Don't you hate it when someone tells you not to do something you want to do? I'm banned from running for at least a month until my runner's knee is rehabbed and I am pissy about it. Dr said to walk briskly - hello, smack me in the head with boredom! So I went out this morning at 5:30am, when it was a delightful 78 degrees, and walked three miles. I tried race walking, or a variation thereof, and I think that may just be the challenge I need - it's far harder for me to walk fast than to run slowly, and if it's done right (aka, not how I was doing it this morning!) it's technical enough to hold my interest. I'm going to do a bit of research on technique and see if I can get good at it. But I still want to run - I had to make sure I wore my weight training bra and not my running bra so I wasn't tempted to run! Oy.

On a happier note, now that the dr has told me I have to really be strict and just work at this weight loss thing, I'm feeling very Type A (I am unbelievably Type A so this is not a bad thing!) and making all sorts of lists, charts, plans etc - it's SO me. I actually had to add raw cashews to my salad last night as I was under my 1,500 calories and I refuse to undereat when I know there's a good reason to stick with my calorie target! Plus I love nuts. I've started tracking everything on LoseIt! again - I definitely need to do that so I don't inadvertantly forget something and think I can eat more than I can.

Oh, and someone (I forgot who - sorry, mind like a sieve!) mentioned BMI... I have to shed 7lbs to be "overweight" so that's going to come if I hit my challenge goal. Yay. I use http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ to calculate mine, but I know there must be sites where it'll tell you for your height, this is the weight you need to be to be "normal", "overweight" etc.

Edited to add - I feel for everyone who's suffering in the unusual heat. Here, it's normal right now - around 106, with an overnight low (I use that term loosely) of around 83. But those of you in places like Oregon who are having stupidly high temperatures - my sympathies! At least it's a dry heat here... around 6% humidity today! I can't do humid. At all.

JD - on our honeymoon cruise, we went to the location where Predator was filmed. Some of the movie props are still there, like a wrecked helicoptor. My husband was enthralled! It was in Puerto Vallarta, if you ever want to go visit it... :)

And one more thing - the dr suggested in the summer months (May - October here) I try to drink a gallon of water or water-based liquids a day - and sadly diet coke doesn't count. But things like green tea and even coffee do. So I Googled to find out how many ounces a gallon is - it's 128. That's a lot. But then I got to thinking - my morning coffee is 12oz of decaf. My green tea at work is 12oz, also decaf. I have one bottle during my workout - that's 24oz. I have at least three bottles during the work day, though usually it's four - the AC is so drying. So now we're at... let me do the math (I'm an accountant, I can't do mental math at ALL)... 120oz if I only have three bottles at work. So clearly my mental block on a gallon is just that - mental! So one of my goals for this challenge is now going to be a gallon of water per day. And lots of bathroom visits... ;)

Well, I have stayed on plan with my calories, but not so sure about my walking. I have been getting in alot more walking at work than normal, and my Mom was sick in the hospital so I got alot of walking in there, so I may have, but just not timing it the way I would like.

Sounds like everyone is going strong, with there own challenges. I'll try to check in a little more often now that Mom is home.

Jules, I know what you mean about the water. It sounds like alot, but when you add everything up it isn't as much as you might think. I need to start drinking green tea again. I think it really helps. My biggest problem is that I have to drink green tea a short while after I eat or it makes me feel nausiated (sp.?). I don't have no problem with my water at work, but I have a hard time making sure I drink enough at home, I know most people are the opposite, go figure I always was a little backward :dizzy:.

Snapped this pic on the trail just before I started:

Not the most flattering pic face-wise, and I have NO idea what's going on with my bangs--but my girls look spectacular which is a very rare thing for me! :D

Well, it is still a little crazy around here, but has settled some. Hubby gave me a puppy for our anniversary (actually a few days before). I have waited to post about her because I wanted her to see an english speaking vet to make sure she is healthy and would be staying with us before I told everybody. She got a clean bill of health on Wed. I know that is completely unrelated to weight loss, so I hope y'all don't mind.

I have been having trouble staying on track this week. I am hoping to get my mindset straight. So far, so good today.
I am still sharing a computer with the family, so forgive me for not keeping up. I don't have trouble getting time on the computer, but the chair makes my back hurt if I sit in it for very long. I miss my laptop. Hopefully I can get it sent off to be repaired soon.

Well, somehow I managed to gain 1 lb. I have no clue why, but I ate 1/2 cup of light ice cream yesterday, which is 1 serving. Of course it is processed, and my body hates processed foods. I can't even eat a little of anything processed, it just packs on the water. That has to be it, thankfully my husband ate it all last night, so I don't have any in the house. My daughter wanted me to get it for her, and of course I couldn't say no to her. I'm running to the bathroom every 2 hrs. today, so the weight should be gone by tomorrow. I had 1230 cal. today, I should see a loss soon!

CC Labor Day Challenge

Ok, just came back to the site after yo-yo weight loss and gain for the last year. My goal for Labor day is to lose 10 lbs. If I lose more yay me, but I need to set a reasonable goal.

At 194 right now, want to be at 180-184 by Labor Day. I would also like the wii board to stop saying oooohhh when I get on. :carrot:

m3rma1d 07-08-2010 09:44 PM

Hi Lolla! Kick that Wii's azz! :D

Late joining but let's do it up!!

Hey girls, I know I'm a late bloomer but here's my goal for labor day:
Current: 308 (I think, the great Satan must be checked )
Goal for Labor day: 285 (23 ibs) I haven't seen the Great Satan since March, so it may be more and may be less, let you know when I find out.
Best wishes to everyone!

Just had a great salad with shrimp - I rarely eat it cold, but I made a big veggie pile and needed protein. So good.

Wilma - I don't care for green tea alone, but you can buy green tea with lemon which I find much more palatable. I've also found the best green tea mix at Fresh & Easy (if you have one nearby) - it's green tea with honey, lemon, and ginseng. It's tangy and spicy and really tasty - I'll have a couple of cups a day (it's decaf so essentially it's just hot flavored water).

CorrineIrene - I love your avatar! <3 Patrick Bateman <3

Workout out tonight, so doing pretty good - but I feel I can up the intensity and duration now, so i will tomorrow.

Mommy in Motion 07-09-2010 09:19 AM

Just a quick check in!

This mornings weigh in went well, 140.8 lbs. I am down 1.8lbs from last week, and 4.2 lbs overall. It's pretty motivating to see the scale finally moving in the opposite direction!
