I use lemon juice in mine and I leave the pit in the bowl and it still turns brown - sometimes. And sometimes it doesn't. No rhyme. No reason.

Sorry, this is probably totally off topic, but I would like to know why avocados are so darn expensive! I mean, if you ask for them on a subway or something, they are even audacious enough to charge you extra! Why?????

Never heard of putting mayo in before, sounds gross to me. My mom adds lemon juice. Personally, i've found it only browns on top and it isn't actually bad as soon as it browns, i just stir it up and it tastes fine.

Yes, it really does taste fine. Just not so attractive.

As far as the expense. They are only grown in certain climates and therefore that they're not so plentiful like other fruits and veggies. Hikes up the price. Just makes them that much more exotic - and enjoyable.

I grew up watching my parents eat sandwiches made from smashed avocado and mayo. I didn't know you weren't supposed to put mayo with avocado until I started watching the Food Network.

If you follow the Prevention Flat Belly Diet, they recommend that you eat a serving of avocado everyday as part of their list of foods that shrink the tummy. Sounds good to me!

It sure does! That's what I use ... lemons. You can also leave the whole avacado pit in with the guac, and that preserves it as well. I do BOTH and my guac stays green

Last summer--when I first began--I had almost zero clue what I was doing when it came to weight loss. I was eating lots of frozen meals. I knew very little about the flat-belly diet but knew it incorporated small amounts of avacado, dark chocolate, raw almonds and black olives. I started using these things as snacks. I read satiating yourself with these things could help you stay full and craving free.

I have to say it worked. When I was eating just my frozen meals with normal low-cal snacks during the day, I was ready to chew my arm off! When I switched snacks, it greatly helped. As long as you in daily calorie allotment, you should be doing yourself a favor.

I eat around 3 oz a day when I have it, in fajitas, on salad, on sandwiches, etc.
