I think we will make a great little group. 5 sounds like a good size to always have someone around.

Alright guys, let's figure something out! What is the best way to kick each other's butts? I think at the very least a daily thread. We can always do messaging and other stuff too. First, post a little about yourself here. I already PMed dietcokehead before, but this way we will know who we are "talking" to.

I am Teresa. I am 29 and have 3 kids. My oldest daughter is 4 and i have boy/girl twins who are 15 months. I am a nursing student and weigh way too much!! I have been using a calorie counting app on my iPhone to help me. It gave me 1600 calories. I bumped it up a little, so I have somewhere to go down to if I plateau. Also it said it assumes a sedentary lifestyle and gives back exercise calories. I work out several times a week, and I dont' eat back the calories, so I gave myself 1700. Sounds like a good jumping off point.

Can't wait to get to know you all!!

dietcokehead98 06-18-2009 04:47 PM

Thanks, Teresa. I was wondering where you were!!!

The best way to kick butt I think is accountability. We do it here anyway with the "what are you eating today" thread, but it would be nice to use this thread to just check in with one another to see how we're doing, like telling Amy (me) to NOT EAT THAT CHEESEBURGER when my cravings overwhelm me! :)

I'm Amy. I'm 35 and have one kiddo. She's 6 going on 16. I work in land conservation in deep South Texas. If anyone saw Hurricaine Dolly on tv last year, that's where I am! I use Lose It! on my iPhone as well. I logged that I want to lose 2lbs a week for my 180 goal and it has me eating 1485 calories. I exercise 7 days a week, sometimes I DO eat back those calories, which is why I've probably only lost 3lbs in 2 weeks. I'm frustrated.

lucky8 06-18-2009 04:47 PM

hey .............im lucky and im 24 from the north east england work as a nursing assistant.
So glad this lil group was put 2gether it should be fun. I live with boyfriend who is my rock and is always supportive to my weightloss plans .....it helps that hes a bit of a gym freak .......but i dont always have the motivation he does . Threrfore a lil bit of female support on here would be great. Men can lose it so much better than woman its so unfair :( and we can moan and cheer together lol
I also have a lil yorkshire terrior MIlo. My 1st goal is 184lb doing it in smaller parts want my 1st goal by october which it my 25th and hopefully half of my goal off by aug 4 my girly trip 2 blackpool.xxxx

dietcokehead98 06-18-2009 04:50 PM

seriously, why DO men lose faster? Metabolism, blah blah...but it infuriates me! My husband looks like he's pregnant, but all he has to do is not drink a soda a day for a few weeks and he looks just fine. I hate that.
Hi Lucky :)

lucky8 06-18-2009 04:56 PM

hiya ;) ............well my bf is a bottomless pit he can eat and eat and eat.........**** put on then lose. hes lost 9lbs in 4 days by just eating healthy itll take me bout 3/4 weeks to lose that lol
He does weight training so that prob burns some cals but i rekon men do lose it faster.
Nice to meet ya all to .........i done my 1st exercise in a while 2nite on my bike and was tougher than expected but did it just getting back in the swing of things......i usually swim........but feel so much better 4 it :carrot:

teresab 06-18-2009 10:15 PM

Hey!! Glad to see you guys here! My hubby is in complete denial. He used to be able to eat constantly and not gain an ounce. Now he could probably lose 40-50lbs but his solution is still eat crap, but skip lunch. I tell him that won't work, he won't listen. He always loses some weight in the summer because his job is physical and becomes moreso in the summer.

I have a yorkie too!! He is big for a yorkie-- probably about 13lbs, but super patient with the kids grabbing him and chasing him. He lets them because they are his main source of people food.

I stayed within my calories! In fact, I still have a whole 7 left. :D I didn't work out today. Tomorrow I will go in the AM and then at night I work waiting tables at the Olive Garden. It is SOOOOO hard sometimes there cuz the breadsticks are just... there. So easy to pick one up and eat it. Or we throw away the broken ones. But as it turns out, if one breadstick is 150 calories, then half of that breadstick is 75 calories, and if I grab a half 4 times..... 300 calories that I barely taste and surely don't need!!!! Damn you, simple math!!

lucky8 06-19-2009 09:48 AM

heya .........well im not calorie counting im doing 3 square meals a day (healty) and its working :) im not very good with the calorie and point counting stuff.........i get board easy.lol
So im keeping it down to cereals or eggs for breakfast ........pasta or rice for dinner them somthing like chicken and steamed veg for tea.
I like to add alot of flavor 2 my food to i used alot of garlic and chilli powder so it keeps things interesting. i also have a treat a day like an ice lolly or icecream :)
As for ya bread sticks ever tried crisp read or cracker bread..........theyr really nice and not as bland as bread sticks. Thats what i usually snack on x

dietcokehead98 06-19-2009 10:09 AM

Morning!!!!
No cheeseburger for me last night. I had chinese bbq pork chops, 1/2 a cup of mashed potatoes and 1/2 a cup of corn. It was good.
I also did the ab portion of 30 day shred, and my tummy hurts today!!!!

