Need assistance please

  • Hello to all,

I originally got down to my maintenance weight of 140 then with a holiday and the various other social events over the course of a couple of months i have gained around 10 pounds.
I was losing quite steadily on 1500kcal per day then i decided to join a gym to tone up and generally get more exercise into my day and i have been unable to lose any weight on 1500kcal per day.....i have even gained a bit.
Does anyone know why this is? Am i eating enough calories? I tend to do mostly cardio at the gym for around 1 hour, 4 times per week. And the majority of my foods are clean and made from scratch.

I have about 10 pounds to lose to get back to my maintenance weight.

    Thanks
  • It is time to take out the tape measure! You are likely putting on some muscle that gains more than fat. The scale really isn't a good indicator of success when we are working out frequently. BMI certainly isn't since it is based on a weight/height calculations. Your measurements or body fat percentage is really a better indicator of success.

Have you noticed your clothes fitting better?
  • It's not unusual to retain water when you start an exercise program - if you are having any muscle soreness, that's a sure sign you have some excess water weight. Try to drink lots of water and just give it some time. You are making your body stronger and healthier and the scale will catch up soon!

Yes, i had thought that maybe i am gaining muscle and i can definately see a little more definition in my arms. Clothes are tighter though
Think you are right about the scales....i let them dictate to me too much.
Will continue with the calorie intake for now and see how it goes for the next couple of weeks.
    Thanks for your input.

Hey, i think you definately have something there....i have noticed that my tummy is much more bloated and squishy than normal and its not my TOM or ovulation so it cant be that. Never knew that your body can retain water when you start exercising. Thanks for your help, i will bear that in mind and keep up what i am currently doing.
