
|
Thanks...
...for this thread! I am a newbie here and have been checking out the various forums. I started counting calories with Sparks, which is okay, but My Daily Plate is much better and easier to use. Thanks to those who mentioned it.
|
I have 3 things about the same calorie count I choose from for breakfast and for lunch. That way I know I only have to think about the calorie limit of my supper. It makes it much easier, reducing stress. That helps me stay on track.
|
I've tried various programs but I really just prefer a pen, paper and a calculator.
|
I must say, I really am enjoying Lose It! One question I do have though, is if once a food is in your My Foods, if you can delete it? At Christmastime, I added a rum ball to my foods, but needless to say, I won't be eating them all year long. Is there a way to delete it? Thanks

I'm using the Android App "Calorie Counter" by FatSecret that I just found out has a corresponding website.
What I love about it is that you can scan the barcode on items and find the food that way. I've been using it for about a week and a half and I've only not found 2 foods. The you can also email yourself a report of what you ate for the day. |
I use LoseIt too, love it! Are you using the app for iPhone/iPod? To delete something from My Foods, just go to My Foods and swipe across the name of the food. A delete button will pop up.
|
I was going to use this and then I friended it on my facebook and can't get it off.
does anyone know how to unfriend a *like?* |
I'm using Lose It! on my new Ipod Touch. I really like this app, and it's what made me reallllyy want to get an ipod touch again after getting rid of my last one. The other apps I've tried on my android phone just aren't as good! I really like the layout of everything on this app, and it's just fun for me to use!