Pas de Chaton 06-19-2009 10:24 AM

dietcokehead: Yay for you on the "no cheeseburger"! And for doing the abs. I have the Crunchless Abs dvd but it's too much for me right now. Honestly, I can't even get into some of the positions they do, so I'm going to wait until I'm around 180 before I really start it. In the meantime I've done abs on My Fitness Coach but it's not very challenging. I guess I need something in between!

I am a stay at home mom in Georgia. I have a 4-1/2 year old boy and a 7-month old girl. We homeschool. My husband is currently on a temporary work reassignment in another state (about 12 hours away) and he will be there until it becomes permanent, probably December or January. So that means I'm sort of a single mom for the rest of the year. In a way it's good, because whenever we're apart for a long duration (he travels a lot anyway), we both tend to lose weight. So we should both be down to our goal weights by the time we move permanently.

So far this week I'm doing okay with my eating. I have set a goal for 1400-1500 calories per day and I've gone a little over 1500 a couple times. And I've met all my exercise goals for the week so far, but I just feel like I've stalled. Of course, I won't know until Monday when I weigh in. :)

Thanks for starting this thread! I look forward to chatting with everyone and keeping each other on track.

teresab 06-19-2009 11:45 AM

Morning ladies!!!! I have started my day well. I have had coffee and gone to work out. I did 15 minutes on the treadmill, steep incline, 2.8 mph. Not too fast, but worked up a sweat. Then I did weight machines for 30 minutes and got on the elliptical for 16 minutes. I feel good. Fridays and Saturdays are rough for me because I work at 5pm and don't get off until 11, so I feel like I have to get all my calories in before work without just eating garbage.

dietcokehead98 06-19-2009 12:19 PM

You go, Theresa! Are your legs sore? It's the incline that kills me.
Pas, you're almost to "Onederland"! Congrats! How long have you been on this plan? I'm still frustrated about only losing 3lbs in 11 days. I seriously thought it would be more....

I'll let you know about the legs tomorrow.... :p I know I have to do the incline, cuz I want to change up my routine from just the elliptical, but don't do running. I would love to love running, but my knee is all messed up adn hurts when I do. Maybe I can work my way up to and train my knee to love it too.

Pas de Chaton 06-19-2009 12:58 PM

dietcoke: I started in the middle of May, then got a little discouraged at the end of the month, then I renewed my commitment on June 1st. So I guess it's been a month.

Teresa: Those are some tough hours to work! Congrats on sticking to your exercise commitment even on the rough days!

dietcokehead98 06-19-2009 01:38 PM

So, in addition to my salad for lunch, I ate something I shouldn't have! Now I have to re-adjust my intake (i.e., no snacking!) It so wasn't worth it. Darnit.

Spill! What was it? I will admit, I am eating some cheetos. I will work it into my calories.

Here's my day:
Breakfast: coffee, fruit cup (70 calories)
Lunch: serving of tortellini with meatballs (550 calories)
Snack: Cheetos (200 calories)

I haven't decided on dinner tonight. Maybe a chicken sandwich.

I also did the gym earlier and had about 40oz of water while I was there.

dietcokehead98 06-19-2009 02:06 PM

Ummm... Bad Amy!
B: lean cuisine breakfast panini-270
L: JITB Southwest Chicken Salad (grilled) 330 +...wait for it...Taco Nachos. I know, I know. 320 calories. OMG, a 650 lunch.
D: small lean beef patty on an english muffin and a salad. No snacking for Amy tonight.

Do you eat at work?

teresab 06-19-2009 02:25 PM

I try not to eat at work too much. Like i said, the breadsticks are tempting.

If I do tonight I will have Apricot chicken. Dinner portion is 380 calories and lunch portion is 280.

