Default Calorie Counting on the Go?

Ok... so... I'm wanting to do calorie counting this summer (and throughout the continuing year until I reach my goal of 140 lbs). The thing is... this summer... I'm like... really busy. I'm going to be traveling a TON this summer, both nationally and internationally.

So... I won't have internet access half of the time, and I'd rather not carry around a book with all of the calorie information, and a lot of the places where we'll be eating won't have that info... so... what do y'all recommend?

Honestly? I'd suck it up and carry a calorie book. Personally -- I can use calorieking.com on my phone, but you said you won't have internet access.

you gotta loose some to gain some! just take the calorie book and be careful what you order and be specific to the waiters and tell them how you want the chef to make it.... if its fast food.. then just get two apples from somewhere and eat them!!!

I, too, would say carry the book if there's no nutrition info on whatever your eating. Or if you have a good memory then try to memorize some of the major things that you eat (Like meat, or fruit, veggies, any time of packaged snack, etc) so that you wouldn't have to carry the book. It may just feel weird or awkward whipping out the book but I mean I think it's the best option that I can think of to suggest at the moment.
Good luck!

It's not the price of the book... wish it was. Sometimes it's just kind of annoying to always carry something around like that... hopefully I'll find a smaller paperback... and I'm sure there are plenty of them.

I will be carrying around a notebook of mine... it's like... a notebook I decorated with my favorite things (my dog, horses, white roses, ferns, etc). So it's something I'd WANT to get out and write in. So yeah...

Thanks... I guess I'll just have to suck it up and deal with carrying an extra bit of something in my bag.

I WISH I had a phone... with or without internet access... but I won't be getting one until the fall... So yeah... I wish that was an option as well... but... nope. Oh well... I'll just have to find a bag with enough compartments for a book, notebook, and pen/pencils. With travel... shouldn't be TOO hard. I just would rather pack light... Oh well... I'll find a good book. If you guys can recommend one... that'd be AWESOME.

I use my ipod to keep track of my calories too. Some of the apps even
sync up to your computer.

I have a Zune 80GB. No iPod... and I'm not planning on getting one anytime soon... i just don't like the setup of them. And iTunes messes up my computer (stupid vista... ).

I'll just suck it up and run by Half Price Books or Barnes and Noble and get something.

I say start your own calorie list and place it in your notebook. You could start now by writing down the foods you eat the most. Also think of where you will be traveling. For example if your going to Italy. Look up some types of food you might choose. Then write down the info and put in your notebook. I would use the book as a back up. Maybe keep it in the suitcase, but carry just your notebook through the day wiht your own list of foods.