Pas de Chaton 06-20-2009 08:28 AM

Well, My Fitness Coach wants to do a fitness test this morning, which means I had to weigh in today instead of Monday. I'm pleased that I'm down 3.8 pounds, so I'm now below 200. I'm not as thrilled as I thought I would be, though. Maybe it's too early in the morning. Or maybe my 7-month-old's crabbiness this morning is rubbing off on me. :(

Anyway, MFC fitness tests are grueling, at least so far. 2 full minutes of jumping jacks so you can check your heart rate (plus a bunch of other stuff, but the other stuff isn't that bad). Two minutes doesn't sound like a lot, but it is. Then afterward, I have my most difficult workout of the week, a full 30 minutes of cardio. I love MFC, it's really kicking my bootie. It's tough, but so worth it.

Under 200!!!! I haven't seen that since the year I was married!!!! 2003!! I am jealous and happy for you! I should try that fitness coach thing. I have read about the more indepth fat % tests. I am a little afraid to do one. I have a feeling that under all my extra weight is a very small frame. I was a TINY kid (until I was 9, I have never been a thin adult) and my wrists and ankles are the smallest parts of my body. I was so upset when they got huge while i was preggers cuz they have always been the only skinny part of my body. :dizzy:

I did OK yesterday. Stayed in my calories, yay. Did not eat a single breadstick at work. Tonight I have work again. Those breadsticks will have no power over me!!

I will not get a workout in today. Too many errands to run before I leave for work at 3:30. What is everyone else's plan for the day?

Pas de Chaton 06-20-2009 10:26 AM

Teresa: I know what you mean about the ankles and wrists! My ankles got slightly larger when I was pregnant, but only for a brief time. If you look at the bottom half of my arms, you would almost think I was underweight! (Not so with my legs, though, because my calfs are pretty big still.)

Thanks for the congrats, it helps. I was under 200 last year, down to 162, before I got pregnant. That was in February 2008. This time, since I'm exercising as well as dieting, I think I will see results faster. :)

The My Fitness Coach is for the Wii. I like it a lot. It's actually better (in my opinion) than regular exercise dvd's because it's different every time. I love Tae Bo, but everytime I do it, it's exactly the same thing so it can get boring; that's why I do it only once a week. But with MFC (and others like it), there is a huge variety and it keeps your interest.

Do you work at a restaurant? I only ask because of the breadsticks. If it's Olive Garden, forget about it! I could eat their breadsticks all day long! And I love the salad. Luckily, even though I like pasta, I'm not a huge fan of eating it in restaurants so it's not one of my downfalls. Good luck today!

dietcokehead98 06-22-2009 10:14 AM

Oy, I'm sick! I didn't work out yesterday or Saturday. I was in a Tylenol cold coma all day Saturday....
I had a SLIVER of german chocolate cake at my stepdads birthday party, and a tablespoon of ice cream. I guess it's good that I'm sick, since i dont feel like eating!
I'm going to try to do the treadmill tonight, but not so aggressively. I don't want to lose the 5lbs I've FINALLY lost!!! How is everyone doing?

DMNewman 06-22-2009 10:18 AM

Hi I know I'm not a part of the group but I was wondering if I can join? I need someone to kick my butt, PLEASE!? lol

dietcokehead98 06-22-2009 10:36 AM

Come Dawn...let us kick you in the butt! :)
10lbs lost...good for you! how long has it taken you?

DMNewman 06-22-2009 10:47 AM

YAY!!!

Well back in Jan I started calorie counting and lost 30 pounds BUT I gained most of it back :( I went on vacation with my in laws and ate out for breakfast, lunch and dinner and that killed me ugh.

A little about myself.
I'm Dawn, 28 years old and mother of 4 kids. My oldest daughter is 10 and my youngest is almost 3. I'm a stay at home mom but for the summer I have my friend's 3 children, they are older, 12 and 13 so its not much babysitting but they are still here which adds more chaos lol

My husband and I joined the gym last month and we go at least 3 times a week to do 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the bike. He WAS a personal trainer YEARS ago and we both let ourselves go after having kids. I really want him to teach me how to do weight training so we'll hopefully tackle that soon. He really helps me out with the weight loss, exercise and support.

Like I said, I have 4 children so its hard for me to rearrange every meal to benefit me so I eat what the kids eat in SMALL portions which really sucks. I'm going to try chicken breast and squash packets on the grill tonight and I know they are still going to be starving afterwards *sigh*

That about sums everything up. Thanks for letting me join.

teresab 06-22-2009 12:38 PM

Morning! Closer to afternoon really, but the twins don't allow me time on teh lap top until they are napping. They feel my attention should only be on them at all times. If not, there is crying involved.

I already got my workout in for the day! I love to workout in the mornign before I can talk myself out of it or convince myself i don't have time. I did 17 minutes on the treadmill at a steep incline, 25 minutes weight machines, and 20 minutes on elliptical.

I am feeling discouraged. I have not lost one pound in the last 3 weeks. I have been on plan and working out. I am not happy.

teresab 06-22-2009 09:33 PM

Welcome DM!!

How is everyone's day? Mine has gone well. I am still 140 calories under my "allowance" but I don't think I will be eating them. I have a migraine and the pain is going away, but I am feeling nauseous. Ew.

I had a salad for lunch with 9 croutons, chicken, and exactly 2 TBLS of dressing. For dinner I had some meatballs and asparagus. I had some fruit snacks and a banana with peanut butter for a snack. I measured out my PB so I would only have one TBLS. Man, have I grossly overestimated the TBLS! When I would have PB before I would think I was probably using a TBLS and a half, but now I know it was probably closer to 3! So that's 300 calories!

Everyone check in and let me know how you did today!

DMNewman 06-23-2009 08:22 AM

Good morning Teresa! I try to measure everything NOW because I always guessed and was no where close to what I thought it was lol

I did good yesterday but I didn't make it to the gym :( I had 1243 calories for the day and according to sparkpeople I need to stay between 1200-1550.
If y'all are on sparkpeople, do you try to stay near the low end of your calories or do you shoot for the high end?

Any good meal ideas for me? I have A LOT of boneless, skinless chicken tenders and breasts. I have hamburger patties too lol I'm so tired of chicken packs on the grill with veggies tossed in. Don't get me wrong, its delicious but I want something else... that can be done on the grill :)

I need to plan out my dinner but this is what I got so far.

Breakfast: coffee with 3 tsp creamer and 2 tsp sugar (65 cal)

Lunch: 3 slices fit & active smoked ham on white bread with green and red peppers, lettuce, 1 slice mozzarella cheese and 1 tbsp of mayo.

Snack:

Dinner:

Pas de Chaton 06-23-2009 09:45 AM

Hi Dawn!

Everyone is different, but I would definitely suggest that you have a more substantial breakfast. Think about it, your body hasn't eaten since dinner last night, you need to refuel long before lunch the next day. :)

As far as food ideas, I too eat a lot of boneless skinless chicken breast tenderloins. But I also eat a lot of fish, maybe 3-4 times per week. I do NOT normally like fish, but I eat tilapia which is very mild. I spray the pan with Pam, add the fish with some Mrs. Dash and fresh ground pepper, and put it in the oven for about 12 minutes on 400 degrees. It's very mild tasting. Sometimes I throw in some whole sweet peppers (the little ones), those are sooooo good roasted. :)

Often I eat couscous. Salads are common here. And one of my favorite veggie ideas is to cut up a zucchini into half-moon slices and saute it in a non-stick pan, using Pam and a smidge of light butter. Use whatever spices sound good at the time (again, I usually use a variety of Mrs. Dash). Then at the end, grate some parmesan cheese on the top. Yummy!

DMNewman 06-23-2009 10:12 AM

Breakfast is so hard for me, I don't like breakfast foods AT.ALL! I don't eat eggs, bacon, turkey bacon, cereal, oatmeal, fruits, really no breakfast foods *sigh* I tried choking down a banana with my coffee but like I said, I don't like fruits so it did more harm then good. Any ideas? lol

Right now its 10:12am and I'm starting to get hungry so I'll try to hold off until at least 11:00am to eat my lunch.

Pas de Chaton 06-23-2009 10:28 AM

You don't like any fruits? That's going to be tough for your overall weight-loss journey, not just breakfast. :) Maybe you can put some berries in a blender with some yogurt and ice cubes to make a smoothie. Bananas are great for this too. If you like toast, get some whole wheat or whole grain bread (I use 40-calorie bread) with a teaspoon of butter, or even some fruit topping like preserves.

I like those Sun-Dried brand prunes, the ones that are individually wrapped. They're very sweet and they're small enough that even if they're not your favorite you could eat two quickly enough and there's an entire fruit serving. :)

DMNewman 06-23-2009 10:48 AM

Yeah, I don't like fruits but I LOVE veggies. I usually snack on green/red peppers, carrots, lettuce, squash, broccoli, cauliflower etc but no fruits :( I know that's so weird but what can I do? I mean, I REALLY don't like fruit.

Maybe I can just snack on some veggies in the morning?

teresab 06-23-2009 02:44 PM

Hello buds!!

Today is going well for me! I had coffee this morning, I really have to figure out what to have for a more substantial breakfast. Maybe some yogurt. I went to the gym. I did weights yesterday, so today I did the elliptical for 15 minutes (I do the interval pattern. On the easy interval I go fast and then more leisurely on the harder interval to keep my heart rate up the whole time. Then I did 30 minutes on the treadmill on a steep incline for the first 20. Then lower, but I acutally ran twice for 2 minutes each time. I hope to try to keep that up, hoping my knee does not complain too much. I had a big salad for lunch. I am still full.

Dinner will be hard for me tonight. My hubby is taking the kids to his mom's house so I can get some stuff done around the house. I have to fight the urge not to eat junk food in front of the TV. FOOD IS NOT A TREAT!!! IT IS FUEL!!! I wish that would stick in my brain.

dietcokehead98 06-23-2009 03:29 PM

I'm having a horrible week at work and it's only Tuesday. Let me just say, I'm depressed.
I'm sticking to the plan though. In fact, I got a nice surprise when I stepped on the scale this morning and it said 216! I haven't exercised in 4 nights because of my cold. I'll get back on the treadmill (horse) tonight....
I ate 2 milky way minis today. I just needed CHOCOLATE and they were up at the receptionists desk. I think she's trying to sabatoge me :)

teresab 06-24-2009 08:59 AM

Up and at 'em, kids!! I am feeling good today! I am having my coffee while the twins eat breakfast in their highchairs. We will be heading to the gym when they are done. I didn't do weights yesterday, so today I will and then do some cardio.

dietcokehead98 06-24-2009 09:51 AM

I did my 30mins on the treadmill last night, even though I'm not 100%. It felt good....good morning, y'all!!!

Pas de Chaton 06-24-2009 10:33 AM

It's a good day so far, I've had one walk already and I'm about to do my workout. But tonight my mom is taking me out to dinner and I just don't know what to eat. We're going to O'Charleys. I looked at their menu online, and I think I might get the grilled shrimp with a side salad and broccoli (if they have it).

It was really an eye-opener to look at their nutritional information, and see the calorie and fat count of the things I used to order. Sheesh, no wonder I'm overweight! It's really no fun going out to dinner anymore. Some of those meals (and I'm sure it's the same with most restaurants) are the caloric equivalent of my entire day's calorie goal!

DMNewman 06-24-2009 10:44 AM

Good morning!
I just had my morning coffee and I really want another one but I'm trying to hold off lol I put a pot roast with mild peppers rings, garlic and onions in the crockpot for dinner. We'll eat it on a roll with mozzarella cheese melted on it. For one sandwich it will be a little over 400 calories... I used to be able to eat 2 or 3 of them :O I'll probably have broccoli with it instead of the usual, chips.

My husband and I are going to do the treadmill, bike and hes going to teach me some strength training tonight. Hopefully it goes ok :)

dietcokehead98 06-24-2009 11:18 AM

Pas-I do that too, especially with the Chili's menu. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the buffalo chicken salad-and it has over 1,000 calories in it! That floored me. I mean, it's SALAD!
You'll make the right choices, I know it.
Oh man, Dawn-what time is DINNER!!!! yum!

DMNewman 06-24-2009 11:44 AM

You can come on over, we'll have plenty lol You should try it, the house smells delicious and it is SO good. I cook it in the crockpot for 6-8 hours and it just falls apart to eat as a sandwich. We usually put the leftovers in a pita the next day for lunch. Yum!

Going out for dinner: I always try to plan when I'm going out for lunch/dinner that way I can eat veggies most of the day and save up enough calories for my dinner. I hate going out to eat and having to eat off of the healthy menu. I eat healthy all.of.the.time, once in a while isn't going to break me, right? I have started to order my meal and cut my chicken sandwich and fries in half... ask the waiter for a box and box half of it up right then and there. My husband either takes it for lunch the next day or my kids eat it.

teresab 06-24-2009 06:39 PM

Today at the gym, the scale read 225.5! I am not putting it in my ticker until Friday, which I am making my new weigh in day. That will be the weigh in day for a "Biggest Loser" contest I am doing with some friends. I really hope this is a "real" loss since I have been feeling so down about staying in the same place for a couple weeks now. It is way too early in my journey for a stall.

For breakfast I had a banana with some peanut butter and I had a turkey sandwich for lunch and some snack mix for a snack. Dinner will be soup and 1/2 sandwich.

I had a great workout. Mostly weights and 15 minutes elliptical and 20 on the treadmill.
